I am a 6' 1" R1200GS Adventure rider and I have ridden with many GSA riders that are significantly shorter than I am. I always tell people that if they really want to ride a GS/GSA they will find a way. You prove that point. Awesome!
Im 5'9in with 28inch inseam, 123kgs & still complain that I will never be able ride the 1250GSA comfortable enough without the low frame. This lady makes me feel like a fool watching her handle these beast with ease. Keep it up Jocelin Snow. I'm definitely looking for your next episodes, much to learn. Cheers From the island on Malta.
You are my hero!! I’m 5’8” and I struggle to up-right my GS. I learned more from your episode 1 video than I have through my own experimentation or input from other riders. ❤

Hello dear jocelin, thank you for your many tips. I am 152 centimeters tall, I got myself a BMW R 1250 GS and I asked myself: what have I done? 🙈🙈🙈 I've been riding motorcycles for 5 years but I'm back to square one with the BMW. I am already more confident in handling this heavy motorcycle and cried, from so much joy. Thank you very much 😘😘😘

OMG -- someone just invent a remote retractor button for the side stand please! My hips would be so thrashed if I was doing the gymnastics required for this. I will have to start training to achieve the flexibility and strength. It is very beautiful and masterful, seeing you work with what you got. Amazing.
I'm 5'1", 93lbs lady...dreamed about riding motorbikes and just do what the big guys do. I've been told by everyone in the family that I will never be able to do any of those because of my size. So far, I've shown them that I can, in fact do well in rock climbing...handle and shoot large pistols/rifles better than most people.....and now I will learn to ride a bike. Thank you for letting me know that it can be done.

Great video Jocelin! I'm a 5'1/2" male rider and the GS 1250 is one of my favourite bikes.......but I opted to get the GS 700 (suspension lowered model). I'm feeling a lot more confident about getting the "big rig" thanks to you! Thank you for your excellent videos. :)
Notice that Jocelyn is fit and limber. It helps her execute the skills she uses to overcome the challenges of a tall bike. But if we practice we also get more fit and limber I imagine.
Hi, I’ve been riding on and off for a little over 30 years. At the same height as you, I’ve always felt the need to stick to bikes where I can stand flat footed astride. Thank you Jocelin, you are a true inspiration for all of us less tall women! 😍

Awesome video Jocelin. Very helpful for us newbie riders. Thank you so much for sharing.... Waiting for more 🥰.. much love.
Thanks for sharing this amazing video and your valuable experience! Thanks for starting to share knowledge!
In my opinion it is a question of self confidence, too. I ride an old r 100 gs PD from 89. When I rode to croatia it was very heavy because I carried too much luggage. So it was hard to get up and down for me, so it fell down. You know I pushed 110 kg on the Bench, so I am not a weak man, so I could get it up... but since it felt the first time it was in my head and so it felt 3 more times, that day...at the following night I couldn't sleep very well. But I don't know how, maybe because I talked to God, I managed to get this thought out of my head and the rest of the 10 days Holiday Trip she didn't fall anymore. I Wish you all merry xmas and a lot of adventures on your motorbikes. Take care...

Thanks for this series of videos Jocelin. I'm on the shorter side myself (5' 6") and mounting and holding the bigger, heavier bikes can be daunting sometimes, so these instructions are super-useful. As I sell bikes, I sometimes have customers who have never ridden a bike before who are scared to even get on the bike, or are worried they are too short to ride them, so I have shared them to my Facebook page in order to help them in these areas.

I'm so excited I found your channel. I'm a new rider (5'5" with a 29" inseam) so definitely not the shortest out there but still not able to flat foot on my bike (Kawasaki Versys-X 300). I know my bike is DEFINITELY manageable for me but I am still developing skills and confidence so it is SO inspiring to see other shorter female riders out there sharing techniques for becoming more comfortable riding a bike that isn't a cruiser with a super short seat height. Kari Post, Thank you for your message! I’m so glad you found my channel too. I remember when I first started riding I had so many questions and a lot of things about the bike were intimidating. Your Kawasaki Versys is a great bike! I think short or tall, new or seasoned rider, we can all improve our riding with more confidence. I think episodes 2 and 3 will be more useful for you than episode 1. I have episode 4 and 5 in the works and I think you will like those as well. As a new rider, I’m proud of you and excited for you! Stick with it, in time the fear will fade and be replaced by fun, and soon you will discover the true “joy of motorcycles” that you hear everyone talk about. Hello and please forgive my english. You definitely are a smart rider. I'm 175cm tall (5ft.8in), not very short but sure, not tall and your tips are great value for all riders, not just the shorter ones! A friend of mine asked me for tips. Taught her one foot standing and 2-3 other tips but it was not sufficient... So i've had to think/search for more... and not so easy to put myself in her shoes. Thanksfully, I found your channel and this is great. I have a question about the side stand. Why do you start with your right foot? You have to "fly over" (is that the right term?) twice - push with right leg, fly over the seat, quick the side stand, fly over again and put back your right leg. Is it possible to start with the left leg on the ground, just push, quick that side stand back and recover the safe ground under your left foot ? May be i'm not short enough to but i can't figure out why it would not be possible. I have to precise that i'm injured (and in a wheel chair for some more weeks) so i haven't tried yet.
@JocelinSnow

Thank you for your message, and for sharing these videos with your friends. I’m assuming you are referring to the kickstand dive. I’ve found that if the left foot is on the ground then too much weight is on the left and so lifting the left foot to quickly grab the side stand can result in a tip over, (for short riders with shirt inseams) I hope this helps. So sorry to hear you are in a wheelchair. I wish you a speedy recovery. All the best!
The last mishap I had was trying to make a u turn on a steep hill with busted up pavement. Dumb but I had no choice. Once the front wheel touched the lip of a hole it was like I jammed the front brake with the bars turned to the right. That leaned me over the hill side and down I went. 500 bucks in damage only but embarrassing and miserable feeling. Right away I started thinking bikes (GS) too tall. Whenever I get in that place I just have to watch your vids and realize I have to get better.
@JocelinSnow
3 жыл бұрын
Arthur B that sounds like a difficult maneuver, regardless of a riders height. Sometimes I think it may be best to assess the situation, calculate the risk, (in this case the risk over the steep hill, with chunky pavement,) and make a good judgment call. I think I would have swallowed my pride, dismounted the bike and walked it in the turn. But who can say, I wasn’t there. I have found myself on the ground in similar situations. At first, I just want to blame the bike, it’s tall, it’s heavy, maybe it wouldn’t have happened with a smaller bike, but then after more thought I realize it’s the rider, and I need to work on my skills. I’m always working on my skills, and I still fall too. I admire you for sticking with it, proud of you for not giving up, and believe that you can conquer terrain such as this with more practice. Thank you for your comment, and for watching. 😁🤗

May be too small for you, but I highly recommend this boot for shorter female riders with size 5-8 feet. Hi Jocelin, I am looking for advice, please. I am a brand new rider and my husband and I are getting into adventure riding. I too am small stature (5' 2") and I am looking at buying the new KTM 390 Adventure. Now I really appreciate your videos and all the motivation that you are giving me, and that small people can ride large bikes. But I am wondering if this is something that a brand new rider (with really no experience except for the 2 day MSF course) can safely learn from the beginning, or if it's better to learn on something smaller and move up to the adventure bike after gaining more experience. Thank you for your time, and I really love what you're doing!!
@PhilipBeresford
3 жыл бұрын
I'm the same height as you and although Jocelin's tips are awesome, I wouldn't recommend anyone without any motorcycle experience trying these methods. Getting used to the weight of a bike and how it balances takes some time, so in my opinion It's best to learn the basics on a smaller, lighter bike. The 390 Adventure is a great bike and much lighter than an R1250, but the seat height is still fairly tall at ~850mm. You could definitely give it a go, but I can guarantee you will drop the bike so just make sure you get engine crash guards and lever guards. Best of luck!

With some seat time and practice, the fear and intimidation will subside and you will discover the true “joy of motorcycling.” You will be fine on the KTM 390, however, may I suggest some time on a dirt bike or dual sport bike first? I bike such as a street legal 250 or 450, or even the KTM 500 exc will be less damage when it falls over. This way you can build your confidence without getting frustrated and worrying about the parts you’re breaking on your street bike. I’m excited for you! You can ride any bike you desire, and you can do it well, but first you need to have the basic skills and of course Confidence. If you are just learning to ride a motorcycle it may be best to start with something smaller. Off road dirt bikes are a great way to learn to ride, they tip over better than street bikes do. If you want to start with a street bike, maybe look in to your local training program. They have “beginner” bikes, and trained Instructors. Once you have the basics down, and you’ve had time to try different motorcycles, then you can select a bike that calls to you. I wish you all the best!

I would not recommend having your side stand down at a traffic light or crossroad. While stopped at a traffic light, the one foot down and hook the seat with the other leg is best, until the light turns green.
Would this work for people that are 4'10"-4"11" as well?

It takes some practice, but balance is key. Always keeping them bike in balance. If the bike begins to carry weight to the other side, then slide off the seat (dog on fire hydrant) to get your right foot down and grip the seat with your left knee, and re-balance the bike. 😁👍

Impressive but what a hassle, I mean any little thing could throw you off. Example a cramp a rock uneven ground, slippery surfaces, any little thing especially as you get older or are alone in the middle of nowhere. Not being negative but the average person is not as skilled so I really don’t think it’s for everyone especially in full gear.
I'll be really honest here miss, seeing you on the smaller bike made me feel uncomfortable 😂
I bet them thighs are rock solid than Dwayne Johnson’s “aka, the rock”
