Thanks Lloyd , in process of applying for licence and found this informative. I’ve learnt a lot from your content as well as the lanky southerner (Johnny I think his name is ) and the strange looking geezer from Oxford gun club. Can you suggest a good shooting ground in or near Cumbria? I want to do as you suggest and look for a fitted good first gun and instruction

It's amazing to me that high end shotguns, 10-12K and up come with very poor wood most of the time. Kolar, by far, uses the nicest wood. I really think certain manufactuers would sell far more guns if they were not so damn cheap on the wood. A guy wants his high end gun to look fabulous. Much of the engraving is over way done. Then they put a damn fence post on a 10K and up shotgun, often 12-15K guns have mediocre wood at best. I have a K80 and paid a lot extra for nicer wood. That gun was far more than 15K.

Yep, towards the end the 11-87 morphed into the semi-auto counterpart to the utilitarian 870 Special Purpose and Express. The belle of the ball mantel shifted back to the 1100 as it persisted in the clay shooting roles, probably because its simpler gas system was satisfactory for target rounds. Lloyd, you ought to get a spacer and new pad fitted, so you can take the old girl out for a date once in a while. ;-) A nice thick Cervellati Microcell plus spacer might not even weigh more than the current pad.

Hi Loyd great review, I bought one as a winter gun a few months back, I’ve put a couple of thousand through it no issues other than catching the trigger release inadvertently a couple of times, the stock chokes don’t pattern well but with some beretta extended Mobil chokes works well, shooting towards the top of the local club shoot now with it, and leaving the beretta at home on occasions, I think that says enough to me about how good it is.

Hello Lloyd, Great review on this ATA…..I recently purchased a Kizilkaya RT25 (six weeks ago) from dealer here in the USA. Well, I am not too happy with the customer service at this end of this purchase. To be more specific the factory supplied chokes ( five furnished and one choke would not even screw in either barrel) and the removable trigger group which was virtually almost impossible to remove. I sent my gun to the importer in Texas and gave me a NEW set of chokes and resolved the trigger problem for the most part! Is it possible for you to get your hands on one of these guns and give an impartial review of it for any potential buyers of this model? Thank you, Mike P. (USA)

The underside of the action has been designed specifically to have a textured finish in order to resist any marks from general wear and tear that a championship sporting gun may endure on the clay shooting circuit. 100% agree about the 'Hyundai' comparison, it's something I've been saying too. People still give ATA / Yildiz stick., but as long as they keep innovating and trying new things, they'll eventually get a really good foothold. The spring-loaded adjustable trigger is a great feature, for example. They just need to make sure their fit and finish is up to par..

I have a Weatherby Orion 12 sporter that I bought 2 years ago and has proven to be an excellent gun. (made by ATA) it’s a nice gun and I shoot it well, but it IS a little more punchy than my daily which I attribute to stock dimensions as well as tighter bore on the barrels. I think I paid 900 US and it’s a lot of gun for the money

Ignore the Turkish manufacturers at your peril. You hit the nail on the head Lloyd. If ATA are Hyundai then Yildiz are Kia. They are making massive strides in modern guns in the same way the Spanish industry did in the 1930-1970s. Tried a Yildiz pro the other day for a laugh. Stopped laughing very quickly. Now actively looking for one as a second gun. Excellent, fair review as always. Never even thought about the detachable trigger until you said 😂 No reason accept for a bit of peacocking.
