You should consider getting into Amateur Radio / Ham Radio, if you live in a hurricane zone. You can always monitor the weather radio. And then call for help, when needed. Plus, Florida has an awesome emergency, interstate radio system, for Ham Radio operators. You can live in Key Largo and talk to someone in Destin. When the power is out, or cell phones go down. Amateur radio still works!

I use alot of Milwaukee M12 tools so I figured I'd try it out found the battery adapter on amazon for 15 bucks had it in 2 days. I was able to run my unit for a whole day between 2 2ah batteries and 1 3ah battery. I have a 2 pack of generic M12 batteries coming for 65 bucks that are 9ah a piece I'm expecting somewhere around 7hrs run time on one battery. If the test goes well I'll share the info to your facebook group!!

I love your videos and I really appreciate you taking the time to test each of these batteries using a similar draw on them, so the comparison was fair. However, you cannot look at JUST the amp-hour rating on a battery to determine how much power it has. You probably know this and didn't want to make the video super long or confusing, but in order for this type of test to make sense, you have to multiply the working voltage (18v for the cordless drill batteries and 12v for the others) by the amp-hour rating, to arrive at watt-hours. That's what really should have been measured for this test...the available watt-hours. For example: A 12v battery with 9 amp-hours has 108 watt-hours of capacity. A 12v battery with 5 amp-hours has 60 watt-hours of capacity, so your kayak battery had close to twice as much power as the Expert Power lithium. An 18v battery with 4 amp-hours has 72 watt-hours. The 8 AA batteries, (1.5v/ea) ran in series, have 12v at 2.4 amp-hours, or 28.8 watt-hours. I hate to tell you this, but you could calculate the watt-hours for each battery you tested, divide that by the watts consumed by your light strip, and get (roughly) the same results you saw by timing how long they powered the strip. Something else that is very important to understand is the batteries in your portable power blocks and 18v cordless drill packs are Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) while the Expert Power 12v battery is Lithium Iron-Phosphate (LiFePO4). The NMC batteries have a higher energy density (more watt-hours per pound) but they get less than 1/2 of the number of charge cycles as you'll get from LiFePO4 batteries. The Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) kayak battery will get even fewer cycles than the NMC batteries, especially if you draw it way down frequently, which doesn't hurt either lithium chemistry nearly as much. I know it would have made for a whole crap-ton of "Math", but until you calculate the available watt-hours and the number of charge cycles for a given battery chemistry, the cost to operate is still unknown. I strongly suspect your LiFePO4 battery was NOT fully charged when you tested it. If you checked the voltage beforehand, but not the actual state of charge, it could be very misleading, because this chemistry holds its voltage rating throughout roughly 80% of the charge/discharge curve. If you tested it and got 12.8v from your meter, it could be at 10% or 90% state of charge. Also, you cannot charge a "12v" LiFePO4 battery with a charger designed for any of the lead-acid battery chemistries. I mean, you can, but it will not fully charge the battery and it may well damage it, if left on too long. A SLA battery is really 6 cells at 2.25v/ea for a nominal voltage of 12.8 volts. A LiFePO4 battery is 4 cells at 3.65v/ea, for a nominal voltage of 14.6 volts. If you were trying to charge the Expert Power battery with a charger designed for SLA, it likely cut off VERY early in the charge cycle, leaving it way below fully charged. (The NMC batteries have an even higher 4.2v per cell and have their own charging requirements.) Sorry for writing too much, I just wanted to make sure everyone understands why you got some of the results you saw. I would also encourage you to charge the Expert Power battery with an appropriate charger and test it again. If you get the same results, after you know it was charged up fully, I would send it back for a refund, because it is NOT drawing full capacity.

I just switched over to a lithium battery Pack/Mount for my Ice Fishing Flasher (Marcum) last year. I can fish 4 hours a day for a week. Not sure how many mah is it but it sure is lighter! ;)

When you were using usb connectors it limited the voltage and amperage therefore it only allowed so many watts to be used which negates comparisons outside of using them. Those lithium battery packs come with over/under discharge protection circuitry so they’ll shut off when the voltage reaches a certain threshold when the cheaper battery you tested it against will continue to discharge until the LEDs no longer have the voltage to sustain visible light which will destroy the battery. That’s why they had extremely different results.

I have one of those little MightyMax batteries I run my fishfinder with. I can go all day, 6+ hours running the fishfinder continuously and it will still be 65-70% charged. I think I paid like $17 on Amazon for the thing. Tractor Supply has the same thing, different brand for like $20 bucks. Edit to add: You don't want to run them all the way down or way low. It isn't a deep cycle battery so if you do that a few times it will get to where it won't hold a charge as long & probably eventually won't charge at all.

I think you lithium ion battery might have some some issues, I run an Amped Outdoors lithium ion on my Garmin 73a and it lasts every bit as long as advertised. I'll admit that I payed a premium cost for it but it's lighter and will take a charge better than my old lead battery.

I think the drill battery would run it plenty long enough honestly. I always use the kayak battery but that's why I do these tests , it's too learn
