Honestly, I look forward to the transition music in these “Best Of” vids just as much as the content itself and the recommendations.
"Small sizes are a deal breaker" - Yup, that sums it up pretty nicely.

All monitors below are 2160p144 IPS, unless otherwise specified. 🟦 02:52 Best 27" 4K gaming monitors: The most balanced price and performance bracket for 4K monitors, as it'll allow you to afford a modern 4K panel with modern features like HDMI 2.1. 03:58 Gigabyte M28U: While slightly larger than 27", at 600-650 USD it has respectable response rate and ghosting performance, is not really HDR-spec and lacks some professional-level colour capability. 05:59 ASUS TUF Gaming VG28UQL1A: A better choice for the PlayStation 5 by way of more bandwidth. 06:30 LG 27GN950: Pricier than the M28U at $900, but will provide full coverage of DCI-P3. 🟦 06:55 Best 32" 4K gaming monitors: These panels are still in their infancy and performance may be lacking while costing more, so Tim has trouble recommending these fully. 07:30 MSI Optix MPG321UR-QD: Primary strength is colour, but is lacking in response time. At $1000 it is a steep tag. 09:10 Gigabyte M32U: Based on the performance of the Aorus FI32U, is fast but does have trouble with inverse ghosting trails, and doesn't cover colour gamut like ARGB as well. 🟦 10:27 Best standard-size 4K HDR gaming monitors: Proper HDR monitors are expensive! Anything that's less than about 1500 USD will not support true HDR even if the manufacturer claims so, beware! 11:33 ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQX: Capable of local brightness performance above 1500 nits while allowing for deep blacks. However, has a slow response time, no HDMI 2.1 support which limits its uses, and an eye-watering MSRP of 3000 USD. 🟦 14:06 Best large format 4K HDR gaming monitors: The better, and surprisingly more frugal option, is to actually get a 48-inch OLED television instead, provided your workspace is big enough. 15:39 LG C1 48" OLED: While it has a slightly slower refresh rate of 120Hz compared to the other offerings, the C1 makes it up in a very fast response time of less than 2 milliseconds. Burn-in can be an issue and the size means the pixel density is mediocre, making it very specific to media consumption. The CX OLED is a similar model, choose based on local cost and availability.

You can still play older games in 4k and they look amazing. Newer games also sometimes allow running the UI at native resolution and lower the resolution of the game. And lastly high resolution > high settings. I have an RX 580 and it works fine for a lot of games.

I have the 27GN950 and I'm only changing now once we get 38" ultrawide, true HDR, 5K2K, 144Hz+. So my guess is that I'll be waiting for a while. I had LG's 38" for a while, but it was prone to dead and stuck pixels :( so I gave it up.
thank you guys!
Just ordered the m28u, can't wait till it arrives!!
I’ve been waiting for a review of Samsung’s G70A. Thank you for The high quality content!
got the LG 27 950GP. Stunner
Just got the Gigabyte M32U on clearance the other day. It does look really good static, but I do notice that slower pixel response rate with blur trails. Makes faster paced games look low res or compressed. Think I might return it and see what comes out later this year.
Great video, really appreciate your hard work! You nailed the 32" point, do I absolutely need bigger screen ? No....actually yes, I do! Haha! I'm considering the M32U, I hope by the time R7000 is out we might see a new 32inch champion!
Nice video. Went from an Alienware AW2721D to an Asus PG27UQ. HDR and resolution are on another level, I dont miss the 240hz at all (always used the Alienware in 144hz mode anyways, as I hate losing color fidelity) as a casual warzone player at least. The only down side for the Asus its that it doesnt support VRR with AMD GPUs (got an RX6900XT XFX atm) so im hunting for a 3080TI right now. That and some random power up bugs that happens once a month
when i bought the x27 3years ago, i didn't expect it to be discontinued without replacement, and while it's only 98hz with hdr on it's still an acceptable compromise given the current selection, since i don't think oems will be focusing on 27inch going forward and 32inch is a minor negative for me. It was 1200usd at one point, and i don't mind the blooming either. If only the uqx had hdmi 2.1 or the ucg wasn't priced like it is...still waiting on smaller oleds or refreshes of the smaller hdr monitors
Thanks for the video. I have a question which I have been looking for for a long time now. Once I have seen a review about monitors when I was not interested in buying one. It mentioned that one of the technologies OLED or QLED or something else had a very noticeable smoother experience even at low FPS. He said, the reviewer, that you will feel that you have a good amount of a jump in FPS just by switching between the two monitors. Unfortunately I cannot remember or find that review anymore. I thought you might help with that from your wide experience in this field. Your help is much appreciated. What I'm looking for is that smooth readable and clear text while moving around while playing first person shooter because the walls and texts always get smudged while moving or rounding in a circle. Even with high frame rate support LED monitor.
You didn't mention the AORUS FO48U 48" 4K OLED... Love you guys!
I got my first 4k monitor today and I absolutely love it! The image detail imo definitely makes it worth it!

@@dorak_22 If you have a 3090, I'd definitely get a 4k monitor. I have a 6800 XT and I regularly get above 60fps all games I play in 4k. Even above 100 fps in many games. A 3090 will perform even better. So personally, I would get a 4k monitor if I were in your position.
I would Love to have that C1 48, but it just doesnt fit on my desk, plus I would probably cause burn in pretty quickly due to being a 3D modeller and thus static UI stuff.
Like the video, Tim. On ultrawides, are you aware that the X34S is now available along side the X34GS? The X34S differentiates from the X34GS in only one area - inclusion of a G-Sync module. I'd be interested in a comparison between the S and GS if you were able to source both. I actually did just receive an X34S to replace my X34P, and the upgrade is quite nice, though of course I'm keeping "HDR" disabled in Windows.
Having already got the PG27UQ 4k 144hz with proper HDR i have recently bought the Samsung G7 27" to try out. Loving the new 1440p monitor. Using no g sync or v sync not seeing any tearing at 240hz even if i'm getting only 90fps and using the fastest response time the image looks great on fast panning. The VA contrast and good enough HDR are superb. The local dimming makes any backlight bleed invisible and works great in SDR as well. The 3090 is a nice fit although cpu limits have to be thought about even on AAA games. I might not use my 4k monitor too much now. The image quality is very good and not as bad as i remember 1440p being in pixel density in games and i love the speed of the G7 and more fps.
Just bought a G7 32 in and love it. Can't beat the beautiful VA panel
I’ve been looking for this video.

Buy a used OLED that's been used as a TV, use it for 2 years or before burn in becomes an issue, sell it, upgrade to the next generation. Repeat until there are better options. Trust me, I've been doing this and it's totally worth it! These TVs are in high demand so they don't lose much value over time, maybe 100 bucks a year. Live now, don't overthink it until you're too old.

Another monitor review video comes out JUST in time for the holidays !!!!!! I swear Tim times these videos perfectly for when people really start looking for a new monitor. I can now say I'm armed with enough info ( or at least a reference video) to recommend what monitor people should buy . Thank you Tim!!!!!!!
Great video as always, but a bit confused with one part of the video. At 3:39 you displayed an image of the Gigabyte Aorus FV43U, but never further spoke nor mentioned about it. Is there a reason why? this is the one monitor I have been interested out of the full lineup and thought it was odd to have it in the video, but not be talked about. Interested to hear your thoughts, if you do however reply.

I bought it but returned it and got the C1 Oled instead. My thoughts: 1) reviews about QC are real, mine had 3 dead pixels and a bit of dirt in between the panels 2) there is an air gap between the front layer and the back panel, which u can see up close and it makes it feel a bit cheap and not worth the $1000 3) I tried the Eizo monitor test (the response time test) and oh the blur trails were sooo bad. 4) Brightness was good, build quality good, but honestly for $1000 it was not worth the compromises and the hassle of swapping it just to have other QC issues. The oled was $1200 on Best Buy so i got that and the protection plan (covers burn in) and am way happier. Just my personal experience
Tim?? You look great! 👍 Stay safe and stay well mate.
I am all for HDR, but any kind of blooming is a deal killer for me
Thanks for the comprehensive review. Monitors market is a jungle.
Hello, great reviews. Any chance you could review the 4K Samsung 28 G7 ? Thanks
Thank you! Based on your research, I think that I'm still going to wait some time before buying new 32-42" monitors to replace the current ones.
Very happy with my LG 27GN950-B especially since they provided a firmware update back in June which added a toggle DP Deep Sleep to the OSD settings and fixed the quirky grey mouse cursor when the panel was overclocked to 160Hz. Not interested in HDMI 2.1 as I don't own a console so DP 1.4 with DSC enabled paired with a RTX 3090 (and a certified 8k DP cable) is perfectly suitable.

@@dorak_22 - it's a personal choice but it does look better than 1440p. I had the money (and the requisite horsepower) so I pulled the trigger a year ago. I run with a Windows scaling of 150% but that's just for the desktop; games and other content is full 4K. My other machine was running a 165Hz G-Sync ASUS PG27VQ monitor (paired with SLI'ed 1080TI's) but the monitor died and I had to RMA it (6 months left on 3 year warranty). ASUS said they couldn't fix it and now they've issued a credit to my retailer so I intend to get the LG 27GL850-B/27GN850-B/27GP83B-B as a replacement
Great info
I have a question. Seeing as your testing methodology has improved over the last couple of years; More detailed testing of response times, uniformity, etc. Is there any chance you could retest some monitors that are still available on the market but which was tested using older, less detailed methods, so that it's easier to compare? If this is impossible due to time constraints or test samples having been sent off to other reviewers etc, then I totally understand that, I was just curious.

Ill go ahead and request the ASUS ROG Swift PG43UQ. It fits in well between the 32” options which for me are a smidge too small and the massive 48” options which are pushing the size limit for me. Thanks regardless. I love what you guys do!!
I want to upgrade my monitor (benq xr3501 2560x1080p) so i will wait for a good 30-34inch 4k 144hz for future proofing. I might run it less than 4k with my RTX 2080 but it will be totally worth it when i later upgrade to whatever GPU that comes in 1-2 years.
One thing to mention is that if you're expecting high pixel density from the C1 it's not the best due to the large size. 92PPI but it's sharp enough if you're sitting an adequate distance from it (assuming you're using it as a monitor), text clarity isn't great either but it's easy to get use to.
4K 120Hz/180Hz/240Hz 27 Inch OLED.... been waiting a long time for this.
What do you think about the "Acer XV322QK"? My choice stands between the above acer or the "Gigabyte M32U"

Not specific to this video, but hoping for some advice. For a gaming/productivity setup (1440p monitors) - which is better - 3 of the same 27" monitors (Dell 2127DGF) or a 32 (Gigabyte M32Q) with a 27" (Dell 2127DGF) on each side? Gaming, coding, Netflix, etc.
Have been enjoying my PG32UQX for a couple of months now :)
I have a M32U showing up today to replace my CRG9 And I am super excited.
Gonna get the M32U next week for my desktop and the LG C1 48 next month for my gaming/media TV
Are you planning to do a video about all rounds top pick Ultrawide? From budget 1080p to high end 4k high refresh rate?
In regards to the m28u, I’m on XB series x…..and am worried about those ghosting figures at the 60hz range. While I mostly play fps at 120 at 1080/1440…..I really am looking forward to the new RPG games coming soon, and my guess is they will be capped at 60. Should I be worried about this?
Weird question, but what was the video you were using during the LG C1 portion that had paint being poured out to show the color and contrast range?
Great video, as always, but It's a shame you jump from 32" to OLEDs (48") without touching on the 43".. I'm in the market for a 43", but it's hard to find reviews comparing the Gigabyte FV43U, the Predator CG43 something and the Asus XG43UQ (and others alike)... I picked up 2 x FV43U, one for me and one for the wife. We're both very happy with the panels both upgrading from 3x 27" 1440p IPS panels.. Both are without defect. My understanding is that the QC issues are supplier storage and handling related, with Newegg for some reason seeming to have handed out a lot of defective panels. If you think of getting one, don't use Newegg. We got ours from a UK supplier we've used over the years, and no issues. The real surprise has been the HDR1000, which I'm really liking... Hi Hardware Unboxed. Can you do a review on the Sceptre Curved 40" class QHD 2560 x 1440 (C408B-QWN168W) monitor.
Other question... so if I understand correctly the gigabyte 32u is not a bigger 28u? Given the scalper prices the 32u is the same price or cheaper than the 28u, would you still recommend the 28u?
Thanks HU!
Can't find the Gigabyte M28U anywhere. I am seeing the M32U though. Any ideas? Should I just buy the 32 model?
My Acer XB273k GP is an amazing monitor for me. While it doesn't have hdr or hdmi 2.1, that was not a deal breaker as I use DisplayPort with my PC at 120hz and games using the 120hz mode for the PS5 has to reduce the resolution often to close to 1080p to output over 60hz which I don't think is a good trade off.
Is the HDR for the ASUS TUF Gaming VG28UQL1A better than the gigabyte M28U? As far as I know the Asus is not out yet. I was also considering getting a 32" but now after watching this I may just go for a 28". I'm trying to buy off of Amazon as I have a credit there that I can apply towards the monitor. But currently the M28U isn't available on Amazon. I'm just looking for the best monitor to use with my PS5 and Series X.
I recently not received yet ordered a 27GP950. I know it is expensive but I expect that the new mini LED monitors will have an even higher price tag. LGs panel is not going to be in production before Q4 2022 and the rest just seems to have slow ips performance.
personally i think your wrong about vesa certified HDR 400.i absolutly love it. i use it like a shader more or less gives the game/characters much better realism when you learn how to set it.you can take away the over saturated color crayon look and makes textures much more lifelike.i always use it when avaliable 100% you can use it in tradition way as well but having a black equalizer this way really helps.(not for me though i hate oversaturated colors) i personally love it for what it is. it definitely is worth checking out.i think if you play around with it you'll find theres definitely a use for it.
Thoughts on the Eve Spectrum 4K 27” ?
I wonder which one of these is best for MacBook pro m1 max. 🤔
In my region the LG OLED CX is cheaper than the C1. Are there any differences between them?
Just wondering if you will be reviewing the AOC U34G3X? As of yet, there isn't a single english review on youtube
