Years ago I read an article. (Back when articles were on paper) and it was talking about trends in cosmetic surgery. What was interesting was they noticed that “career women” invested in facelifts. Whereas “housewives” got boob jobs. They said that they noticed that women in the workforce invested in looking youthful so they could compete with younger colleagues. The article said housewives invested in breast implants and liposuction because they would need to attract a man for marriage if the were to be divorced or widowed. This video made me think about that. If a woman is able to attract a desirable mate or a woman is able to get a job she is qualified for, then I guess there are long term returns on “beauty”. However, like with any investments, one needs to diversify. For example, while healing from that surgery take some CEUs or work on conversation starters so you may increase your options for finding mates.

And most of the time people dont try to get to know you in this world if you are not attractive. Also can i say my 90 year old grandma still gets pretty privledge when we walk down the street. Even young men are like your grandma is so cute and they still want to give her free things Lollollol She was a housewife and never had to work always had maids. My grandma's widowed 80 year old friend got married quickly to a wealthy man because she was the pretty girl that got away when they were in High School. I know many miserable unattractive broke women who are highly educated and overworked. While my grandma and her pretty friends always rested in their feminity. Get an education and a career as a fallback, but consistently level up your beauty as high as you can. However if you can only level up to a 5 you better stay in school and become a surgeon or something..... Men feel that if they are working hard to provide they should wake up to a pretty face next to them in the morning. You need to inspire a man to work hard for you and provide. People don't hire or buy products and services from the very unattractive. Just being honest.

I think the comments holding onto "beauty is a good investment-just shouldnt be the only investment" miss the fact that beauty is inherently a Depreciating Asset. Thats why its a bad investment. Its also SO fluid. Sure- clear skin healthy hair and straight clean teeth are seen as the bare marker for respectability. But beauty in the context of strong social currency is only valuable for thise who have Time and Money (which buys the time tbh). Also worth noting that im busted and working class. But I still have make up that I bust out when I travel and clothes that I wear every once in a while when i go out. I participate in the politics of beauty (poorly!), but i recognize that major investment in my looks is also a major gamble since I have a lot more to lose if it doesnt work out.

Its not a bad investment, it just should not be your ONLY investment. It opens doors and gives you access people without would have to work 5X harder and longer to attain. Its a useful tool that can be used and leveraged to set you up where whatever else you bring to the table can be maximized. Also, people underestimate beautiful people which makes it easier for them to fly under the radar in plain sight and make moves no one would ever see coming. Its like Rihanna, we all know she got that record contract for her beauty and marketability first and foremost... segued it into a top tier music career now she is basically a billionaire, set for life.

@@TomikaKelly Agree to disagree. I think a significant amount of what is considered "beautiful", especially throughout a lifetime, is tied to health. Of course there are other societal standards that shift and change over time like having a big butt or boobs. But it's scientifically proven that engaging in healthy habits, like exercising, eating healthy, keeping your stress levels low, getting a good amount of sleep, and not using a significant amount of drugs all make people objectively more attractive to others. Of course there are people that engage in only healthy habits like diet and exercise that aren't considered beautiful by society. But for the most part, the actions that will be the most likely to make you more attractive into old age are also the ones that keep you healthy. I think it comes down to your definition of beauty. Mine is long term on the scale of decades and therefore is closely tied to health. If yours isn't, then that's okay. But I disagree that eating healthy and exercising won't help most women. It would absolutely would make most women more beautiful. By societal standards and by objective standards.

I think your point is clear *but* you have to admit that wording it as beauty is a "bad" investment instead of saying what you said in this video --that it has limiting social currency and shouldn't be what anyone bases their whole life on is far better wording. But the problem I still see is that (I think) that video came out when you were feuding with the feminity ladies and so it can come off as a dishonest rebutle to an argument they never made (and one I don't think really anyone makes). Most people who talk about investing in beauty also talk about charm, charisma, improving social skills, becoming more cultured, etc. in order to elevate one's self. Also, of all the investments one can make beauty remains of the most important. Is there a better investment in terms of social currency? Not really. Several studies show beauty/attractiveness being one of the main reasons people get ahead in life.

To all the comments that are replying saying "well why are you wearing makeup and nails then", there's a difference in the internal vs external investment of beauty. The external is investing in beauty to gain that fleeting social power, whereas the internal is investing in beauty to express one's own style and taste. As someone who struggles with insecurities regarding how I perceive myself and how others perceive me, it can be hard to separate whether a personal beauty investment is internally based or external based, but there is a difference between the two.

BBL’s and certain face procedures like buccal fat removal are good examples of beauty being a bad investment. However, I believe in being the best version of myself at all times for myself. So I invest in my beauty through my skin care. I’ve always had a skin care routine since I was 13 because of my acne. However, it wasn’t until the height of the pandemic, that I realized how therapeutic my skincare routine really was. I felt this instance sense of calm in the middle of chaos. Once I started adding in weekly diy manuka honey and aloe Vera masks to reduce my acne scars, it began feeling like I a mini spa day. My skin care routine became my favorite part of my routine and still remains my favorite part of my morning and evening routine. For some women, a reasonable investment in beauty is an investment in their mental health and well-being.

She realized the man she was with would be absolutely disgusted with her if she stopped the speed and returned to a larger body. She ended up leaving him because she felt he never really loved her. Happiness always makes women more attractive. There is great power in a woman’s beauty, youth, femininity, and fertility. So weird when people say this. Sports works the same way…you invest while it works for you and use whatever you have as leverage. You can use sports, modeling, etc while your young and also invest in education, travel…. Also beauty is a great investment because when you don’t start investing in yourself young when you get older it may become more difficult. Take care of your hair early, skin, learn what clothing works for your body. Travel to other countries. I was just in Paris & London. These women 50+ look simple and stunning because they take are of themselves If you don’t want to, don’t! But it’s a good investment
