About the last episode it wasn't as clear cut and unambiguos as you make it seem. She only said the village wouldn't be destroyed which it wasn't The volcano was going to erupt yes but ultimately the problem took care of itself and no one that followed her was harmed.

Lots of people don't understand why Aang lied, but they forget: Aang is not just a child. He's a victim of GENOCIDE. He's the only Airbender left, the last of an entire culture. Katara and Sokka are the closest thing Aang has to family now...and then comes BATO. Bato has a close, personal connection to Katara and Sokka, Water Tribe culture, and their family that Aang doesn't have. From Aang's viewpoint, he would easily be left behind for their "real" family. I imagine a lot of stepchildren or adopted siblings have felt the same way Aang did in this episode.

Yeah he's just afraid he'll be all alone. Hell he's a 12 year old who not too long ago found out everyone he's ever known except for two, Bumi and Appa, are probably or surely dead. On top of that, he's the avatar, meaning he has to end the war. Worse than that, he's been given a time limit of a few months. This 12 year old kid has to master three elements in a few months or else the world is fucked forever. The only good thing about his situation is that he has Katara and Sokka with him. He was just afraid of them leaving too and did something shitty because of it.

Still doesn't really condone his actions. Nothing in the world excuses you out of doing bad things, and you should be criticized for them. However, what IS important is that he did realize his own mistake, and learned from it. That alone is what makes him a good person, despite the bad things he sometimes extremely rarely does.

@@GrimmBones Unless I'm tripping I don't think it was said in the top comment that Aang wasn't in the wrong. Cause he was. And there's no way around it. Sokka and Katara had every right to be angry at Aang for what he did. Yet that he was being in the wrong and made mistakes does also not mean his feeling's are invalid during the episode. That complexity is what made the show so great. Aang reacted like a real child would that's afraid of losing his only friends at that point. And at the end he owned up to his mistakes

I like how Zuko gradually levels up like Aang, and it really comes off like _Zuko_ is getting better in his fights against Aang, not the other way around.

Man, you guys are one of my favorite reactors. You're one of the few channels that just "get it". Your understanding the show, having fun, and it's a real treat to watch you guys!

People say that Aang was out of character in this episode. No he wasn’t. He has every right to feel upset cuz he thought Sokka and Katara, his only family left, were gonna ditch him. Everyone has flaws. You can’t expect him to be perfect. This is what makes Aang a great character.

I agree. Aang had it for like 8 hours and they started the morning with a boat ride that needed concentration. It's not like its been a week or a whole season yet they drop Aang like a wet towel in winter. Seriously he could've even thought that they needed to rest and give it in the morning, would've taken as long. Aang even shows he's trustworthy because he wasnt busted, he told them the truth.

Re-watching this since Korra ended, love that Lupa keeps singing songs from lion king 2😂 and love that Sheera mistook it for Under the sea😂😂

I know there are some people who would say that it's very unlike Aang to do what he did, but considering he's just a kid that lost everything and is at the moment, feeling left out and possibly forgotten, it makes sense why he hid that map. It doesn't necessarily make it right, but like everyone else, he has fears and insecurities as well. The fight (fighting choreography especially) between Aang and Zuko was fantastic! Appa fighting alongside Aang was fantastic and heartwarming as well!!

I always see you around ATLA/LOK vids lol. But yeah the fight between Aang and Zuko this episode is one of my favorite bending battles in Book 1. Like you said, the choreography is absolutely amazing and really foreshadows the next level fights we get in the next two seasons.
