This was a fantastic episode. I have purchased a 2nd hand well loved Sweet 16 & I have been watching really old videos. So great to have an updated version. Great job, ladies!!
I love you guys so much. Thanks.
Thanks for the demonstration of the bobbin case tension - that clarified some things for me. Thank You.
Great video. My first machine was the original HQ16 on the folding table and it came with bobbins that had no slot. I am glad the slot was added.
Just like you mentioned, I was quilting at 10:30 pm Saturday (3/23/24), dropped my bobbin case and the tension spring popped out. So frustrating because I was on a timeline. Lucky I was able to get the spring back in place and finished my quilt. Will definitely buy an extra bobbin case or two.
Awesome education as always.wish I had seen this one in the beginning of My journey. So many questions answered. THANK YOU BOTH for a wealth of information! Wishing you did one video per week and live questions and answers.😁❣️
Thank you so much for all the teaching that you ladies do I really appreciate it. I learned so much from you and from this video about the bobbins thank you again❣️✂️🧵🪡
I have found that slippery thread should not be fully wound on a bobbin - it slides right off. So I only wind them 3/4 full.
I make a skinny, long quilt sandwich to use to test the tension of my bobbins every time I change the bobbin. I have a little foot frame and I just move one side of the quilt and put in my tension tester. My first 40 to 50 stitches of a new bobbin always sews lousy stitches and then smooths out and has great stitches, so I always test out the bobbin tension every time I change the bobbin.

That's a great idea!
Thank you for efforts in these informational videos. I am finding them so helpful in my beginning journey with my Moxie. A live Q&A would be fun too!!!!

We are generally monitoring the videos live if you have questions!!
Thank you. This answers several of my questions.
Great video! Lot's of good information. Like Kim, I prefer pre-wound bobbins because I think they actually hold more thread than the ones we wind ourselves. But once in awhile I need a color that isn't available on the pre-wounds :)

I totally agree!
Place a large index card labeled 1-30 in that bobbin box. This way, you can easily identify what thread is on each bobbin. Heard my local library has a Handi Quilter with Pro Stitcher in their Maker's Space. I'm looking forward to taking the orientation class and getting started! Do you ever use the Towa gauge for setting tension?

That sounds like a fantastic opportunity to use a Handi Quilter!! As for the Towa gauge, it's one of those things that you either love it or you don't. I personally don't use it but I know many people who do.
Good video ladies!!!
Will vibration from simply quilting mess with tension? Do I need to readjust with each bobbin change? I am using Glide prewound.

Every time you change your bobbin, you will want to check the tension.
Hi, my bobbin spring did pop out. When I put it back in, my tension was definitely off. Can you confirm if it should fit back in convex or concave? Thanks so much!

The innermost section should be raised up while the outer most ring will be flush with the bobbin case.
I’d like to see you tension the bobbin with a magnaglide bobbin in. The magnet holds it in place….

I tension my magnaglide bobbins the same way I do all other bobbins.
Okay, seasoned quilter here. I have a 10 year old Fusion and when I bought extra bobbin cases I had the “old” style bobbin cases. After dropping a few on the hardwood floor, I had to purchase two more. Now I have the “new” bobbin cases. It seems to me that I have to re-tension the bobbin half-way through the bobbin (you can hear it’s too tight by the way it clicks and after visually looking, it is indeed incorrect). What’s the deal? I’m protecting the one “old” bobbin case with my life because I don’t like the new bobbin case given from my example above. Is there any way to obtain the “old” style bobbins any longer?

Hmmm. That is interesting. I use both styles of bobbin cases without noticing any difference. I don't believe that the "old" style is available any longer. Let me do a little research and see if anyone else has heard of this situation.
Great video thank you. I watched for pre wound bobines but it seams there is several size so witch one can I take for my Moxie please?

M-class
Do you ever use bobbin gauge for consistency?
@HandiQuilter

Many quilters do. It is one of those things that is a personal preference.
Do these bobbins work on any longarm that takes M bobbins? Or just HQ? (Referring to the purple metal ones)
@HandiQuilter

They should work on any machine that uses M class. Check with your manufacturer if you are not sure.

Number 9 I remember better as q for quilt 😊
If the bobbin curves out in the middle, it's convex. If it curves in in the middle, it's concave. Curving in is con"cave." Think of a cave. Caves go in.
