I hope all the kids know that we are in a complete synth renaissance/rebirth. I started getting into vintage synth in the early 2000's... good luck owning more than one vintage synth, and owning an ARP or an Oberheim or a prophet... good fucking luck. I was able to get my hands on a Korg Polysix for around 700 dollars. Nowadays all these behringer reissues, the mini reissues Roland is doing, the cool stuff teenage engineering is doing, and just all the new stuff that sounds great for 400 dollars. It's fucking awesome and also sucks that I kinda missed it. I still dabble in music, but I would have been in heaven when I was in bands in the 2000's. Oh well. Glad it's here now.

Rumor had it that Behringer was supposed to compound the models which have already become available with an Oberheim OB emulator. That would be a tonic for anyone who can’t get their hands on the real deal. I also like the way this one was compared inside with a Pro One and the call was made for Behringer to emulate *it* .

Many thanks Starsky for actually showing what the power adaptor looks like as I can't find mine at present. It annoys me that whilst synth manufacturers out-source the power block they never put a name on them and yes I know I should have labelled it when I got it but it would have been a nice touch for them to have a label on in the first place. There's a lot to be said for old kettle leads.

What I love about this synth is the 4023 filter. If you get resonance and cutoff right, it sounds like what you're playing is being played back on tape. Res near the top, cutoff backed off a bit, maybe a bit of sine LFO to modulate the cutoff. I don't know if the original Arp 4023 filter did the same thing or not, but this one sounds great.

This is retailing today for £385. In 1981, I paid £310 (£965 in today's money) for my first synth, a Moog Prodigy which had no external connections apart from an audio output. I would gladly have paid £385 then for an ARP Odyssey, being as I was a great admirer of Billy Currie's Odyssey work in Ultravox, Visage etc. This could be described as a golden age of analogue synthesis.

Great stuff Starsky, thank you for another great demo. Very timely from my perspective, as I have this new friend arriving at some stage next week when DHL get their finger out.. That'll make it 4 Berry's in the last 14 months - that's quite an achievement extracting such cash from a miser like me. I guess Arturia spoiled us all with the simplicity of their Keystep sequencer format but this one can ratchet so even if I cry with confusion I will master it (he said bravely) :)

They're nice FX actually. Limiting the number of parameters was a good decision IMHO, but I'd replace with stereo FX in the studio. Great for live and for experimenting though. Sometimes a sound goes hand in hand with an FX so having them readily available is a nice touch.

It was great, but had to return it due to size. It is massive and my space is not. I thought I could move a few things around, but I miscalculated. When they come out with the module, I'll do that. It's super deep so it can't sit on a rack easily without overhanging quite a bit, which means it can only sit on the top rack, but that was really uncomfortable for me. Now that they are here, I can wait till some space opens up in my home, just a few more years for an empty nest. The digital effects are better and the sound is richer on the Odyssey than my Minilogue XD module

Behringer just added a sequencer and mono FX which aren't in sync with the synth. LEDs faders would be fine if they were from different colours. It doesn't make sense, they could have improved the ARP (a better way to change pitch, to choose between key retrig or free LFO) but they cloned Korg's reedition.

@@HotStrange True the ody kinda blows away the D.. lol so much to analyze on this.. the thing that matters I think is the kind of music each interface inspires. That's where, in my book, the mini has the ody beat. Just got mine in the mail a couple days ago and was surprised at how big it was. It’s built very well but the key action isn’t my favorite. The sound is there, though, and that’s all that matters. It took me a minute to get it to make a sound also 😅 The effects are wonderful, too. Mine does have multi colored LEDs, though, which I guess is a new addition. Would’ve loved a bit better key action and stereo out for the effects, but I have no other complaints. I also had to rearrange my surge protector due to the length of the power supply. Ah well. At least the complaints are small quibbles. Otherwise, it’s an excellent synth.

I can't for the life of me figure out the gate parameter. (The manual said to hold shift + something else, & the tempo slider would turn into a gate length slider, but whatever it said I tried multiple times & it didn't work) Any luck figuring that out? And BTW sure you eventually picked up on this, but the arp DOES have hold, you have to hit the arp button twice in a row to activate it. That I did actually manage to get working lol...oh & I followed the manual on another SHIFT combination related to the arp, and it almost blew my monitors! Don't know WTH happened, but after I did the button combo an ongoing loud note blasted through (The VCA Gain slider for drones was all the way down & even turning the VCA volume all the way down did nothing.!) Had to power the thing off

This just seems like Behringer took what was already a great musical instrument and gave it improvements that actual working musicians would want - especially those dimmable lights on the sliders. I just wish they'd get away from the cheap little power adapters, it's so much easier to replace a lost or broken standard cable, plus you can buy them in whatever length you want.

Hi! Question: did I see that right, are you using BOTH the balanced XLR and the unbalanced 1/4" as OUTs,? When my B-Odyssey arrives in a few days, I want to connect it to a basic keyboard amp. The amp does have two instruments INs, and I was surprised that I could possibly run both the low output (1/4" TS) and high output (XLR to 1/4" balanced) from the Odyssey into my humble 10w practice amp. So in this video are you showing both audio OUTs from the Odyssey going to the same interface, monitors, amplifier, what-have-you? Thanks!

I thought maybe my unit was defective, but yours seems to behave identically; it doesn't have any appreciable effect until you get to around the upper 10% of the fader's throw, then it has an effect, but not a good one.

It looks like they all do it. I’ve had a few replies and seen some posts on Facebook saying they have it.

@@StarskyCarr I came back to your video for the same reason-High pass filter's scratchy upper register on mine as well. You and Zach helped me realize it's better to just hang onto the thing!

I’ve not put them side by side (don’t have access to an original MK3 sorry) but considering how close both the Behringer and Korg versions are I can’t see them both missing the mark in identical ways. I.e. I suspect it is extremely close if not identical (considering the original designer was invoked in creating the Korg version).
