Yeah, if the Caesar was the muscles 💪 Octavianus was the brain 🧠 Caesar was a genius dont get me wrong but the Octavian, his political skills were just on another level.
I try and imagine a 19 year old me or any teenager from today walking up to the Senate with the Praetorian Guard to seize control of an Empire. Blows my mind.

Growing up in Rome was not like being a teenager now. Furthermore, circumstances make for speedier adulthood. The Praetorian guard was not as renowned at that time. Octavian was groomed as leader from an early age on.

In those days, women were betrothed at age 6 and married off as early as 9. Same goes for kids. Childhood was very, very short as was the average human lifespan.
It's nice to know more about what happened in this particular civil war. It's also nice to know more about Brutus and Cassius outside of being Caesar's killers. Great video.

As a commander Cassius was pretty competent, after the horrid disaster at Carrhae he led part of the remaining army back into roman territory and defended it for a while from further attacks from the Parthians, at that moment he was just a quaestor which was a relatively low rank in the political order, it was a show of determination and leadership under very trying circumstances. Now is important to mention he did not face the same great parthian general that was responsible of the victory at Carrhae but he still was facing a very superior force with very limited resources.
Oh holy and blessed gods of the algorithm. I offer these gifts and praise unto you to shine your blessings upon the channel
The part where you guys showed the battle is just a masterpiece!!! Keep up the great artwork!!
Honestly, i have never been disappointed by your guys work.
The Xanthians must really love their homeland.. great respect for their standoff
I've read and watched a lot about the second Roman Civil War between the Populares and the Optimates, but I never heard anything about the Optimates' battles against Rhodes and Xantus until now. Thanks for shedding some light on a topic that doesn't get discussed often. Very good video.
11:10 Cassius: I am absolutely against looting and will kill any man who loots, however, if they offer their wealth and assets freely at sword point then that's fair game" Such an honourable man... XD

About time
This weekend we get Caesar….next week Hannibal continuation?!?! 😎😎😱😱
It is completely and utterly incomprehensible, how out of touch the late Republican Senate was in this time. The Romans had lived in fear of the Gauls for 3.5 centuries and Caesar conquered it {which to be perfectly clear, he did with methods that in modern terms would be considered genocide against the Senone tribe, which sacked Rome in early 4th century B.C.E.}. His soldiers had not only marched on Rome, but fought (and won) a civil war for Caesar - against their fellow Romans. But Caesar was also their best general, on his way to fight a war with the Parthians, to retrieve the lost Aquilae (Eagle Standards) from Carrhae. And the Senate thought after they murdered the man who not only did that, but also stood the best chance of them regaining the honour. That the legions would turn *on Caesar's son* for the same people who had Caesar twice beaten in the Civil War and both times gave up an easy victory over Caesar because of the "Republican values", which literally cost all of them their lives.

It amazes me that during these decades of civil war, there wasnt any notable attacks on Rome from outside kingdoms. I guess Rome was just THAT scary in these times that other kingdoms didnt want to risk them unifying against an outside threat

9:25 I feel like you left out something very important. The proscriptions were themselves a compromise between the three Triumvirs. Each of them had to give up someone they cared about very much to prove their loyalty to the others. Octavian, who considered Cicero like an Uncle to him, gave him up.

My favourite part of the day
the Romans spent more time and soldiers fighting each other than against their enemies

This grim tale---not to mention what's going on now in Ukraine and Russia---reminds me of what Gibbon said about history. Great job illustrating a prime example of what he meant by "History is indeed little more than the register of the crimes, follies, and misfortunes of mankind.”

Hard to say a lot of the legions were fresh recruits without much training, fighting against other fresh legions was possible but against standing armies like in Persia would’ve probably failed
