WHAT IS TALK HEATHEN?
Talk Heathen is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared toward long-form and on-going dialogue with theists & atheists about religion, theism, & secularism. Talk Heathen is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
Talk Heathen is filmed in front of a live studio audience every week at the Freethought Library of the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop & support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing & friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of government-religion separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists & to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

“Religious apologists complain bitterly that Atheists and Secularists are aggressive and hostile in their criticism of them. I always say: look, when you guys were in charge, you didn’t argue with us, you just burnt us at the stake. Now what we’re doing is, we’re presenting you with some arguments and some challenging questions, and you complain.” - A.C. Grayling

Such a terribly tortured analogy. I'm relieved the hosts finally figured it all out, otherwise I'd have been confused what the point was for the rest of the day. I'm still lost what the volcano is, what the boat is, and who is the high seas in that analogy. But, at least the bigger point was finally revealed. Holy cripes, the call went seriously off the rails into uncomfortable-land there at the end: Please, try harder, caller.

Anyone who would say the phrase "volcano under the island" doesn't understand what a volcano is. The volcano isn't _under_ the island. It _is_ the island. On a side note, I once spent two days arguing with a guy from Hawai'i about whether or not the lava is sentient and whether or not it "choses" to attack a building because something-something-something angering the goddess of fire or whatever. Eventually, I gave up. Couldn't convince the dude that building an "immoral" hydrothermal power plant didn't trigger the volcano erupting. I went into detail about what causes eruptions and even what determines where the lava comes out, but the guy wouldn't listen.

@@tekbarrier I mentioned that, but he said, "What about instances of lava stopping, reversing and going uphill?" (Implying that his goddess of fire causes that to happen) I didn't have a response at the time, but days later, I thought, "Wait a minute. Hawai'ian lava can reach speeds of 30 mph. At that speed, the momentum would easily propel it up a hill, and when the momentum stops due to the eruption stopping, it's gonna go back down the hill. As for lava stopping, some lava is so thick, it can barely move. Because of that, it occasionally gets stuck for days. This can easily be explained by science and not a goddess of fire.

Nice smile, i suffered cautiously the 70's with all the postive feed back on my gorgeousness or un gorgeousness, nice to know where i stood in the complimentors opinion. Chill.i you dont like it by all means handle it the way you did. Just a comment on "i dont feel comfortable with you complimenting me , please do not in the future." but damn. lit into him like a swarm of bees, Its difficult for other generations to adapt to every little twist this future has become. Hope you havent lost listeners. Now live with people not complimenting anything? Besides, should each Host speak for themselves, whats with the defense. why the offense? He feels a kin because hes such a good fan of the show and people get awe'd. Forgive him.

@@nanban1896 No she didn't tell me how to feel - she told the hosts how to feel. That's all I am concerned about - I'm glad Kathleen enjoys compliments-but not everyone does however. My dad asks now if he can give someone a compliment before he does cos we are all learning consent matters. I'm proud of him. & I don't think Kathleen is bad - I just don't think she can tell others how to feel about a compliment & actually feel it will work. No one truly chooses their feelings is all. Peace & TY for the sweetness. Sorry for spelling cos vision impaired.

@@realdaggerman105 I am not gay. If I call in an atheist show ( I am atheist BTW) I don't want to joke (especially 15 seconds into the call) about me gay propositioning the host and his blue haired co-host says "oh my" like it's just fine (it's extremely weird and creepy to me she even said Oh My in the creepy voice to emphasize it's creepy). Then they get freaked out over a benign compliment. What's worse, saying someone is beautiful or saying I gay propositioned someone when you are not gay and don't appreciate that type of joke? I don't know how this could be confused. Why would they be comfortable with gay jokes when they don't know the caller or if he is ok with it, and not a compliment? Anyway, they should follow their own advice if they are going to massively freak out. 1 standard. Easy to understand. Either no freak out or all freak out. No compliment and no gay proposition jokes sounds fair. If it's only gay jokes or compliments I would say it is unfair. Are you saying if he made a sexual proposition joke about Tracy (and even had a friend say Oh My all within 15 seconds no less) it would have been ok?

The caller actually preached less for once. Sorry but right to speak my mind always supercedes your possible offense and any past traumas shouldn't have to know to say "hey that is a nice color outfit" or "I like your hair." It is not my job to maintain everyone else's list of triggers or even consider them. If we are close it is a dual investment in that respect and understanding. I was not put here for your pleasure of mind any more than you are here for me to see and enjoy.

You do know that all bible stories are stolen from other, older myths? Noah's Flood is a copy of Gilgamesh's Flood, the story of Moses is a rip-off of Sargon of Akkad. Hell is stolen from Tartarus from Greek Myth, with the Norse name Hel placed on top of it. The Angels are just taken from the Valkyries. And Jesus is just another Demigod rip-off which almost all myths have. Nothing in the bible is original and pretty much the entire christianity is a rip-off of older mythologies, meaning of all of them, christianity is the least likely to be true.

The only TRUE deities are Osiris, Quetzacoatl, Marduk, Amatsu-Mikaboshi, and Asherah! All other deities, not limited to but including Yahweh/Jehovah/Allah/Hashem/Elohim, are false and demonic deceivers! True salvation lies with you embracing them as your only saviors. You know this to be a fact because they wrote it divinely upon your heart. The only reason you would deny this is because you want to sin🤣🤣🤣🤣
