Behind the Scenes with Wētā Workshop on Rebel Moon - Part One: Child of Fire

Фильм және анимация

We worked alongside legendary Prop Master Brad Elliot on more than 400 weapons, gadgets and more for Zack Snyder’s epic space fantasy ‘Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire’. Beautiful woven flags, detailed books, and exquisite coins were designed and built to help create Rebel Moon’s fictional galaxy ruled by the imperialistic Motherworld.
Here’s a snapshot of a few key pieces we worked on including Nemesis’ molten swords, and some very interesting bots, that don’t look like much fun if you’re on the receiving end. Like what you see?

It’s worth the watch for the artistry. The story is not original or told in a very compelling or cohesive way, but the designs are fantastic.

In a way. In the way that there was tons of talent and effort in the design and art and props (like is shown in this video)... But none of that effort seeped into the script and direction.

Have a lot of respect for wetas work. Sadly the movie was absolutely terrible.

You’re judging the first cut they released I get it but let me refresh you with this fact and hopefully if there’s any part you even enjoyed for a sec in rebel moon then you’ll grasp this next point. Zack legit only got to film his full nearly 6 hours worth script of a Rated R sci-fi epic if he agreed to make a PG13 version not his story for Rebel Moon is so adult and bonkers that it’s basically Heavy Metal (feel free to search that up). To every dumb fool who kept crying that it’s a “rip off” of other things is nonsensical it’s inspired like legit EVERYTHING is… the cut showed a lot of familiarity because sure at Rebels core it’s taking the tropes you’ve known. Now the rated R cuts aren’t just “extended” having read the novelization of Part One which is basically the directors cuts in book form, they’re VASTLY different. I enjoyed the PG13 version (and soon part twos because it’s a straight war movie and will have the rebels backstories told as well). If you didn’t all good but if you like Zack Snyder’s work then the Rated R cuts later this summer are 3 hours EACH full with everything intended so maybe don’t fully judge his creation yet considering the versions we have for NOW are the Netflix casual friendly cuts 😅 soon Zack’s true vision will come out and I think you’ll be surprised at what the real potential of his work here is!

Agreed. Wondering if the Director's Cuts would be better. Most likely not, though.
