    You don't just need a warm jacket you want a waterproof jacket and good waterproof footwear for the winter. Our winters in Halifax and surrounding areas are sloppy and wet. It tends to rain after it snows or we get rain during the winter and it gets slushy. Also if you own a car buy proper winter tires, do not try and get around on cheesy all season tires. I have lived on the area all of my life and you will regret not having good tires in the winter. 😉

    Glad to see there is still pizza shops at pizza corner. Spend many a Friday night there in the mid-90s. Its pizza corner as there was (and looks like still is) a pizza shop on 3 of the 4 corners (with a church on the other corner). Also, if you live in Dal or SMU residences it is a handy spot to stop to eat and warm up (in winter) before the long trek back to res after a night out drinking.

    I can add after having lived in Halifax in the 90's that you can figure it out yourself on the basis of what Pran said in the vid: 5 big universties (well, 2 big really ones) plus not all that much going on in terms of very serious economic activity equals crazy competition and low salaries when it comes to any type of office based work. But Pran is making an excellent point about it being perhps a good place for entrepreneurship. Please correct me if I'm wrong. But you never forget Halifax and especially the Martimers. I'm shocked Pran found it so hard to make friends. I made friends immediately and I came from Europe and my English was not even that good back then. Argyle didn't have all the bars back then either but I know your "pizza corner" street relatively well as I worked there in a relatively classy restaurant owned by a local celebrity chef. 😉😎✌️

    I've never thought of public transportation as an issue at any time and I have been using the bus system since the seventies, back when the buses had ashtrays and smoking people on them. Hah. Anyway, there are bus routes going everywhere all over both cities and express busses to go to Sackville, etc. They are typically on time also.

    It’s probably not what you expect. As you can see from my name I live in Toronto, I was born here and have spent all of my 53 years here, but my mother and her entire family live in Nova Scotia, mostly in the Halifax area, so I go there quite frequently, and I have to say that it is one of the most beautiful little cities I have ever been to Anywhere in the world, and I have travelled the globe and been to every major population center. But there’s just something about Halifax that makes me feel at home. It is a small city, call me about a half million people, but it is such a huge part of our country‘s history, it is reflected all throughout the city, and the people are absolutely incredible. No matter what I was looking for, there was always somebody willing to help me, something you will not find here in Toronto, or any other major city for that matter. It is a slower pace of life, so if you’re looking for the hustle and bustle of a big city, it might not be for you, but it is definitely worth going there just for a vacation. Because so much history has happened there, it permeates everything there, and while it is really difficult to put into words, I will never get sick of going there. I’m not sure I could live there because I’m so used to living in a really big city, but I have so much family there, it’s pretty much my second home anyways. The winter can be brutal, but generally the climate is tempered and comfortable, and if you love to eat or drink, then Halifax is definitely a place for you, especially if you love seafood, because you can find it everywhere, freshly caught, even street vendors sell fresh seafood. The cost of living is a lot cheaper than other cities, the only negative thing is trying to get around. If you don’t have a car, can be a little tricky because their public transit is terrible, so it’s either bicycle or walking. But there is just so much to see and do there, you never run out of things to explore. I even went ghost hunting at some of the many historical buildings and fortresses, was a totally amazing experience. Not so much for the paranormal aspect, although I have to admit a few of the places did scare the crap out of me after I was touched by something I couldn’t see, you learn so much history on these tours, history that I have never ever heard about in my life, which is strange because as a Canadian, Halifax play a very very important role in countless major episodes of our history. Do you have got to see Pier 21, the main entrance to Canada when people used to travel by ship, before airplanes were able to cross the Atlantic. I have a lot of relatives that actually came over from the UK, and arrived at Pier 21 to start their life in Canada. All I can say is, if you’ve never been there, go, I promise you that you will not regret it, especially if you’re Canadian, because it was such a huge part of our country‘s history, you’ll be amazed to learn all the things I did, that helped shape this country into what it is today.

    To be honest I'm a Newfie with an Ontario number that I have to keep for 2 more years. My wife and I came to Nova Scotia with the intention to move here. We treat everyone with respect. Northern Nova Scotia has been good but Halifax if your are not local,people are cold!!! We went into the tourist information on the water front and they were extremely unwelcoming and did not give us the time of day!!!! Even real-estate agents are not even returning our calls!!!! Prince Edward Island was great people are extremely friendly and courteous.... Maybe it's post covid. But we are seriously considering moving back to Alberta or even B.C. people are friendly and helpful there.

    Lol oh my I have to step in here and say my peace, bro HALIFAX is my home town born raised there. Moved out west To Vancouver then Alberta back to Vancouver, Kelowna, Cranbrook BC, Kimberley BC back to Kelowna back to Vancouver BC, yes love to Travel part was because of my job at that time my choice of course. Great people except Vancouver is the Worst 100% ignorant rude snobby attitude won’t even hold a door open and you’re right behind them how fuking ignorant is that? Believe Me I still say thanks just to make them feel like an idiot with no respect. But on that note their are good people still n this world. I may get shit or called names for pointing this out but my opinion it’s mostly the people that Come here from other Countries now became a Canadian but with out following the Canadian way unfortunately. Many that come across the borders illegally but allowed to stay is another problem Justin Trudeau created big time. Again in Halifax My experience 90 % were very respectful and polite. Help you if needed. No issues PEI was on another level years back, people were so so friendly especially driving the back roads as I call it off the main highway from Summerside to Charlottetown, people driving waving 👋 at you you wave back that’s the way it was friendly no matter where on PEI WAS LIKE EVERYONE Respected 100% , a little story I’m driving from Charlottetown on my way to catch the last Ferry ⛴ to Get back to Nova Scotia I had to pick up a bag of Spuds 🥔 for my uncle. I’m driving I’m almost at the ferry I realize damn I forgot the spuds I’m driving bam there is a Hut 🛖 on the side of the road which is very common for many fruits vegetables etc, anyways I stop lots of bags of spuds small to extra large 50 pound bags right a sign 🪧 with pricing I call out hello hello I thought they must be in the Hut sitting down nope was full of bags of spuds 🥔 and a Ice cream container with coins 🪙 and bills 💵 full to the top. A sign saying help you’re self and please be kind and leave you’re payment in the bucket take change as needed. WOW I did exactly that. No one in site not even a farm house 🏡 that I could see. I actually lived there at that time only for a summer but that was my first experience picking up spuds on the side of the highway to the ferry. But back then everyone or most people never even locked 🔒 their doors at night leave keys in the vehicles that’s what TRUST IS BUT OUR COUNTRY HAS GONE TO HELL. People are on edge stuck up rude ignorant selfish no respect for other people or their belongings or anything most not all. But it’s true the more they Open the Borders the worse it gotten, if you want to argue this point bring it on. So I’m not really surprised anymore that even my own Town where I grew up has gone to shit. Sad very very sad. I remember as a kid we hitchhike a ride people pick you up some drive you out of there way to make sure you got to your destination safely. True story I’ve also done it for people even in BC. I used to back in the 90’s pick up strangers go out of my way to get them to their destination if of course wasn’t miles away. I let people stay at my home over night feed them cook breakfast 🍳 in the morning drop them off to a freeway so they could finish their Journey. Yes there are good people still but but it’s not even close what Canada was. It’s truly shameful how bad Canadians got over the years believe me most are not True Canadian because True Canadians don’t STAB OR SHOOT PEOPLE ON THE STREETS OR THROWING HOT COFFEE ☕️ IN THEIR FACE OR SPIT IN THER FACES OR STEAL YOUR CAR OR BREAK N YOUR HOME OR ROBBING YOU IN A PARKING LOT OR KILLING YOUR DOG 🐕 IN THE YARD OR MAN THE LIST GOES ON M VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED WHAT CANADA IS TODAY. ITS TRULY ASHAME WHAT SCUM LIVE IN THIS COUNTY NOW. OK OK ILL STOP BUT YOU GET MY POINT I EVEN HAD SO CALLED FRIENDS THROUGH OUT BC WHO SCREWED ME OVER FOR THOUSANDS BUT OTS NOT ALL PEOPLE IN BC, ITS A FEW WHO SEE AN EASY TARGET A PERSON WHO WAS RAISED TO GIVE YOUR SHIRT OFF YOUR BACK TO PEOPLE WHO NEEDED IT MORE. When people see you have such a big heart ❤️ you’re done they are now you’re enemy. Yes scum bags you thought you could trust, once again it’s sad what happened to our Country watch you’re back because there is always another waiting to take advantage of you. This is one reason true Canadians I think lost their way with being nice or as open as they used to be because people lost all respect for others. It’s partly the mixed culture from Third world countries that have zero respect for our Country and how we lived with freedom now that freedom isn’t freedom anymore just take a look around you’re City you’re town you’re neighborhood watch the news TV OR KZread You will see how bad this Country has gotten just they last few years and getting worse by the day. So long story short it sounds like it truly don’t matter where you live these days you will always run into an evil person a disrespectful person a low life who hates seeing others doing better then them, then Canada has a major Drug issue across Canada just like USA OTHER COUNTRIES THE DRUGS POURING IN ACROSS-THE BORDERS. OK I BETTER STOP OR ILL HAVE NOTHING LEFT FOR MY BOOK 📖 IM WRITING ON HOW TRUDEAU FUKED 🇨🇦

I'm a nurse looking to move there potentially from the UK and I know going for work is a lot different than University as it's simply more difficult to make connections and friendships as an adult. Thanx for this video. I want to go to Halifax for living but i am worried, i have heard that their health care system is very slow, people do not get their family doctor even after 3/4 years? And whenever it faced hard strom and wind, most of the time electricity got disconnected for many days, is it true? Please answer, your answer will be valuable for me.

  • @privatename8228

    @privatename8228

    Yes it is true that it is very difficult to get a family doctor in Halifax and all of Nova Scotia. It can take a few years. But once you have your health card indicating you're a resident of Nova Scotia, you can go to a walk-in clinic and see a doctor so you won't be without care. With regard to losing electricity after bad storms, yes that does happen. Most times you get your power back the same day, but if it is a severe storm it will be longer. I live in Halifax and have only been without electricity 1-2 times in 6 years. Some neighborhoods are worse than others for some reason.
