When I first started sparring I was flinching every time someone throws a punch but I figured out if I stay relaxed it was so much easier to spar

I put a medicine ball on the floor. I get into a Pushup position above it with my stomach over the ball. I drop from this position and exhale. This helps me to simulate getting hit. It does not take long to learn to exhale.

This has solved a big mystery for me. My sparring fitness seems to not reflect my overall fitness at all. I get ridiculously out of breath after 1 or 2 rounds. So glad I watched this vid.

Breathing is the most fundamental of ALL fundamentals and yet it gets so easily overlooked! I absolutely LOVE the way you demonstrated breathing on defense leading to easier offensive transitions. I'm definitely guilty of holding my breath while defending and that quick inhale can gas me even with good cardio. I wouldn't have even known how simple of a fix it is without this video!

I've been kick boxing for 2 years now. I can run forever. Do intervals. But never realized why I gassed so quickly when sparring. Now that I've watched this video, I realize when ever I spar, and people close distance and start unloading shots, I do freeze up and hold my breath. This video was an eye opener and I really appreciate it. With regards to your gloves, I like the idea. I use a pair of 12oz title glove. I like how fluidly I can throw punches but hate how sore my knuckles get (especially on my right hand. The middle knuckle is usually swollen and in agony after bag work). Would be nice to have a lightweight glove with very good padding for the knuckles. I feel like i have more than enough wrist support with my handwraps.

Try the ringside apex training gloves, padding is great and the wrist support is the best in the business! not too expensive either, i got a pair on amazon for 30 dollars!

bro thank you for this video, some coaches dont really go in to certain subjects properly, either that or in a way i dont fully understand, i move around a lot but love boxing too much to let my training slide. so i've trained in few gyms. this video helped me a lot in sparring. it took a while after watching for me to comment only because i took what you said and tried it out first. I asked my parents to get me a heavy bag and stand for Christmas. I've been wanting one for a while, but have been putting it off due to other things. I figured I'd ask for it for Christmas that way I don't have to spend my money on it. It's coming in Wednesday. I'm excited, I've always loved the idea of boxing. I've done a lot of shadowboxing, as well as kickboxing in my home. It's helps a lot with stress. Not only that, but it is a wonderful workout. I really need to get back into shape. I haven't been eating that well, and I haven't been exercising as good as I used to. I feel like it's catching up to me.

Great tutorials! Great technical insight, but also inspirational! I'm glad I discovered this sport and your channel. As for the feedback you asked for (more than one year ago...), I'm just a beginner, but I can say that, you're right, punching the bag does hurt the knuckles (so, special gloves for that it's a good idea) and the price range you're thinking about, it's in the market. All the best!

JT im a huge supporter of your work, humble and dedicated. a true reflection of boxings principals. A quick opinion on the design, I personally have no time for gloves in which the bulk of weight is condensed into the knuckles. Reyes have the perfect shape to adapt from, they enforce the illusion of being able to punch through concrete. Another issue i find with gloves is the flexibility, I have worn mauy thai gloves for a while as they open up easier to hook the defense hand. i like that.

It would be nice to see another audiotape of yours in which you shout numbers and the listener is responding with defensive movements, or you could make a video in which you use the tapes that you already made, but instead of hitting when numbers are shouted, the listener responds to those combinaitions with defensive movements that you would explain. Thanks for the knowledge that you share with us, J. !
