Mkapa is a great Tanzanian political icon and East Africa at large. In the year 2000, President Mkapa teamed up with President Daniel arap Moi of Kenya and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, where they revived the East African Community, which had collapsed back in 1977

I can listen to Mkapa's speeches the whole day, he was so bright and had alot of exposure.......R.I.P Mkapa, you played your part in making the world a better place than you found

This leader was very eloquent in his conversations; I was lucky enough to read his book My Life, My Purpose. A Tanzanian President Remembers it has a lot as far as he''s concerned.

Very pleasing, perfect and eloquent President who knows Tanzania well and East African problems at large.

This is simply a showcase, the man suppressed and oppressed opposition in his time to the point that he sent a full combat army to Zanzibar isles (Pemba) and killed many innocent people (men and women) as well as injuring many to a point that some had to flee to the ocean as a refuge but were followed by his helicopters and drowned in a cold blood. So whoever thinks this was a great man please do your research again and perhaps read his own book (My Life my Purpose) of which he shallowly admitted the killings of these many innocent souls, simply because they refused to elect his rulling party CCM. This is just one example of massacre that took place under his presidency but also rigging election on many occasions in Zanzibar since 1995 up to atleast 2010, forcing people out to neighbouring countries like Kenya seeking asylum out of fear and for their safety. Mkapa's iron fist rule destroyed and affected many lives in Tanzania especially in Zanzibar, surely he cannot be labelled a great leader when the world and himself knows he held blood of so many in his hands
