Be Kind to Yourself, Beloved Child of God

“It’s taken me a long time to discover how to become the person that I should be. I’ve grown up feeling a lot of shame, not belonging, and feeling like I don’t fit in. I have discovered that many of my external challenges stem from unresolved internal conflicts, such as resentments, childhood wounds, and carried shame.
“I know each of us have our own trials and struggles but for me, recognizing that Jesus Christ gave the perfect example, I don’t question His love for me, but at times, I’ve had a hard time accepting that love in myself. Through my art, I hope to inspire others to seek wholeness and oneness, to reflect inward and ask, am I at peace within?”

I can relate to his story. Not being good at sports kept me on the outside of social groups in the church. I often felt "What is wrong with me? Why am I not good enough?". The day I realized that there was nothing wrong with me was the day I heard Him say "You are good enough. You have always been good enough. You are my son and I love you."

We cannot be good enough at everything. Discrimination may happen on a court or pitch or at a Differential Equations class. It may happen in the Church or at other places. But, IT MUST NOT HAPPEN ANYWHERE. I solemnly testify that each of us will be held accountable for every discriminatory action or omission when presented before our Redeemer and Judge Jesus Christ. We, as members of the Church, have made a covenant with God to love everyone as Jesus Christ loves us. "But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea." (Matthew 18:6). "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." (Matthew 25:40)

This video runs deep inside me. I struggle with the misconception that if I am kind to myself, if I try to see the good in myself, then I'm being arrogant. That's not true. It can be hard to be humble while allowing yourself to feel good about who you are. Jesus doesn't want you to be so humble that you can't love yourself. Thank you for making this.🥰

I once heard humility is seeing yourself and others the way God sees us. I feel this is true. He sees us as equals and loves us all, especially our uniqueness and differences. He sees our good and our potential and roots for us. He doesn't look down on us if we make mistakes, but encourages us to keep trying. He knows we have every hope in the world because of the infinite atonement of his Son Jesus Christ for all of us. We are all children of God who loves us and when we see ourselves and others this way it is both humbling and helps us feel love for ourselves and others.

That is a beautiful piece of art you created into a mural, as well as the thought behind it, at my age now ( 67 ) I still struggle to see the beauty in me that so many others around me see that our Heavenly Father created in me, so in my daily prayers I ask my Heavenly Father to bless me and allow me to see myself through his eyes 👀 so that I’m able to see myself as he does and recognize all the talents and beauty he has created in me as well as the tools that are available to me to help me develop those beauties and talents within me and magnify them and use them for good, and I also know without a doubt that God does NOT create no junk 😅, keep doing what your doing and moving forward with your eyes on our lord and savior Jesus Christ who will leads to our Heavenly Father if we let him 👍🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼… watching from Playa del Carmen Mexico 🇲🇽 👋🏼🫶🏼

What a beautiful testimony you have, brother! Isn’t it an amazing blessing that we have been given to know we are so loved by God!! Without that knowledge, I don’t know how people go on in their life. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, we have been given toolsets (scriptures, Conference, Church meetings, other people’s testimonies, church magazines) just to names a few! A picture is worth a thousand words….just like this young man has said through his mural, “I have worth…I have value….I am loved”!!!

Thanks for sharing Tyran! I have several disabilities, and I felt like because of the Covid 19 pandemic, my mental state has really been effected. I feel like I left a part of myself back in 2019. Fun things like going on trips which I loved to go on pre- Covid, now seem like burdens. Sometimes I beat myself up so to speak, because of not being more motivated to do the many things I used to do, and that I struggle with doing now. Thankfully Jesus Christ has been with me throughout all these trials, and I'm learning to trust in him, and believe he has promised blessings for me. I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true, and has all the eternal ordinances and covenants that can make these endless blessings a reality!

I once asked a friend’s mother what might be the best church book that I should read first. She gave me the book to borrow, “The Gift of Self” by Marion D. Hanks. I loved that book, and I think it helped me to become what I did…just someone who wants to give and help others. I really admire you for your gift of art. I loved art when I was in grade school, and took it in high school, one class in college, then had two private teachers later in life. I got a mental illness, and my confidence to do art by myself has not been as much, it seems I have to be in a class, or with a teacher, so I admire you for nurturing that gift on your own. I used to as a preschooler!! And as a child, I made things for my mom, like cards for special days, and once for both my mom and dad, for their anniversary. And for the family once. Very small, but my rendition of art then. Later in class or lessons, I did some paintings and drawings, and some on my own. I want to do it again. I am not well much of the time, and I have PTSD, so the sensitivity has been affected, but my bishop said to try my art. I am just looking for the right way that will help me to not get overwhelmed, but to be consistent at it, maybe taking breaks now and then, but coming back to it. I learned to love to sew, and to play the piano. I have also enjoyed the guitar. And I loved ballet, social and folk dancing. Art is something I want to go back to. It is core to being creative, and ballet is core to other kinds of dance and even helps with athletics!! I was not great at drama. My only experience in a play was as an old lady who said very few words. But it was still fun. Looking forward to getting well, and back to my art.

Wow, what great video! Just want to say that that guy seems super cool, and I super love your art! The mural is beautiful and I love the meaning behind it. I also really loved the sculpture of the homeless man on the bench who was Jesus. I don't know who did that one, but I thought it was also very meaningful. I'm also super grateful that the church is putting out more and more things about this. I definitely struggled with loving myself sometimes, and I think that's something that a lot of us have a hard time with. I think in the Quest for perfection sometimes it can be easy to forget that it's not a short-term race it's a long term, and all of it is impossible anyway without Jesus Christ - so there's no point many ourselves up about it! He loves us and is merciful and wants to help us succeed. I really appreciate all the churches reminders about that!

Maybe it’s just me but instead of a house I see the word “FEEL” causing a fire in the heart. In a world where men are taught that feelings make them weak and it is said that you can’t trust the feelings of your heart, I think it’s even more important that we break down the barriers that prevent us from being able to feel, and let our hearts be open. It is healing to ourselves and those around us and can truly create a beautiful fire in our hearts once we let our hearts feel. Love the mural and the message!

I believe it’s difficult to sometimes doubt of our self worth , and not comparing is hard. In my case is being unmarried at the age of 34, I have done a lot of self love for years but I believe that being in a waiting season and putting many efforts demotivates us and make us fall apart from god sometimes. Specially as in my case it’s something I have prayed for since I am a child but it is what it is.

It’s impossible to love ourselves in the way that we’ve been commanded to do so, without knowing God, and knowing his love for us. Everything else is just a worldly fake love.

What a story! Tyran is such a courageous soul for sharing his story, for baring his soul to the world. His story works on so many different levels for me, and I'm grateful to you, Tyran, for your courage in sharing your story , for sharing your artistic skill - creating something few on this planet could create, for hanging on to hope and persevering through your dark times, and for being such a great disciple of Christ. I feel certain that Heaven will be peopled by earnest souls like you. I want to make it there. I hope I can make it. If I can, then I know someday I'll see you there. Thanks for your gift here.

Just the fact that so many people resonate with your art shows that many of us are having a human experience that needs your loving insight and strength. When people FEEL And when people EMPATHIZE And when they reach down to LIFT You are acting like Jesus and living His covenants, and have a place in His Kingdom. I don't have any of your same experiences (that I've heard so far) or struggles, but I definitely have a few very terrible struggles this week, and your lady is making me feel like it'll all be ok. So, thank you for her.

Thank you for this story. He is a hero of internal strength. If we could all be more honest, imagine how much more tender the world would be. In turn, it gives all of us the opportunity to love everyone at an intensity that could eliminate or, at a minimum, soften the blows of doubt and differences. There is nothing wrong with you. The errors come from others who are weak in their knowledge of themselves and their divinity to love others.
