I grew up on bean salad. The one ingredient we put in our bean salad was celery seeds. It just added that special taste. Love your show!

My mom always made this kidney bean salad during the summer time. She never added eggs though. It is so much better after it sits for a bit. One of my favorite things my mom made.

My Momma always made bean salad along with either ham salad, chicken salad or tuna salad sandwiches and potato salad when we would go on road trips and stop for a picnic lunch. She made hers like this one, with the exception of using sweet pickle relish instead of the green bell pepper and sugar. I still make it the same way she did and everyone loves it, she even has me make it for her now. 😊 I will have to try it this way one of these days, thanks for sharing the recipe!

I'm from Ohio and grew up eating kidney bean salad. It was similar to Mark's. Mom used kidney beans, onion, hard-boiled eggs, sweet relish, and Miracle Whip. Sweet memories!

This was really good I made it the other day, I think it would be great in the summer for a get together. Thanks to the man who sent it in, a keeper for sure. I had my doubts about the little bit of mayo but it works.

I really have liked beans since I was young. Three bean salad was the first, a salad like this, and now I've found Cowboy Caviar, Georgia Caviar, 5 can salad and the rest. I love them all. Beans are a super food!

This is one of my Mommas favorites. We had it for a summer time salad. Momma always added yellow mustard and also diced Baby Gerkins. Yum.

I love this kind of bean salad. I have a best friend who likes it, so when I think she needs a little pick me up I make her some of this!

My mom made that same recipe, except she only used kidney beans. I almost forgot about this, but will make now that you reminded me about this delicious easy salad.

I make my bean salad with light ranch or light zesty Italian. It's still very good!!

Us too. My mom lost A LOT of weight in the 60s and she existed on 3 bean salad, cottage cheese, and tuna. LOL

I watched this when it first came out. I made sure I had all of the ingredients. Talk about prep. I am a bit slow when it comes to chopping, dicing, etc. So, when I was able to, I did the prep and finished it all today! It tastes great! Thank you and thank Mark. My mom would make bean salad, but it was a bit different than this one.

My mom used to make this when I was a kid. I don't remember her putting sugar in it though. I think she either chopped up sweet pickles or used sweet relish instead. It's been years since I've had it, and I think I'm going to throw it together as a side for Christmas or New Years dinner. She loved dishes like this that were super easy and cheap to put together but could be filling as well. Bean salad, potato salad, and macaroni salad were always getting made, and she made some kind of dish out of wild rhubarb that grew in our garden too. That and her pineapple upside down cake were always hits.

I remember bean salad from my many years of going to Baptist Church dinners...it was the one dish that was never eaten....every time you went back in line to get more food the bean salad bowl was always full....who ever brought it always took home a full bowl....lol

My mom made Kidney Bean salad too, with sweet pickles added. It is yummy.

My dad used to make it too. I still make it today after 60 years. The only difference is I use only red kidney beans, I don’t drain them. Also, instead of sugar, I use about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of sweet relish. Delicious side dish with barbecue. Its one of those dishes best to make ahead. Better the next day. 😋

I remember this. You MUST have the egg. Its even better after flabors blend. However my mom also made 3 bean salad which many people liked. I hated it! Wax beans, shellie beans, and green beans, and onion in a seasoned oil and vinegar dressing. Very liquidy. Many people like it tho. Ill stick to the mayo and egg recipe. I never knew anyone else that ever made it, and actually had forgotten about it. I WILL be making some to share with the youngers who havent tried it!

For these types of "salad" I love using previously frozen onion and green pepper- a lot of grocery stores have them in the frozen food section. They still have that raw uncooked flavor, but with a little less of the "fresh crunch" texture that can stand out/dominate dishes like this; plus they're pre-prepped and ready to go for whatever you desire! They are a staple in my freezer whenever I get the chance to stock up.

My mom made this bean salad and it was delious. Mom never added onions as one sister wouldn't eat onion. Aldo never green peppers. When we lived in Chicago, we went to White FemcevFarm restaurant and they served this as an appatizer. Yes she added boiled eggs, but no sugar.

My Momma used to make this! She called it Kidney Bean Salad. I think she added a little bit of French dressing to it as well!

My Momma used to make a three bean salad. Similar, but no mayo. She did add onion, but it was a vinegar base with the touch of sugar and other veg as you might have on hand such as cucumber. Love you guys, happy Thanksgiving and God bless.

Chopped sweet pickles sounds like a great addition. I don’t eat eggs and am thinking they could be swapped out for chopped walnuts. Would also use plain Greek yogurt instead of mayo.

We ate an awful lot of beans growing up but I have never seen this recipe. Will definitely be trying this next week. Looks good and on budget. Thank you.

I still make it once in a while! I love it, my husband likes it and his brother adores it. Their mama often had it at holiday meals, picnics or just regular meals. My kids, not fans of it at all. Love seeing this, Tammy!
