Honestly, I'm Indian and have no love for the British monarchy but I cried watching all the shorts about her last night. Videos of her with her father, mother and sister. I don't care who you are those do touch the heart. Not to mention her moments with her daughter and her grand kids. And then them standing vigil. It made me cry, made me think of the the time i lost my grandmother.

I'm sure it was the same for your mom, it's sometimes hard to see that through your own pain in the moment. I will not judge people sentiments towards their queen, I've never had a monarch or anyone I held in that regard. However, I said the sentiments of her family and her relationship with she had with her family, who are all also dead touched me. How alone she would've felt when her parents and sister died and then when her husband of more than 70 years died, made me emotional. Looking at Anne standing over her mother's body brought to my mind my mother at my grandma's cremation ceremony. I do not care about the grandeur and pomp and ceremony of the thing, that's protocol.

A lot of us Brits are a bit over sensitive at the moment, but your jokes were very funny - however I will take exception to one - The Queen was an incredibly hard working monarch, even a few days before her death she was doing her royal duties. It's one of the reasons she was personally more popular than the institute of the monarchy itself.

The only two reasons I can think of why anyone would queue for 20+ hours to see a person lying in state is either because that person had played a big part in their own lives OR, most likely, so that they can say for the rest of their lives that they´ve done so. After all, you don´t get to see a monarch with a 70 year reign lying in state very often.

I agreed that I don't see the reason for sadness but instead a celebration of a long life, well lived. but to the british it's sentimental. The ignory is that it think no one except maybe Prince Phillip really knew who or what she really believed in .
