    Joe, Great video! The Batrium is not exactly a "simple" system, but it does seem to be very well designed and useful. Hats off to your video recording and editing skills. I can tell it's taken a lot of work to put out the videos that you do. Finally, at the risk of incurring the swelled burrhead syndrome, good job on the whole 18650 system. I think it will work very well for a long time.

    There's should be a relation between my charge controller and the Batrium bypass for example if I let my charger controller stop charging a 57.26V this is about 4.09 volts for each cell(or module cell) so in the top balance the Batrium bypass volt should be 4.09 or something different

    I have done that a few times as well and now usually put the stuff back on grid so the packs dont get down that low. But if your not around like we are at times it would be nice to have an option to shut it off. The only way to do that automatically is to install a shunt trip. Then in the Watchmon software you can set it to trip the shunt which will disconnect the power at the voltage you set. I also need to get one for that reason or if some other issue comes up!

    As a newb I have so many questions about exactly what the Batrium BMS does. I've read the Batrium web site and WiKi BMS but still don't completely understand. Maybe someone will shed some light on these questions. What does it really do? Is it just a monitor or does it actually charge/discharge the packs? Does the charge and discharge circuit flow through the Batrium or does it flow through the shunt and the BMS measures the shunt? The longmon's get hot. Do they actually discharge some packs with resistors to equalize them to other packs? The longmon's are not connected to each individual cell in each pack so how can they tell that an individual cell is going bad? And how do you identify that cell? Manual testing? Does it control fans to cool the batteries during discharge?

  • @AveRage_Joe

    @AveRage_Joe

    6 жыл бұрын

    The Batrium is a BMS. It manages your batteries to keep them in balance as the packs recharge to full again. The reason is if one or more packs get out of balance on recharge, you could potentially overcharge one or more packs and that could be a bad thing for li-ion batteries as we all know. It is a smart battery monitor and the longmon on each pack has a bunch of little resistors on them that will activate and bleed off excess voltage if a pack starts to go out of balance from the others. The Batrium doesnt charge anything, just discharge when needed. The shunt will give you state of charge voltage and measures the amps coming and going into the entire pack. The longmon is attached to one pack and doesnt check each cell in a pack. You would get a good idea if a pack is having issues if it is recharging faster than all the other packs and the longmon is activated trying to bleed off excess voltage to try and stay in balance. Then yes, you would remove that pack and manually check the cells. You can actually set it up to turn on/off fans or other cooling/heating devices with the expansion board. I hope this sheds a little light on your questions and if you have more dont hesitate to ask!!!👍

    It seems to me like the battery packs and charging system are complete and the BMS is simply branched off to the side. If your using rhe batrium, check the connections on that longmon and wiggle them a lil to see if it fixes it.

    Looks like everybody is happy with batrium except me. my problems are: 1.- I was having a 2p14s system, but it was weak for running my clothes dryer, I move to 3p14s, test my clothes dryer everything work(consumption 6kW). Next day I start to smell like burn plastic, check my system the shunt was melting, my consumption energy should be by the time around 2kW. Batrium conclusion you inverter the polarity in the shunt. Maybe they have never install one shunt(heavy cables), I only disconnect the battery side on the shunt, so I can add my 1p14s to the system. Finally they decide to ship me a new shunt, only pay the shipping. 2.- With the 3p14s I try to add a new inverter(shunt inverter side). The batrium system fail, no lights, I find the shunt was making the watchmon fail, I disconnect the shunt the watchmon work again. Having a conversation with Batrium they were agree to ship me a 1000 amp shunt for half the price but they told me to send them picture of my system, they conclude that I have 3 cables connected to the shunt(cables are tight no loose), so the shunt get hot and was damage. All the consumption in the system still running through the shunt. I check the shunt when I'm using the clothes dryer and there's no excesive heating(the average temperature of the shunt is 85degress Fahrenheit. My conclusion is the electronic part on the shunt is the culprit if you know the shunt you know there's tiny cables connected to the electronic part, for me is an electronic fail, for them was an electric one(big cables) If I want a 1000 amp shunt I have to pay the full price. My recommendation is avoid batrium, you don't have a third party, they decide you make the mistake and that's it. My system is a lot of components(panels, breaker, charger, inverters, surge protector etc.) all these were bought through amazon, or ebay. When one of them fail amazon or ebay decide if was really my fault no the company that sell the product.

    Thats crazy! I havent heard of any problems like that. I havent had any issues except my own failures. I do know that connections will heat up if not properly connected and secure! Ive had that happen many times in past on other projects.

    Sir i have a question how many years thus lithium ion will be out of usage or failure? Thus all the cell will be replace? Or if using batrium how many years it will take to be replaced?

    It can really depend on how you use the batteries. If you use them within there spec limits and charge and discharge under 1a per cell they can last many many years. It is usually double the length of lead acid. The batrium is a BMS, it makes sure you dont overcharge each pack and keeps them in balance with each other. There are many other options the user can set up for longer lithium life.

    AveRage Joe using batrium does the batrium can detect the deffect cell o thus batrium can pin point where the defective cell is located?

    No it cannot pin point a bad cell in a big parallel pack but it can indicate a weak pack. Then you can go in and take a physical look to determine the cause.

    I would never put a system containing such a ridiculous amount of energy that relies on such an unstable chemistry inside my house. Obviously, you will say it is save, but I would not sleep a wink. It only takes one cell to go rogue for the whole pack to catch fire and blow up. Any idea how your insurance underwriter would respond in case you survive a disaster?

    Basically a pcb with a bunch of resistors that will bleed off energy of a higher voltage pack to keep in balance with all the other packs!😄🖒
