LG 32GP850 Vs ODYSSEY G7 IPS Vs VA Panels LG Vs Samsung Monitor contrast analysis
IPS Vs VA LG Nano IPS Vs Samsung VA Panel Depth Analysis LG Nano IPS Vs Samsung 1000R Curve Panel 98% Vs 95% DCI-P3 Color Gamut
Hi Friends Welcome to Viktors Reality:
today I have a Vs video on the LG 32GP850 Vs Samsung Odyssey G7 32" Monitors. You can see the real contrast levels on both as the G7 VA panel easily shows more picture depth in the picture making the picture look 3dish and much more enjoyable for dark room Gaming. If you have Ambient lighting in your room the IPS display looks really good with its small brightness advantage and color saturation to shine thru any other lighting you may have on.
*On XBOX Series X/S for the LG set your settings to PCRGB for added Contrast/Vividness!
*On PS5 enable HDMI Full also for more contrast on any LG IPS monitor.

Meanwhile, I just got the LG and I'm trying to bring down the color saturation a little bit because it has that hyper real look. The thing about highly saturated color is it's like a sweet drink, it's not necessarily better, but the sweetness will make you think it's better in a direct comparison.

Thank you for this video! I'm in the market for a 4K 32" monitor and had just about decided on an IPS monitor due to it's cheaper price. I currently have 27" 1440p VA panel and I love the contrast both in games and watching videos and movies. I had no idea IPS was this bad in that aspect compared to VA. So I'll keep looking until I find a reasonably VA panel monitor. I don't think I want to go for OLED and risk burn-in

Good review, but I would like to compare it with the VA matrix from LG. It's very surprising that I don't see 32-inch monitors on the VA matrix on sale, although I own one myself. I would like to see updated versions of VA monitors from LG. And what is also disappointing is the absence of a G7 without curved screen.

Its a shame that manufacturers apart from Samsung are not innovating in LCD VA and instead going down the LCD IPS route. No image retention, no burn in, no black smearing, high contrast ratio, 2k 240hz. I think AU Optronics provide the panels and are going to discontinue them. The issue is that Samsung only have them curved and high angled which gamers dislike.

Sure black better but black trailing around objects is god awful ! Maybe its good if you dont play fAST paced games much something slower also it has lower response time compared LG or any other IPS. Ultra fast IPS might have overshoot and bit inverse ghosting but not as bad as on Samsung im glad i went with IPS. Im more settled in towards backlight glow and VA panels have still bleed but its not as noticeable sometimes 😑🙂 also some are HDR and its +- same better nits than on this...

  • @MissMan666
    @MissMan666 Жыл бұрын

The IPS is alot faster from 3:30 to 4:00, play the video, pause a few times and notice that the IPS is crisper, where on the VA there is more ghosting due to slower respons times. They both have cons and pro, but as a pure gaming monitor id pick IPS over the new VA's. The new IPS from LG with ATW has reduced the glow alot, it's the new GQ series. Also the curve on the Odyssey fckn sucks. Contrast ratio tho, here the VA wins every time but respons times are overall better on IPS still. Power usage, not sure, but from past VA panels, the VA tends to burn much more power.

I'm thinking about changing my 24-inch VA 1080P monitor for a 1440P but I see that the ips in black is very bad. I already had an OLED (MSI MPG271QRX) which for the price to pay I don't think this technology is worth it as much as it has pure black and the colors are a little more vivid but nothing out of this world either. I have been evaluating the Samsung Odissey G6, the AOC Q27G3XMN miniled with 360 dimming zones and 2 coming soon to the market such as the msi mpg272qpx ips miniled with more than 1000 dimming zones and a Xiaomi one with the same characteristics, what do you recommend I do? Should I wait for these 2 miniled ips models or go for one of the 2 va's already available? Thanks in advance.

Beleive me, you'll get used very quickly to a curved screen. In fact, i just switched from a curved Gigabyte VA to the LG 32GP850B without curve and now the screen looks outward curved to me, just not right. Also only get a VA if you can live with the severe black smearing and ghosting. imho VAs are best for viewing still images and reading, but only the higher end ones like the Samsung G7 are good enough for gaming. The high VA contrast is always pretty nice though. Only higher end OLED panels give you the best of both worlds, but usually for double the price.

  • @ViktorsReality

The m28u transition is slow. Local dimming is slow. I have a video soon on it. I'm not sure on the m32u. (I will check soon to see if that slowness is the same on the m32u on yt) but try to see on yt if there is a slow transition. Good example is on the chrome Google startup. Where you input where you want to go the backround is grey. It goes high brightness to slow dimness. While my other monitors stay the same. This happens with local dimming on the m28u on old and new firmware. So if thats important to you it may be annoying. I will show that dimness so you can see and compare. But besides that it super bright and does everything I need it too.

What models are you looking at. I'm just saying many love the Aorus FV43U 4k144hz for racing Sims. They are 650 price range. But depending on your budget the lower end VA Monitors will cause more smear vs more mid their versions. Also ips you say is limited to 75hz? I would think you want more than that to future proof yourself if you get a new gpu...

While I agree with you on this topic for the most part.... LG's QC far surpasses Samsung's in my opinion. Never had an issue with an LG monitor but first Samsung G7 I got was nothing but issues (i.e. panel flickering, washed out screen, etc.)..... the "panel lottery" is real for some manufacturers more than other. Also while subjective to certain extent.... the build quality of these two panels are not comparable. The LG feels more premium than the G7. Little details worth mentioning. I was really looking forward to enjoying the G70a I got but was so disappointed.... I am sure my experience is not reflective of the majority of people.... buyer beware

Sure friend... on the G7 local dimming on. Custom setting, Black Equalizer of 11-13, brightness 100, Sharpness 60. LG gamer1, brightness 100 everything default. Remove any energy settings. The main thing here is local dimming and black equalizer helping make the G7 amazing... remember you can add a little bit of magic in the Nvidia control panel to the LG. (+47 brightness, +55/+60 contrast and + 55 d. Vibrance) but that's if you think you need...

Although I understand you mainly focus your video on black levels, a VA panel is not by all means a panel for competitive players nor for fast pace games even for non competitive players. For media consumption is better though, at least if you seat immediately in front of the screen, but even then, it has it's own compromises with poor viewing angles.

From what I seen in the monitor market lately, IPS has been the one getting the most development and manufactured compared to VA. Heck, in the 1080p category, VA monitors cannot compare to the IPS line at all due to the amount of research and development given to IPS compare to VA. There is also the fact that the market is pushing IPS more than VA. There is also a IPS monitor I read that is already pushing the limits of the native contrast ratio. I really hope VA won't be pushed aside, or dismissed entirely cause I do see a lot of potential in VA panels.

If you don't like it just reset Color to fo back to default again. Look at your favorite picture that you know of to compare. My g7 has a red push so I just lowered red a small bit and added blue a bit to even out . That's my issue tho you may have a less of a Color push.

I would actually argue against the whole dark room/lit room argument. Even in a well lit room, the ips still looks washed out compared to VA. It's not just the blacks that look better on the VA, it's every color on the spectrum cause it can actually produce a wide gamut. VA just does a better job making adjacent colors stand out more plus the darker blacks in conjunction with each other.

I am used to TN Panel monitors since decades.. My first LCD monitor ever was a 19inch Benq LCD monitor in 2006.. Now almost 20 years later I use an 22 inch LED backlight Benq GL2250.. I tried a VA monitor and it was horrendous .. I could see the VA Panel smearing even while scrolling web surfing.. 😐When you come from one technology and you are used to it, a change can be quite shocking.. Viewing angels are not that much of an issue with a small 22 inch TN. I tried a 24inch TN, and it was MUCH more noticeable especially vertically and playing at night it was a bit distracting.. I could no get a clean black level no matter the tilt of the screen.. With a 22 inch screen this is possible, or it is not really noticeable, because the FOW is simply smaller.. I have now ordered a 22inch IPS Benq 2283. Which has 2 HDMI ports which I need (PC and Playstation on my desk) Benq does not make 22 inch TN panels anymore..

I'd argue that even mid and low end VA monitors have better depth over all ips monitors. the difference is most mid and low end VA panels don't have the same color reproduction ability that their IPS counterparts have. and most suffer from minor ghosting and smearing, granted ghosting has almost been completely eliminated on VA monitors with technology advancements.

It's true the colors are awful in VA and so are the very low nits. My mobile phone has an ips screen (not OLED, an ips) and looks way better than my LG VA monitor, even after fine tuning the latter. In factory settings, it's horrid! A very clear example of colors being off in VA is to play a pool/billiards sim. Simply because the colors of the balls are very familiar to me from real life usage of a pool table, and the in-game colors are just gorgeous on the ips phone and very inaccurate on my VA panel.

Literally blinking on and off when I'm doing stuff. It's very annoying. You can adjust the black stabilizer and contrast and it helps a bit but hell. The experience is awful. Third, the curved display is now peeling off the frame in the middle. I expect the screen to come off very soon and it's spreading to the corners. Have you thought about the G3223Q? Or G3223D. I just got those 2 in.. I'll vs more stuff soon the the monitors you listed. But the LG is a safe bet. I say this because sometimes the G7 quality control may be an issue but if you get a food monitor you will be happier..

It's still very good. Its just when comparing... the differences are shown. I try to show both as even as possible. Full 100 brightness and image power. But this G7 is the best VA panel and the depth is easily seen. I will still will use my GP850.

I have 32gp850 and it is really good monitor. You can see the difference between IPS and VA, like shown in this video, but this happens only when playing dark games and even then, you usually don't have time to look the spots which has nothing in them. If you mostly play slow paced dark games, then you should go with VA. If you are playing many different games, IPS panel is usually better. G7 is maybe the only VA panel which can compete and probably even win IPS panels. Usually they are worse in everything else than displaying deeper blacks. There are two reason I did not buy G7 instead. First, it is more expensive. I bought 32gp850 for 399€ in a discount. There is no such discount on G7 in my country at least. The other thing is that G7 is curved. I have another monitor and I use this also for work, and aggressive curve of G7 just doesn't look as nice in that situation. Just for gaming, G7 is better monitor, but the difference is not that big in my opinion. I had cheaper VA-monitor earlier and I didn't actually like those deep blacks that much in games. Maybe because the color accuracy wasn't nearly as good as in G7, but still. I am used to IPS panels and those deep blacks looked even too dark for my eyes while gaming. Just saying that those deep blacks may not be as important for everyone. I probably would get used to those, but now I am actually not that eager to have them. Vibrant colors are much more important to me and you usually are not getting them with VA-panel. Those almost completely dark screens are usually loading screens and stuff like that, which isn't too important. Still, if G7 is similarly priced in your country, and you don't mind about the curve, you should get G7 rather than 32GP850. I wouldn't change mine to G7 though.
