I had not done any laundry in a week. My husband and kids were "helping" but they do it differently and it was a mess. While watching this video I managed to bring it back to order. I put all the clean towels and blankets in the bathroom closet, took most of the clean laundry to the rooms, empty the dryer, sweep the floor and started a load. I need to do a load per day and put it away to keep it manageable.

I’ve changed my meal planning technique. I now just have a list, not even necessarily in order, of 4 meals I’d like to make that week to be sure I have my ingredients. I typically make double what my family needs and freeze left overs in serving size increments so that on the busy nights, we pull what we want for dinner out of the freezer

Hi Joyful Homemaker! May I ask how you store the individual servings in the freezer? My Mom always froze this and that, but now I'm finding out it's not always as straightforward as I'm expecting! I followed instructions to chop up a celery and lay it flat in a gallon Freezer slider bag, but when I thawed it out to use it, it was limp and watery. I want to freeze leftovers like spaghetti or whatever, but I'm scared I'll ruin it and we barely scrape by so I can't afford to experiment right now. If I were to freeze individual servings in plastic containers, that would get expensive. Any suggestions?

It is easier to clean that way. The same thing with the bathroom. The less stuff I have on the counters, the easier it is. I recently put a basket over the toilet for my kids to put all their stuff in there. Hope it helps.

I like that you mention in various videos that homemaking can be mundane at times. Repetitive jobs sometimes can make it seem like you are not making any progress. That is a part of it but it does change and then you feel differently. I have stumbled onto photos from the 70’s. Nothing in a home was perfect in those days. Also my kids were in bed by 7. Yes SEVEN. They didn't have to sleep but they went down. Those 2 habits plus naps saved my sanity. My 18 year old got upset that she was being told to take a nap (she's grown, you know), I told her to take a book in there and lie down. She was knocked out 10 min later. LOL. Naps for everyone - me included! Laundry was sorted using of each (blue/black/white) laundry baskets and as my children stripped down for baths, they learned to sort their clothes. Hang everything that is hangable. When get up, smooth the sheets and make the bed. Cooking was 2 crock pots on rotation. One cooking the other waiting in the fridge.

I didn’t have the distractions of KZread, social media etc in my days and I think that plays a huge part in people life’s now. I watch these videos now, because I have the time! 10 years ago I wouldn’t I’d have had family meals to cook, housework or laundry to do. I had to plan, plan and plan some more. One of my daughter in law’s is always complaining about not having enough time to do this or that, but I also know she spends hours every day on social media. Not working doing videos etc just watching and making herself feel bad because she hasn’t done all the things that she sees others doing. One day she will realise that those hours she wastes on social media are the time she has to do all the things. I hope so any way. I use also a lot more social media then before I had my kid, and I think a lot comes from a feeling of overwhelm - and no real outlet to that. I used to read books, but I feel I don't have the consecutive, uninterrupted hours to immerse myself in a story, and not the mental capacity to deal with all my challenges at once. I think once those are sorted out, getting housework organised will be way easier. What I am trying to say is, maybe using social media (excessively) is a sign of someone struggling, and that needs to be addressed before the time can be used in a more productive way...

That is what I miss about older stove, that you could take the stovetop apart and wash everything. We have a newish one and they are so sensitive and things burn or stick. Anyways, thanks for the video. People have no idea anymore what a difference a mom at home makes. Once my sister and I were grow we realized how much we wished our mom had been at home when we got home from school.

Great video! I so agree. I just can’t imagine not having enough time in the day to get the basics done. Yes my family is raised, but through those years we made it work. We never had a “disaster” home. We had a few rules, and it made everything go pretty smooth. We didn’t have social media to get ideas from. You walked into your girlfriend’s house and said, “so how do you keep the kids toys organized?” Or “can I look in your hall closet and see how you organized it?” That’s how we learned new things. We would have a school cookbook every few years, and only the best of the best gets out in there, so they were total winners. I still cook some of them today! But women need to know, if there isn’t enough time, especially for the SAHM, they might want to consider looking deeper into their habits and routines. There is always a way. Baby steps! They’ll get there.

You are so right about not being able to shortcut some chores. I used to let them bother me and now I just turn on music or an audiobook and get them done. We do meal plan, though. For a month! We are on the same menu for a 5th month and still love it-never tempted to eat out instead. One less decision to make ❤

When I was growing up (in the 50's) and my parents were going thru very stressful/financial/health time. We had certain meals on certain days, Mother would change it up a bit on Sunday, but we knew what the other days would be. It took so much stress off her to just know what the meal would be and we girls could get it started when we got home from school. You are right, take as much stress off yourself as you can in those child-rearing years. Really enjoy your videos.

Something you don’t talk about much in your videos (that I envy you for) is that you and your family (for the most part) eat REAL food. You don’t have all the antibiotics, hormones, pesticides and fake ingredients like most of the population. You can see it on your face…your skin is so healthy. I bet that your kids won’t have to deal with with ADHD and all of these other mental health problems out there due to the ingestion of harmful things in our food. People really should pay more attention to this. I bet if I were to spend a month on your farm, eating the food you do, I would feel like a totally different person. As it is, I feel awful after I eat a meal, which is my own fault. I have no energy and don’t feel like doing much. I am going to make changes by making my own sauerkraut and keeffer for starters. Kudos to you…I’m proud of you! ❤

I am at a different season of life with grown up children and almost grown up grandchildren, but my biggest challenge when I was "in the trenches" wasn't time but energy. I would just run out of steam before I was done with even the basics on some days. I do think your advice to not be too much of a perfectionist is good, and I suspect that tendency may have contributed to my fatigue. In any case, I enjoy your videos so much, and even at my age, I always learn something useful and helpful.

I’m loving your channel even though I’m no longer raising a family. Such good advice for people that are 'in the trenches'. I am in a season now where I can piddle around and spend more time on things but back in the day, just getting things done was 'perfect' enough. One thing I notice, even now, is that when I see something that needs to be done instead of putting it off I guess how long it will take to just do it. Sometimes it literally takes 2 minutes to just handle something and then its out of your mind. I also really like to write lists and cross things off, I can't stand having a running to do list in my head~ if it's on paper its less stressful for some reason. And yeah, bleach is a strong chemical but sometimes its necessary to get something really clean.

I love your videos. I follow you as well as Pine and Prospect Home and Minimal mom. I will be looking up some other channels you have mentioned. I’ve never had problems keeping up with laundry and had hired a housekeeper that cleaned my house a couple of times. I thought I needed her bc I worked full time with 4 children. I didn’t want her to see my house dirty so I cleaned before she came. That’s when I realized I didn’t need her. With 6 people living in our home, I decided we could all do our part to keep the house clean. So we set some rules and never really had a problem afterwards. I’ve been decluttering and I feel so much better
