When I used to set these up, I made it so the tool just clears the component after each bend so no body can get their finger under the tool. It also reduces time and wear on the press etc.

👍 Once they get up and running, it becomes a better flow. They were setting up the run with this particular piece, so they were checking angles, and confirming everything.

Used to fo that same operation on an old Ingersoll press that didn't have an input port for a router. We just set up the different bends in order, down the length of the bridge. I got to watch NC come in, (ticker tape, then cassette tape) get phased out by CNC. Which is when an external process source downloads directly to the machines router. It was crazy keeping up with advances. I was working in radio communications and large power supplies working with Motorola and HP out of a place called Ratelco in Seattle. Wow, the old days, the 80's. Have fun all.

I put side stops and lower the top die to just 3/8” to make the job faster and no fingers won’t get in the way plus the side stops will keep the bend out from the dies when it comes down still a safer way of doing this

Yeah, we were in the prep phase. Checking angles and setting up. Once they got going, the process tightened up.

How does the operator know what the correct order is for each bend and which way to turn the part for the correct bend? Is there a computer monitor that we don't see detailing what bend and which way to orient the part?

Yessir! There are very detailed instructions for each bend and the screen shows diagrams that guide the operator. Always starts off a little slow, but over time the rhythm sets in and they’re off!
