Behind the Lens - Horse Skijoring!

This might be my favorite vlog yet! I filmed the entire Skijoring competition from the top of my camera last weekend, and what a fun perspective it captured! I also share about personal and technical challenges I faced that day and what I learned in the process. Hold on your hats, folks! 🏇🤠

So much fun! Great horses and look at all the gypsy horses! We do horseboarding here for lack of snow, but its great to run through the surf as well dragging a wakeboarder. Any advise on making horse video`s? Would love tutorials on that. The photo`s are insane!!

I feel like I'm still just learning that! But thanks for the idea, I'll tuck it away for the future. :)

Oh my gosh, what an incredibly fun experience for you. That looks amazing!! And those lighting situations do NOT look easy, lol. Bright sun, into shade, white snow... Eeek. Great job. You nailed it! :D

Thank you! Yes, very challenging. I found I preferred the bright sun to the occasional cloud cover. Somehow it made the photos much more exciting!

OMG....what an awesome event that was to watch and photograph! Amazing photos. I am surprised that the horses didn't have special irons on their feet for better tracking or to prevent slipping. Really cool. Wonder where these riders and skiers practice this sport. Thanks for sharing, Anett

Thank you! I wondered that too about the shoes. The track where the horses ran was pretty soft for footing, the ski jumps were much more slippery. They really don't have the chance to practice except the morning of the event. Makes it even more impressive, doesn't it?

Great stuff. What aperture did you shoot to get rider and skier in focus?

Just a quick flip through the photos and the lowest I found was 4.5. On average, I was between 5.6 and 7.1. The Tamron 150-600 lens starts at 6.3 on the long end, so that's why some ended up so high!

Great pictures! Very impressive winter fun and camera skills. Do you use a GoPro on your head to shoot with your DSLR and video or do you have an assistant?

Thank you Cindy! I actually put the GoPro on top of my camera in the hot shoe for the flash. I almost completely forget it's there!
