Life is Incredibly Unfair - In Our Favor

Jennie Taylor is a mother of seven who suffered a devastating loss when her husband, Brent Russell Taylor, was killed overseas during a military deployment.
Colliding into a mountain range of heartache and despair, Jennie shares the most searing parts of her journey to reclaim life, hope, and her family, and how hearing God’s voice distinctly reached her through the shattered pieces.

@@1Andelina1 Look at that. Bad things happen - humankind comes up with a phrase "everything happens for a reason." Then we realize how shotty it that really is and that as you said it paints god cruel - at least uncaring. So we update the phrase to he can make a reason out of everything that happens. When are we going to stop inventing god and re-inventing god and re-re-inventing god. Can't let god be a bad dude so we invent re invent and rationalize. Case and point look at all the work being done this year 2022 in the old testament come follow me to not let god be a monster. From cherry picking to rationalizing - the apologetics are laughable. As one that used to wear the same uniform and rank I can tell you I often think of your husband ever since I first read about this story in the news. I lost many friends while I was in the service, some to battle and some to the battle within after coming home. I know your family remembers him daily, but even those of us that never knew him will ever forget his service and sacrifice.

We all came out to pay our respects and it brought the community together just before Veteran's Day that year. I had two civilian friends still working as contractors out there at that time. And I also lost a long-time Army friend in Afghanistan several years prior to Brent Taylor.

Rebel I can promise you with no doubt in my mind, your dad did get to see you Mary and have kids even your joy and happiness. Never believe he is not far away from you. Dying is the easy part when you live a good life in the Lord. It's the living that have to struggle so hard now to make the best of what we have. Your dad is fine and happy. Your dad would never want his kids to feel bad anymore. Your dad wants your heart to heal and see you smile again. All you need to do is give your dad a big smile and tell him you love him and miss him, in the name of Jesus Christ! Your dad will see and hear and feel your heart when you speak these things . Do this in your heart and one day you will be healed. We all will die one day, but what matters most is, you giving a piece of your loving heart to others. Remember some of your heart is part of your dad's heart also combined as one. You will find in your life of Trials and tribulations they are only obstacles just like on the freeway driving. Being grateful for these trials will no longer be a trial. They will be only Everyday activities we all have to deal with in life, The Good the Bad the Ugly days. Thank you for sharing those great words of concern. Every one of us see death a little differently. I have lost both parents and Mini others in my life. Through prayers Miracles will happen! @@DJK-cq2uy I'm answering as if you as sincere. I am a veteran and when I was in basic training a lot of young soldiers had this very question. I sat and counseled with a few of them. And as a result one was even baptized. "The Lord has said that in the last days there will be “wars and rumors of wars, and the whole earth shall be in commotion, and men’s hearts shall fail them” (Doctrine and Covenants 45:26). As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we are a people of peace. We follow the Savior, who is the Prince of Peace. We look forward to His millennial reign, when wars will end and peace will be restored to the earth (see Isaiah 2:4). However, we recognize that in this world, government leaders sometimes send military troops to war to defend their nations and ideals. Latter-day Saints in the military do not need to feel torn between their country and their God. In the Church, “we believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law” (Articles of Faith 1:12). Military service shows dedication to this principle. If Latter-day Saints are called upon to go into battle, they can look to the example of Captain Moroni, the great military leader in the Book of Mormon. Although he was a mighty warrior, he “did not delight in bloodshed” (Alma 48:11). He was “firm in the faith of Christ,” and his only reason for fighting was to “defend his people, his rights, and his country, and his religion” (Alma 48:13). If Latter-day Saints must go to war, they should go in a spirit of truth and righteousness, with a desire to do good. They should go with love in their hearts for all God’s children, including those on the opposing side. Then, if they are required to shed another’s blood, their action will not be counted as a sin." www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics/war?lang=eng

After my good husband of 39 years passed away suddenly, one of my sons gave me an analogy. He said he felt that my husband’s death was at first like looking at a handful of dirt or sand and all one could see was the dirt or sand, but in sifting through that, one could see gold nuggets. He said he felt that my husband and I were going to grow in ways we wouldn’t have if he’d lived, and that once we were together again, it would be even better than if he’d lived out his life and we’d continued on together. Although I miss him every day and still cry after his being gone 11 years, I have been SO blessed. The Lord has taken such good care of me and my children, and opened doors for me. I am so grateful for my Savior and His sacrifice, so that we can be together again. Then our joy will be so full and so wonderful!

Thank you for putting this video together! My husband, Michael, passed in June 2022. The first thing I said to my son was "Dad needed to pass to help us grow". We were stagnant in our lives, in the process of moving to another state. We had trained and prepared for new jobs while packing. Now, we have been given the opportunity to get into to the process of buying the same house he knew was our new house., We are starting new jobs, and methodically paced ourselves. And like you, the Lord is beside me! He lives and Michael lives on watching our family daily. We have been given so many opportunities for growth and service since his passing. The first being that early morning before his blood clots stopped his heart right at our side. Our Rescue First Responder training was not going to change the situation, but it put it in perspective. Reality is difficult, but also kind. The 20 year battle was won by Michael and our Lord was right beside him at the finish line of his life. Now he has a wonderful work to do guiding us. There have been happy times with sad, friendships that have grown and loneliness, but in the end, as you, the kindness of the Lord shines through with someone else serving us, giving of their own love, time, and talents. I have seen many afraid to speak to us, unsure of our reactions, but the majority of them are lovingly giving of themselves. And that is why we are here. To grow. Thank you for your strength and strong family military service. I am so blessed to have people in my life that strengthen me and my son as we continue our journey.. to the new house, and new jobs and new opportunities for service. Trust in the Lord, Be of good cheer . Faith proceeds the miracles. Life is wonderful!

Blessings come as you provide comfort to those around you, who are also hurting. Healing comes as you remember and accept the Lord's help. Gratitude comes as you recognize the daily flood of blessings. And mercy is truly understood when your strength is completely gone, invisible hands support you, and divine peace fills your heart.

The best explanation and testimony of the Plan of Salvation and the Atonement. Christ's life was perfect yet he was treated the most unfair so he could die for us. Your husband was killed unfairly but he died and gave his life for us and others. There are not many who can say they gave their life serving and gave their life in death while serving.

Thank you for sharing your story. My husband unexpectedly died at the end of 2019 and hearing of your experience helped me tonight. I have very good days and sometimes very hard days. Today was a hard day-I prayed and then found THIS video. l feel l was led to it. I loved your philosophy regarding Heavenly Father’s role in our earthly lives and feel exactly the same way. We’re not marionettes, we’re people who agreed to come to a random world where random things happen, both good and bad. But whatever does happen He is there for us. I’ve become stronger than l ever thought l could with His help.

I've been on both sides of the bad news. There was no chaplain available that day so I had to break the news to the young Soldier's mother on my own. My job was to help her and the family navigate the DoD bureaucracy - to win the support she deserved, emphasis on deserved. There's no contract, no set time for interaction, there's just being there to help as long as they need. It doesn't take long to become part of the family, in a strange way. I helped her just as much as she helped me understand the grieving process. I would need that understanding later, at the loss of several soldiers and friends of mine. I am not a member but I continue to be impressed by the message of the content coming from your church. The depth you all explore in your content is edifying.

This video hit home for me in many ways. First because I was raised a military brat, and married 2 military men. Thank you for your husband's service to our country. As well as the service you & your children gave by supporting him in his choice to join the military. My husband was retired after 24 yrs active duty. He lived 12 more yrs, and was taken home by way of an accident. I still miss him so, but am grateful that even on the day the coroner knocked on my door, my first thoughts were God knows more than I do. He has a plan, and I know He knows what He's doing. He knows that I don't like that He took my husband, but I trust Him. There have been many blessings that have come to not on my life, but to my son's life, and to many family and friend's lives. One of my biggest blessings was being sealed to my husband. When I married him after raising my son from my first husband, for which none of us were members, I had no intentions of being sealed to my second husband. I loved him dearly, but always looked at it as a civil marriage. I believe with everything in me that my husband died for me so that I would wake up and see that we were meant to be together for eternity. I prayed long and hard for the yr we had to wait, but I got strong confirmation that he was right. We did and do belong together. Had I died first, we wouldn't be sealed now. I'm sorry that you are having to go through the trials and struggles, but thank you for sharing your story, and words of wisdom. God bless you and your children always. 🙏🙏🙏

I've been through the hardest time in my life. After being raised by an alcoholic father and a neglective mother, my first wife having an affair, a botched surgery that left me half crippled... I am having a worst time NOW than ever before. I am in an explainable soul-crushing trial. I feel so alone. Yet, I have a good job. I have good doctors. I have good friends and family that are here for me. Most of all, I have a loving and trusting wife. The truth is, I am not alone, and God has blessed me by keeping me safe in everything else while I deal with this new overwhelming trial. I am lucky and blessed beyond belief. Even now.

Thanks so much for this video I saw today as I have news that my brother is on a ventilator after 2 heart attacks when he was scheduled to have his leg amputated from the knee down because of a heel infection. I live the sentiment of using "and" which seems to free us to just accept the emotions, sometimes conflicting, and feel both ways. Thanks for your testimony and your honesty you share so freely. I am a therapist and I know we must go through steps of grief and healing and I appreciate that you can show us that just because we know the Plan of Salvation it still is so hard and q we can ask "how can we get through this, instead of why." Life is unfair and that acceptance can help us move forward.

What an amazing video! Thank you Jennie and family for your faith filled story. I spent 8 years in the U.S. Army infantry, then went on a mission to the Phillippines, Married my before mission sweetheart who served the Lord while I did in the New York, New York spanish mission. We have 6 kids, 3 boys and 3 girls. Our last 3 are all at BYUI right now and our 3rd missionary is preparing now to put his paperwork in. I'm not sure how either of us would have or could have done it without the other. Your story and your faith is a testimony I needed to hear. Your husband/Dad, looks like he was an amazing leader and I would have loved to have served under him. Thank you for all you have done to get to this point of being able to tell your story. I will start this New Year now, (2023) with a little more gratitude, a little more thought in how I treat others, and a little more thought in what their needs might be verses my own. Your sharing this makes me wonder more now, just how many people are around me that may be going through troubles that I am completely unaware of. I need to be more Christlike and this video has helped me with that.

A very strong woman with a positive mindset. "Even though we want everything to happen for a reason, it's probably a better mindset to let God help make reason out of everything that happens." Amen! To be honest, several thoughts came to mind during the video questioning the family's choices (the necessity to go to war, obligation to family VS obligation to country, the validity of the Afghanistan war, etc.). However, I think a huge part of the lesson here is that, regardless of our choices (which will be different because everyone is different), we all have access to the healing/enabling power of the atonement. The Savior's love is unconditional and is available regardless of nationality, political beliefs, and circumstances. Powerful video.
