Rosewood is possibly the most roaring tone wood that we use in drums. It's incredibly loud. And when it's done well, like with this Tama 14x8" Artwood Rosewood-ply snare drum, then you get one heck of an instrument too! Nine thin plies of gorgeous veneer, which look just as good inside the drum as they do on the outside, make up this big boy snare. The top-notch Japanese craftsmanship shines through in every element of the drum too - from the shell to the throw off and the rest of the hardware too. The drum set in this video is a 1987 Yamaha Recording Custom in hot red finish. The sizes include a 22x14" kick drum, 12x8" and 13x9" toms, and a 16x16" floor tom. I've also got Turkish Cymbals going here too - 15" Millennium hats, 20" Meta Crash, 22" Millennium Ride, and a 24" Prototype Special Dry Extra Thin Ride.
Audio was captured with two Universal Audio Apollo x8p interfaces using 1073 preamp modeling. Mics include:
- SE Electronics V-Kick (Kick In)
- Dr. Alien Smith Alien8 (Kick Out)
- Shure Unidyne III SM57 (Snare Top)
- Rode NT55 w/ Cardioid Capsule (Snare Top)
- Audio-Technica ATM650 (Snare Bottom)
- Sennheiser MD-421 (Each Tom)
- AKG C414 TLII Pair (Overheads)
- Apex 210B Ribbon into Soyuz Launcher (Room)
- Shure 588SB (Vocal)
I use Logic Pro X, Waves Audio plugins, and I really need a nap...like right now.

Awesome Video, really fun hot take of a beautiful snare. I worked at Hoshino back in the 90’s and we had one kicking around the warehouse. I begged them to let me buy it but got shot down. Then Dave Grohl came through and fell in love with it and got to take it home. I’m still salty

Hi I'm Bobby Bingis I was sent here by my friend Barnaby Bornaboy, I was told you're a cool drummer with goofy shirts. I can certainly confirm you are indeed, a cool drummer with goofy shirts. Also I dig your drums with the coated resonant heads, I've recently done the same with mine, they punch in quick and get out quick. Have you ever tried an Evans Emad on a 16" floor tom yet? Tune her low for some thumpy fun especially when you mic it with a compressor.

lol Bobby Bingus! Hi Dan. Thanks for stopping by. I haven't tried the EMAND on the kick yet. Are you talking about using that on the batter or the resonant side? Either way, I'm intrigued!

So Evans makes their traditional Emad head with a built in adjustable dampening ring for kick drums. You can also get one for a 16" floor tom batter which is fun to use as a secondary kick but keep in mind if you look for one online in has to be a tom hoop instead of a kick drum hoop. If you google it type in Evans EMAD Clear Drumhead - 16 inch - Tom Hoop. There's also some videos here of it being played. I used one for a few months and the sound engineers at venues loved my floor tom due to it's punch but lack of nasty overtones. @@timbofromkeno

I appreciate the kind words AND the feedback. It’s a balance, right? I don’t do sound replacement or quantizing because it feels too fake to me, but I want my production to sound modern enough that folks understand what these things can do in a studio setting. Maybe one day, when I have way more time on my hands, I’ll make even more demo videos that feature very simple miking and very little processing. Say a little prayer that this channel grows and allows me to do so, and we’ll both get what we want! 😂❤️👊
