Neither the tortilla chips were invented in LA, the so called inventor was a from Mexico, and later live in LA. Maybe she was the first person to market them in USA, but was and always had been a traditional way to eat tortillas that for some reason are not use as tortilla. The idea came from Tostadas and Totopos born from native Mexican tribes

You could DIY (like Abba's dancing queen, having the time of your life) but I doubt it would be as good. There are other factories making the same things so you have to add to the process to convince people to buy your things, not the competition's.
