Beaten? Nah, if they are gonna take the extra time for assaulting an officer they are gonna hurt him for real. A guard like him wouldn't last long at all in max. security because they got nothing to lose and would probably try to kill the guy. Just because he's a CO and they are inmates doesn't mean he should be disrespectful. They are still people.

I feel like he is antagonizing the prisoners for no reason, Ive never worked in this environment but I dont think that swearing at the prisoners or calling them names is a good strategy

@DPHeightz23 They're making it sound like it's just. They don't fight like men, so yes, he was definitely pressing his luck and risking his life acting the way he did towards them which was stupid. Guards have to do their best to not mind what they say and concentrate on doing their job the way they were trained to which is not acting tough and provoking inmates. They're supposed to be above all of that.

CO did right thing by searching there, you don’t pick and choose ur battles you battle everything. Picking and choosing ur battles is actually way worse because your not consistent
I’ve done this for three years- you have to earn your respect ✊️ then they will respect you. Don’t make their time any harder than It has to be. The inmate was right when he said pick your battles. Do your job but be firm, fair, and consistent. Everything will fall into place. Learn the inmates and their habits. Especially their names! This can be a rewarding job or it can be a HARD job-

Of course, the inmate who said pick your battles was actually saying overlook some things, and don't do your job so meticulously. Let us get away with some stuff. The problem with that is that he is going to start demanding that instead of asking for it, and he's going to start demanding that the officers overlook more and more and more and more and you get the point.

So if you want the inmates to not make fun of you and embarrass you and ease-up on picking on you, you let them get away with things they're not supposed to do and in return, they ease-up on the bullying.
People like him are part of the reason there is so much friction between guards and prisoners

Eh I’m a CO and one of the first things you hear when you’re new is to get your weight up, get bigger etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if he did it on purpose and not from being “nervous”

I worked in corrections for 23 years until I retired in 2018. You have to come to work and leave all your other problems at the gate. Same as going home. You also have to be consistent and fair. The first year as an officer is the time you are getting a good foundation.
He went from only asking nicely 2 times (2:32) to telling the other officer he asks nicely 3 or 4 times (3:32) lol

Sure. Let's go with that. Couldn't possibly be that he's adapting to a new environment with radically different conditions than what he's trained for. Sidenote: I really don't think you can call him a "loser" since he probably has kore muscle than a decent portion of the inmates.

Respect is earned not given... The inmates owe zero to any of the CO"s ... It is a harsh reality ... I give a million props to you all for the time and danger you face of hard core minds. Loyalty is respected and if they see a loyal cop they respect it ... Dirty cops are less than in their eyes.

Nah he was provoking the CO first with his comments. That’s what they do. They throw little insults and smart azz comments all the time. Sometimes they put out the bait and the shark bites.
Good for him for not giving up and learning from his mistakes. He has an open mind for learning and making adjustments

In my experience. When I worked in custody I limited my verbal interactions to cordial greetings, commands, and explanations of the rules being enforced. You can do that job effectively without getting emotionally invested in it.

My guess is they get authoritative and strict disciplinarian from the academy, and then when they get into the prison, it's: relax the rules and turn your head the other way until it threatens institution security or life. The unfortunate emotionality of it erupts when the tension between these two discrepancies emerges. and it isn't right.
This guys gonna get hurt he's a definite liability too the guys around him.
you cant be a CO and then talk to inmates the way they talk to each other. lead by example.

I feel officer Cordova, he's by the books and doesn't let anything slide. You give them a hand, they'll take your arm. The other officers probably let a few things slide, pick and choose their battles. It's not fair for Cordova because he ends up being the most hated. Cordova is the type of employee you want to clone, but unfortunantely he's alone and from my experience one day it will get to him, and he will change his ways, be more lenient. We all have a limit.
This Cordova guy takes everything very personal i wonder if he is still working there??
You can't demand respect if you swear and talk to them like dirt. Just gets people more riled up!!!!

Doubt that. Whoever jumped him would become the CO's torture toy for the rest of their staying in the house. CO's know the power they have and how to abuse them with no consequences, that's why you have 2 or 3 max for each 300 inmates.
