Hi LIoyd, that's a great review and helped enormously when looking for a new gun. I went to the gun room at Bywell on Wednesday and tried every gun I had researched. After much deliberation and great advice from the gun room staff, I settled for the 694. Once we had settled on the 30" barrel length, fitting the appropriate chokes and setting up the comb to my facial profile, we took it for a test shoot and I fell in love with it. Not only did I like it, but the friend I took along ended up buying one as well. Well done to all who helped us in the gun room at Bywell. We are back next week for a lesson with our new guns!

Great review, thanks a lot. I was one of the first to lay hands on Beretta 694 sporting in india, back in Nov. Prior to this i was shooting 686 Gold, so for me it was definitely a big upgrade :). I have put about 500 through it. Its a smasher, you jst need to reach the target and its blast, no chips, total smack it. I am using Olympia Trap, which is pretty average ammo, but the results are very good. Another fellow shooter got the trap model for his son, and he jst scored his best of 112, he is 14yr. He has shot 25 quite a few times, prior to this he was using 692 black. Consistent feedback is it definitely handles much better, recoil is better. Patterns are very good. Even the wood we found is better what we had got on few 692s here. Only hickup and that was damn disappointing was that in mine, 2nd barrel was not getting engaged all the time. I opened it and inspected it to find that inertia block was facing some resistance while sliding over the back of the hammer, i filed it a bit and now its perfect. But i never expected that from Beretta. Beretta will sell a lot of these for sure. Its complete adjustable with weights, adjustable trigger pull and stock.

I started looking at the usual 525 and silver pigeon but then the 525 laminate caught my eye and I've increased my budget as I would rather buy once and have it last me. Question is ignoring fit etc would something like the 694 or ProSport be wasted in my hands or would they be able to see me throughout my shooting career, or I should I stick to the lower end and upgrade in a few years if I feel the need to. I'm in love with the looks of the 694 and it is nice to have nice things. Keep up the good work !!

I rushed out and bought a 525 when I got my license and couldn't hit a barn door with it as the stock was too high for me. I changed to a Caesar Guerini Summit and it suited me perfectly. Yo9u could even see on my registered CPSA scores which gun I'd been using.I traded the 525 in towards a Beretta 694 and it is a lovely gun to shoot and the stock suits me also. You keep seeing people say try before you buy and I wish I had.

Howdy lIoyd,A laser cut gun they lack the same feel that anything handmade gives you.not only that but the practical ability of laser cut chequering doesn't quite stand up to it's hand cut cousen.this is because, while pushing the cutters through the wood, you also condense the wood in the chequering, not only with force of the cutter but with the dust that the cutter creates.this leaves a denser, harder point in the chequering that outlooks and outlasts the laser cut option, Which often leaves a very open grain that can be susceptible to issues......but I bet you would still have laser chequering lol take care lIoyd..

I understand the benefits but remember we are talking about a gun that costs 3k. For sure on a more expensive gun the cost includes beautiful chequering. My point is that on a gun of a certain price point, laser cut is fine.

Very informative review.......i am glad that Beretta has now finally as you say a good gun, though we have to wait to prove it"s self in time, only time gives the best review.......What about all these poor 692 owners that have a fairly new gun and strugling with it"s broblems and now Beretta makes something else - improved ? How do they feel ? At least Beretta under consideration should build a gun that it"s parts could fit- upgrade - and maybe for free or low cost- the previous models to make everyone happy. Thats honesty and respect to customers. Thats why i left Beretta and now i am on Blaser"s train............

I don't think it's realistic to expect Beretta or any company to maintain an old design because of flaws. Companies develop new products on a lifecycle and release them, sometimes they are successful, sometimes not. The economic realities of product development and sales are what they are.

@@lloydyp Let's see Blaser F3 from the very first model-had flaws- till the more recent-no more flaws. Every owner can upgrade every F3 even if it is an early one in any way stock - receiver -forend- barrels without limits and make an early model look like as already said the very recent. Yes i know it doesn't come cheap but it is very important that the gun uses the same chassis all these years and you can build it piece by piece with all upgrades unlike with a Beretta that you need to buy a whole new gun and sell your's lower than half the cost. Do not get me wrong.......i do like some Beretta models, i really want to shoot the new 687 III 2020, they sure know how to make a good gun but profit is their main goal so they do mess up things with no customer care............thats sad.

Very much enjoyed this video especially your question and answer session mid way through. It would have to be very good to be better than the Browning Pro Sport. I have mentioned before here that I own and love a Browning Ultra XTR which is 16 years old and just fabulous. The Pro Sport is the latest version of that line I suppose, though not a pure trap gun. How would you compare the 694 with the Browning XS Pro? A few months ago I bought a 692 and really don't like it. It is now up for sale. I found it vague in the shoulder department and bouncy at the front end. Nicely built and good quality but not for me. I bought it because I couldn't get my head around buying a DT11 at £6000++++. I have already replaced the 692 with a used UGB25 which is really extraordinary. I love it and have morphed seamlessly from the Browning (which is now my second choice) to the UGB. Beretta seem to have slotted beautifully into that mid market sector with the 694 and I for one cannot wait to get my hands on one for a try out. Good video Mr Pattison.

I am as well very excited about Beretta launching the new 694 because it allowed me to buy a new 692 Black B-Fast for over 25% off retail. The fatal flaw for me in this gun is that it follows the fad of shallow stocks with less drop at comb and heel that is compounded by the wider comb that makes it even worse. Probably no problem for American shooters who pre-mount the gun. But for me shooting low mount FITASC, international skeet and jagdliches Schiessen I need a hunting stock drop around 1.5 and 2.5 inches respectively. From the glimpse in this video the ejector system on the 694 looks as to being the same as the improved system on the newer model 692 without the selectors (they were a huge problem and the earlier upper tang screw). Otherwise this is no improvement to me over the 692 and I got a brand new top, top 692 Black B-Fast gun for a lot less than the entry price of the basic 694. Woohoo!

@@lloydyp I did and I wanted to like it. Especially because of its better forearm and pistol grip compared to my 692. But the stock is a step in the wrong direction for me and many other shooters I know. Maybe we are built weirdly, but I need a stock more like a traditional hunting stock with 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 " drop at comb and heel and a good amount of cast off for me to mount the gun and shoot where I look. The fat comb and shallow stock on the 694 goes exactly in the wrong direction. I have two DT-11 A black B-fast and a sporting B-Fast. they have 38/60 drop. Moving the comb over for more cast off they fit me well. I shouldered the 694 many times and would always shoot significantly to the left. Must be my weird anatomy, but there are more and more FITASC shooting coaches here that note the same. Regarding the mechanical improvements on the 694 vs the late model 692. I don't see much there. Maybe the forearm mechanics? Once Beretta did away with the dreaded switchable ejectors and beefed up the upper tang screw in the later 692 they became reliable again.

@@lloydyp No, I've just never been a fan of the Schnabel fore end. The flair at the front on the Beretta's doesn't stick out and hammer the point of my fore finger as bad as the Caesar Guerrini Schnabel fore ends do though.

Do you prefer the Beretta 694 over the Ceasar Guerini Invictus I?

Now we are into the nitty gritty. At new price it's no doubt that the Ultra comes with more accessories in the box, and it's a very good gun. But for my money, I prefer the feel and the handling of the 694.

I went to Bywell last week. I am stuck, Browning XS Pro or the 694. Tour reviews of both guns were excellent but if you were buying either one now what would you go for and why? Thanks

@@garethknobbs2097 well that's an open ended invite man, just let me know. Essentially there isn't much to chose between these to in terms of value for money, they have their strengths and weaknesses but are evenly matched depending on what fits you and what suits your style.

I would take a 694 of the 828 any day of the week. The Sport has improved trigger and better weight than the older 828 but it's let down by a crappy top lever which is a bugger to open and the price which is too high.
