He worded it weird but that's exactly what it is. You cant try and punk an inmate in front of everyone, because if they stand down and take it, he looks like a punk. I did 2 1/2 years corrections (prison) and it's a quick lesson you learn. If you wanna get an inmate to respect you, do it one on one. That or fight and hopefully you win. Lol

The first dude... he’s trying to assert himself and show that he can’t be messed with- which needs to be done. BUT he’s going about it in alllll the wrong ways. People won’t mess with you when they respect you. You’re not going to be respected when you go around treating people like trash just to seem tough. The thing about most prisoners? They have street smarts. They can spot a BSer from a mile away. They can see right through the facade. He lost their respect in a matter of seconds and he will never earn it back.

It's not as bad as tv makes it out to be. Most inmates just want to be left alone. Not all of them break rules. Most inmates will make sure a new inmate follows the rules in their area because it's a lot less hassle then having to be shook down all the time.

If you treat people with respect you'll find that inmates can be the nicest of people and actually capable of teaching lessons in morality. 10:17 has the same painting on the wall as the place where I was locked up at but this is a different facility. Makes me wonder if that painting has some special kind of meaning. One of the COs told me it was a painter who painted the landscape when the first white settlers moved out here. Idk
