The scores are incredible, and he simply improves upon it in Batman Returns. I actually didn’t mind Forever. Yes, it was campy and a little dumb, but it was a fun and entertaining movie, and at least it had a plot, unlike Batman and Robin, which can only be enjoyed as a comedy or a guilty pleasure.

@@GregorasProject, 1. I did not say it is the same argument. I said that your argument is about as my compelling as my example. Learn how to read. 2. To all? Maybe not. To most? Yes, I would say that. Considering his dedicated to his craft and risks he is willing to take (both creative and physical), I can safely say that Christian Bale is right up there with one of the greatest. 3. That wasn't even the best scene with him in those movies. But it's a good showcase of how much life he brought to the character. Especially in the later movies, in which he is shown facing juxtapositions and loses that challenge his worldview.

I grew up with Batman and Batman Returns and have always loved these movies, but now that I'm older I love discovering new things about them; stuff I didn't get as a kid. Like the first one is a noir, while the sequel is like this Faustian opera. I love the gothic imagery of the first movie and the theatricality of the sequel.

Yep, that's a huge reason I think that the sequel is a great film in it's own right. Returns didn't try to be a bigger, better version of Batman89. It went for a completely different vibe and aesthetic that's somehow aged well over time.

DeVito, Keaton and Pfeiffer are just memorising in this film. Absolute classic!

It never occurred to me until just now that while she was stroking his armor, she was just probing for a weak spot. Don't know how I never noticed it.

Theman Joe This film has a malignancy that the Nolan films lack. The opening alone is more disturbed than anything in The Dark Knight. The intertext in this film to Expressionist horror is constant (Caligari, Nosferatu, Browning's Freaks) and gives it an underlying disturbance that the Nolan films lack. The Nolan films are spectacular in their own right, but they are not pulling from early 20th century Expressionism the way Burton's work is.

Just look at Tims burtons use of shadows in those scenes. part of batman's face shrouded in shadow as he steps closer to the camera. Its all such a beautiful tribute to the comic books. The 1989 film, and Batman returns are classics. Michael Keaton is my favorite Batman to this day. Has the best lower half of the face look in the mask and best bat glare. Michelle Pfeiffer still holds the crown for the BEST portrayal of Catwoman.

Hathaway's Catwoman portrayal focused on the theif side of Catwoman. Hathaway perfectly displayed Catwoman's skill in deceit, martial arts, and cunning. I respect her for that. Pfeifer's Catwoman though, in spite of not totally successfully displaying the skills it takes to be an expert cat burglar nor even focusing on the fact that Catwoman is supposed to be a burglar, gave Catwoman DEPTH. "How could you be so mean to someone so meaningless?" and "Bruce, I'd love to live with you and your castle... I just couldn't live with myself." Pfeifer might have not been a great acrobat nor a really good wall climber. Heck, this Catwoman was more of a chaosmaker than a thief. She just blew up the store instead of taking jewels. I love how she doesn't care much for greed, but focuses on her vengeance for Max. Not to mention, the whole stitches thing is more appealing to me than a burglar suit.

Danny Devito actually did a great job as Penguin, Michael Keaton's Batman always a legend and Danny Elfman's music! Batman and Batman Returns are a GOAT duo.

I don't think penguin is death. In my theory

3:19 I just realized there were a couple guys on their balconies as Catwoman fell. That had to be right down the street from Shreck's. Imagine chilling, drinking, and watching the stars; then all this action pops off. A store blows up and a gang of clowns start a riot. You pound on your wall and tell your neighbor there's a fight on the street. You bet $20 on the big guy in black. After the brawl, you hear a couple more explosions in the distance. Finally it quiets as you see the clowns regain consciousness on the street and the shopkeepers putting out fires in their businesses. A helicopter flies overhead, you think it's the cops, but it turns out to be the mayor candidate. You scratch your head wondering if you drank too much. Suddenly a slim figure in black falls from the roof into the litter truck. What a night. You're going to have one Hell of a story to tell everyone at work the next day.

Indeed. But granted I'm sure the citizens of Gotham were used to utter crazyness by that point and either hated it or loved. A deformed and chemically damaged maniac tried to poison them for no reason a few years earlier so that would break them to almost anything else. Plus there is the fact that Selina went ape shit in her apartment screaming, rampaging, and damaging everything in sight yet no one either called the landlord or 9/11 at any point. What a mad world that Gotham musta been lol. But yet I've always wanted to see more of it. I hope they reference and grow the world out some more in the new Flash movie.

To this day, no one tops Michael Keaton as Batman, overall. Ben Affleck was the best live-action/fight scene Batman. Christian Bale was the best Bruce Wayne. Kevin Conroy is the best Batman voice. Honorable mention to the OGs Lewis Wilson, Robert Lowery and Adam West.

They should've gotten Michael Madsen as Batman/Bruce Wayne instead of Michael Keaton.

I don't know why, but, the look on Batman's face that you see in this video's thumbnail/during the fight with Catwoman always made me laugh, when I was a kid. It still makes me chuckle, to this day.

I think the one thing that stands out for Michelle’s Catwoman is that she is a perfectly formidable foe for Keaton’s fearlessness Batman. She was more than just a match and almost had him in physical combat.

@@sschevmale24 Bale and Affleck are my fav Batman but I still love Keaton's roles. Kilmer was ok. I remember feeling bummed out that Keaton was replaced in Forever. Can't help the childhood nostalgia.

as i said, i am a woman so, don't take me for granted. life's a bitch and, so am i'' - catwoman- batman movies really have some deep messagges.. lol

It is never explained why Catwoman hates Batman enough to attack him during their first encounter. A day or two earlier, when she was just Selina Kyle, Batman had actually saved her from one of the thugs rioting in Gotham City, so there is no reason for her to be so aggressive towards him (other than the fact that the audience expects them to be enemies, which is no explanation at all).

I love how he saves her from that slanted rooftop when she's clawing at the tiles, but when he slaps her immediately after she doesn't land on said rooftop and just straight falls off the building 🤣

Michael Keaton is Returning as Bruce Wayne/Batman as an older version this time in the Flashpoint movie that is going to air on 2022.....

I like the two Burton movies much better than the modern ones. they are subtle and ironic, don't take themselves all too seriously...

Perfect movie for a winter season. I like to re-watch it on a Christmas. And I was playing a nes game at the same winter long time ago. IDK its just winter movie. A very good ^^

One of my favorite things about the Burton movies is that Batman actual had hand to hand combat with the villains.. he fights them at the end of the movie. In Shoemakers movies, Batman doesn't actual fight Riddler,Twoface, or Freeze... Its over by some machine destroying them or accident.

"Life's a bitch, now so am I" Gotta love those classic Hollywood one liners!
