    Decided to give this a try.....learned something very quickly on the side dismount (with left foot on left side footpeg).... if you are trying this on a GS or any bike with a center stand with legs that fold upwards......wear riding pants that snug on the bottom, or pants that are tight around your boots!..... You don't want to wear jeans with enough room for the center stand leg to get caught INSIDE the right pant leg as you place your feet down when stopping....ask me how I know.....

    Gary Sutherland hey Gary! Thanks for watching. The 750GS is a great bike, but you may find the 1200/1250 is easier to ride, (especially off road). Believe me, I don’t go walking into the BMW dealership saying, “give me the biggest bike you have on the sales floor!” 😆 lol I chose the 1200/1250 because the balance, the torque, the smoothness of the motor.... it’s like cheating. Please let me know when you ride one, especially off road, I’m excited to see what you find. Thanks for watching and subscribing, I really appreciate it!

    A great way to learn to step and roll is to practice on a bicycle. I did a lot of bicycle riding for most of my life. Including mountain riding. We often used a step mountain. Yes it is not the same as a bicycle is not as heavy and so on, but it allows you to learn to balance and mount the bicycle as you roll forward. Trust me it works. Here are a couple of also great videos that I highly recommend with some great tips for short riders: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gaOjmst_c6qffZM.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/oYN4m7CnhMjceJM.html

    Hello Connie! When I was learning how to properly ride these larger adventure bikes, I was on the ground quite often. By the time I started to teach myself the step up I had already been riding the adventure bikes for a few years. In my training classes, I coach riders on how to do this technique, if they request it. Typically, a student drops the bike a couple times and then is successful. Its possible, without proper instruction, a rider may fail many times until they get it. If you are trying this, don’t give up, stick with it and once you get it, it’s just keeps getting easier. I will add to my list to make a video that gives instruction on exactly how to do these techniques. Best of luck and thanks for watching!

    Hey Jocelyn, thanks for taking the time to make these! Do you ever reverse the bike while sitting on it, like for parking? Or do you just hop off?

  • @JocelinSnow

    @JocelinSnow

    3 жыл бұрын

    James H thank you, it’s been my pleasure doing these. When I do park, if there is an incline, I’ll point the bike up, knowing I can roll down when it’s time to go. Pushing the bike backwards with one foot while slid off the seat it possible, but it is slow going and uses lots of energy. If I do it, I’m usually panting like a dog and have to catch my breath. Haha if I’m not on an incline, I usually swallow my pride and push the bike back and in position while off it. I think that’s better than dumping the bike over in the parking lot, especially now-a-days when someones smart phone camera can be quickly used to document the situation. Lol But, at least after you’ve pushed the bike into position, you can do the right foot step up, and gain that respect back of observers. 😆 basically, I suggest whichever method you have the most control and balance of the bike. ...thanks for watching!

    If it works for anyone, then that's all that counts. But, you have to realize that, if ANYTHING goes wrong during a rolling mount or dismount, i.e. the clutch lever slips out ones hand, the throttle is triggered a bit too much due to an incorrect angle of handling it from an awkward position AND MOVING, your foot that you're depending on get's off camber a bit and a few other things. Again, if it works for you, great. And, what do you do at STOP LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS? What if you get caught in stop and go traffic? What happens if you don't have level ground to take off on, i.e. down in a rutted/hilly area? What happens if your bigger bike decides it needs a nap and you're too small to pick it up and do another running or rolling start? These are just some things that could potentially happen. For *perfect* conditions, I can see it working. For less than perfect conditions, well, hmmmm. Scott

  • @JocelinSnow

    @JocelinSnow

    Жыл бұрын

    I understand your viewpoint. I’ve used this method in all types of conditions and terrain, ruts, hills, rocks, sand, loaded bike and not. I’ve used it at street lights as well. It takes practice. I’m not demonstrating this as the only way to mount a tall bike but more of an option, and usually when the conditions are ideal. I can pick up the bike if it falls, I recommend that if a rider can not pick up the bike solo then they should ride with a friend and not take risks that would most likely result in a tip over. Thank you for your comment and your concern. All the best.

    when I tried this move, at the moment of starting rolling the bike, and I am stepping on the peg, I feel the bike is going to lay tours my side

    Try positioning your body more over the center of the bike and slightly angle the bike away from you. It needs to be one swift movement to step up on the peg and get into balance. Don’t give up, you can do it!

    I have done this technique in traffic. I think it’s fins as long as you have practiced enough that you are in complete control. Of course, expect passengers in vehicles to film you with their cell phones lol it happens

    Hey Jocelin, love the videos! I have a question though: is there a reason or a situation you want to use right foot start versus left foot start? Or is it merely preference?

    Kate Bonczek Coit hi Kate! Thank you! There really isn’t any reason to use one foot over another, but practicing both ways helps build more confidence while taming the beast. It also will help with other exercises that I’ll bring up in future videos. Thanks for watching!

    Usually, I slide off the seat to get one foot down. However, there have been times when I’ve had to ride someone’s bike, or a demo bike, that is extremely tall, and too tall to slide off the seal for one foot down. In that case I do step off and stand next to the bike and step back on when the light turns green. I’m sure somewhere, someone has that on video lol.

    Hello! It takes some practice. Begin with the bike slightly leaned away from you, when you step up, step up quickly and slightly over the tank (rather than over the peg) and push off with your other foot while accelerating with the throttle. Don’t give up! Good luck!

    I'd like to try doing this but I'm likely to drop my bike while getting the hang of it :( I did test ride a bike which was too big for me, and I planned the route really carefully. The 2 stops I had to make were fine as I knew when they were coming and what to do, but if I had needed to brake hard and stop unexpectedly I would probably have dropped the bike as I could not get a foot down without a big lean which i couldn't hold. Why are bikes so much taller these days than they used to be?

  • @JocelinSnow

    @JocelinSnow

    It certainly takes some practice. I spend many, many hours working on the stop. I almost jump off the seat to get the one foot down and cradle the seat under my knee, so the bike stays upright. With some practice, it gets easier. I suppose the height of these bikes is because the manufacturers feel they need the ground clearance to clear obstacles and help keep the bike moving and handling properly in rough terrain. ...thanks for watching 😁
