More like "off the head" in the case of Crassus.
Imagine being the one who cuts off Cassius's head. The scouts be coming in the camp, and they be like: “Where's Cassius, Brutus wants to know his situation” and you're like, “I had just cut off his head.”

For all of Octavian’s talents, which were many, he was not much of a military man. It’s where his epic bromance with Agrippa became very helpful.

There is something undeniably poetic about the murderer of the most prominent Roman of his age, dying because he couldn't tell friend from foe amongst the Romans. He claimed to stand for Republican values, when the Republic was already doomed. Yet he was sincerely a man of principled beliefs (even if said beliefs were misguided, to put it mildly). And he single-handedly redeemed the Roman East, after Crassus catastrophic failure. No wonder Shakespeare was obsessed.

Cassius is a fascinating figure - he was a talented general, a shrewd politician, and a gifted speaker. He was the last real threat to the Caesarians but doesn't get enough credit for his merits.

I wish these type of videos existed back when I was in school. The best and highest grade I’ve ever had in any class was history, due in part to the effort I put into my project but I also did just genuinely love the subject. I’ve never felt the fire and passion of wanting to learn something so fully ever. I wake up every day yearning to fill my cup and I’m beyond blessed to have access to this free knowledge. It's similar to the Hellenistic age where Alexander previously triumphed, but his successors struggled against one another.
So basically Augustus was the luckiest guy ever. Caesar gives him his name, Antony give him this victory, Cassius offs HIMSELF, and I haven't even mentioned the gift of Agrippa. They say it's better to be lucky than good, but come on!

@@michaelsinger4638 What I will say is it took courage to claim his inheritance. He could have stayed out of it and just collected the money without putting his neck on the line. That being said, it's sort of like playing poker with 90% of the chips. Things Caesar did in virtually every theatre of war were much more harrowing (doesn't help Augustus' street cred that he just "happened" to be taken ill during many an important battle -- in his defense he didn't exactly seek it out, as his adoptive father had. Fortune favors the bold, after all -- or, just the fortunate.)
Tfw your army attacks in such an unorderly fashion that they accidentally miss the enemy and hit them in the rear instead.
This is why you need to color code your armies. When everyone looks the same, you get stuff like Cassius killing himself to escape capture that never would have come in the first place.

Cassius case be like: "The man who got rattled". 😭
And people think the fog of war is bad NOW when we have radio, radar and satellite view. Back in the day all the men kicking dirt into the air made it possible to win one half of a battle, lose the other half and have no idea who won anyway.
I bloody hate how Octavion sat on the sidelines and still got to win but hell even carry ons can become legends I guess go Mark Antony
I have been waiting on someone to do a detailed documentary on this battle since, in my opinion, Mark Antony does not get enough military credit for this victory. I desire to do one on the battle of Mutina but it was harder to find sources that gave close details to battle.
