I spent 11 years in the system of NM, been to every prison in the state except Clayton, and hit every level except for level 1. I'm an expert at fishing!! 😉 I'd take the string from my mattress cuz its strong, then make myself a weight out of anything sort of heavy but not too heavy, then attach a staple to the end of my weight so I can grab a different inmates fishing line and pull it into my cell. I can pretty much MacGuyver anything and I still use what I learned in there out here on the streets, even at work 👌

Mister Jayy, OC spray isn’t the topic of my original comment. It’s the fact that he says, “Please do it” in context of referencing inmates who say they’re going to hurt themselves. If you go further into the video, then yes, the spray is mentioned - regardless of it being lethal or not, you shouldn’t be saying stuff like this. If you wish people would harm themselves so you can gas them and stop the situation, find a different job.

A CO is constantly around murderers, drug runners, rapists, ect, making it one of the most dangerous jobs in the USA. The way this officer is acting (and the higher ups know it) it completely wrong and he will not last long with this kind of behavior. His job is not sturdy, and like you assumed SiM's, I'm sure yours is even worse.

“I watched the show cops....I knew I had to be a CO” No, you wanted to be a cop. The question is, why aren’t you? That’s also the wrong reason to get into enforcement. He gets off on the power, id bet. At minimum, it’s the persona of being in charge regardless. It should be to help people, improve your community, help rehabilitate inmates....but, like that’ll happen.

Its cold in there, you can see their breath when they do the interviews. It sucks but they purposely keep it cold in there to keep them on edge and not get to comfortable.

Erzey are you dumb New Mexico is a desert and deserts get cold in later afternoons to nights in the 40s plus they have huge central ac units that’s they can control all day long

This rookie wanted the inmate to try to harm himself is why we have systemic problems in corrections. He is definitely not trained in mental health and the scary reality of our society is prisons are the biggest mental health centers. In my humble professional that CO needs to be retrained in protocols.

I really like how Purto isn’t about how tall he is. He’s following what interests him rather than being all about proving others wrong in underestimating him. But his attitude is best suited for the CERT team and not as a CO/therapist/peacemaker.

I love how everyone's quoting “When an inmate threatens to start harming their self I think to my self, please just do it so I can gas you” and completely ignoring the full sentence like a news reporter would... “When an inmate threatens to start harming their self I think to my self, please just do it so I can gas you *and* *put* *a* *stop* *to* *the* *action* ” and I'm pretty sure he means instead wasting the officers time, leaving him in the cell, then finding the guy dead in his cell when they come to check on inmates later, he can get in there straight away and stop the guy from taking his own life.
