Ойын-сауық
It's finally here! This is an unboxing & review video for Smaug the Fire Drake by Weta Workshop from The Hobbit. This is by far my largest statue from Weta (and probably will remain so). Even though it is 1/100 scale this is Smaug we're talking about so IT IS HUGE... W 82 cm x H 88 cm x L 37 cm
Sculptor: Gary Hunt
0:00 Intro - Unboxing & Artbox
1:30 The Base
5:22 Smaug the Fire Drake
11:14 Final Thoughts

It’s insane to think this was sculpted. The skin texture is weirdly the most impressive/my favourite part

Yeah I'd imagine it took Gary a while, so much detail.
Cyber Hobbit absolutely killing it with the regular reviews! Awesome video of a serious piece of statue - majestic!

When I collected resin garage kits, most producers would leave the mouth hollow and cast the teeth and tongue as one separate piece in translucent resin to finish them in great detail so the buyer can insert them when putting it together. I believe this is the approach they should have taken here. The Chinese painters are assigned to groups, so one person paints, the wings, one person paints the body, another paints the base, etc. Unfortunately this sometimes leads to unmatched paint schemes like you noticed under the wings. A great piece, thanks for the review!

This is actually one of the coolest pieces i have ever seen, WOW!
Holy moly…that Smaug is gigantic and most impressive. Well worth the money. Wow. The teeth and the seam lines to me are minor. I look at it as a whole, and is super awesome. Great review. Cheers

Great video Ryan.. I recently got the older Smaug, and I can see the two Smaugs are amazing! thanks for sharing my friend!
I just got home after a long day of working on mandatory assignments in various subjects on uni, then right to my part-time job thereafter. This is what I needed after this long day! ☺ Absolutely fantastic unboxing and review! Amazing piece! such great sculpt and paint. Keep these videoes coming😊

that looks great in your room
I would take base as a stand alone statue. Smagh is great but with him it is just to big and I simply don’t have a space for it. Either way it looks gorgeous.

Thanks Ben! I was happy to see they made sure this wouldn't have any issues with that. I had a worry the wings might sag over the years, but metal on metal definitely is encouraging. Thanks for watching man!
Awesome statue. It's huge. Because the dragon is huge. Love the wings, they look like they are big enough to carry him in flight. Some dragons have wings that are too small. Over all I would love to have one in my collection. Your collection of swords on the wall is spectacular.
Such an excellent piece mate! Closest I’ve come to buying something from The Hobbit! 😁 But…. My resolve remained strong! 😆

it's my favorite piece from the Hobbit for sure, we'd all love to collect everything but space remains the issue. I'm to the point I've had to start putting certain things back in boxes to await a new home to be displayed. Thanks for commenting man!

Awesome video for an awesome statue! Thank you for answering my burning question! I always wanted to know if they made him with the scale shot out, but didn't really fancy spending about $4k NZD to find out haha

ha yeah that'd be cool, but I've yet to see any "fire" that was sculpted that I really liked, if they did an LED inside would be a must.

He looks huge and wonderful. The most enjoyable thing from the Hobbit IMO. I'm curious if you purchased directly from Weta and had to pay the outrageous ($400) shipping fee on this? Same going for the Dead Marshes I've herd.
@thecyberhobbit
Жыл бұрын
Yes sir! straight from Weta... Shipping for Smaug was $418.89 and The Dead Marshes was $401.88. Insane prices... I think they fly it around the globe a couple times for good luck.

@@thecyberhobbit Wow! Makes me rather happy to be on the downside of statue collecting and focusing on UC replicas!
The biggest thing I hate about unboxing is that feeling that you're going to find a lot of loose pieces that aren't supposed to be loose. 🙄 Looks like they did a good job of making the easily broken parts separate pieces on this one.
@thecyberhobbit

I was actually very scared something might be broken especially when it arrived as I heard a loud "thud" then the doorbell rang :D
I really enjoy your reviews. Amazing job. 👍 May I ask where you got your Gandalf the White staff light that is hanging on the wall? Thanks.

At least, they manage to pack the statue very well so it didn't get damaged in transit. Do you think they should have added an orange led in his troat to simulate him breating fire ?

In comparison to the production photos, how do you think it rates? Also how did you take it when they sent you the shipping cost ?
@thecyberhobbit

Honestly I can't really see any differences from the production photos, nothing stood out to me that made me want to go check either. The shipping cost is a whole different story... very disappointed to have to pay $400+. I really think they need to do better or they will start losing customers. The Master Collection "The Dead Marshes" was also the same story... $400+. :( Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@andymoury2977 couple of reasons, 1st is to avoid spreading oils or anything on the statue (not that I'm greasy or anything just be cautious)... 2nd reason and probably the MAIN reason is so when doing closeups people don't have to see my horrible nail biting problem and get distracted 🤣 I do a lot of 3d printing with resin, so I have bulk supply of 2000 pairs, so I figure why not.

Yeah I was a bit curious why that skin looked the way it did... I feel like perhaps they had to dig into his body to make the holes for the wings and then when they covered it back up they couldn't match the skin texture to the rest of the body. Thank you for commenting!
