Bassani 2x2 Dual Head Pipes For Harley Touring-Install Tutorial & Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We show you exactly how to install Bassani 2x2 Dual head pipes on a Harley Davidson touring motorcycle. This header system gets rid of your catalytic converter (cat), opening up the flow, increasing power & sound, & greatly reducing heat on the rider. Cats create a large amount of heat.
Note: Always check your local, state, and federal laws regarding motorcycle exhaust systems.

The Bassani pipes are nice because they are basically the exact same as the stock Harley head pipes minus the catalytic (cat) converter. This opens up the flow of exhaust, creates power & sound, and significantly cuts down on the heat on a rider. They also re-use the stock chrome heat shields, which saves you money. These headers have both 18mm and 12mm O2 sensor ports. You can use your stock Harley o2 sensors with these headers. If you want to change your O2 sensors out and use wide-band O2 sensors then you can use the larger 18mm ports. Plugs come with the headers for 12mm and 18mm, so you can plug one set off.
Putting these headers on increased the sound of Lurch's bike, because of the cat now being gone. It also increased performance & cut out a ton of heat. Lurch was already running V&H Titan 450 OS slip-on mufflers.
Remapping your motorcycle's Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) is necessary when you change the flow of exhaust or air intake on your Harley, such as we did in these exhaust installs. Make it easy and get a V&H Fuelpak 3 Electronic Fuel Injection Tuner from our store. We highly recommend this EFI tuner and we use it heavily here at Law Abiding Biker™ Media.

I did the Rinehart Xtreme Tru Dual system on my bike, a 2016 Roadglide Special in Black Quartz. Love love love them. The amount of heat reduction from losing the cat cant be understated. That cat puts out sooo much heat. Full system cost like 950 complete with mufflers, headers, and heatshields and that Rinehart sound....ohhh baby!!!

Ryan, I just installed these headers on my 2016 Ultra this afternoon. Took me 4 hours as I took my time and was very methodical on how I tackled the install. The new pipes were just a hair larger in diameter than my Scremin' Eagle mufflers. Instead of banging on the mufflers and poking them with a screw driver & pliers, I took a quick trip to my local auto parts store and picked up an exhaust pipe expander for $25 and it did the trick by opening them up just the little bit I needed. Only took a few minutes. Plan on doing an Autotune with my V&H Fuelpack over the next couple of days. Thanks again for the great video. Not sure I would have tackled the job without it......I appreciate what you are doing for us bikers.

Ryan, This is just what I need. The stock CATS are really a pain (literally) and my right leg feels like it's on fire at times. They aren't needed here in NH and will order a set in the next day or so. Your video is great and plan on installing them myself. Thanks for posting these great videos.

Heck of a coincidence, I schedule my 2010 Ultra Classic CVO to go in to the speed shop and have the Bassani 2x2 head pipe installed with some RC Components mufflers this Wednesday. I had a Bassani Road Rage exhaust on my 08 Night Rod Special and it was great, so I bought this 2X2 header for my 09 Road Glide and it was great. Until I tried to remove the left muffler to remove the wheel for a tire change. The act of wiggling and twisting the muffler caused the rear section of the collector to crack and rip (best description for it). I removed the head pipe from the bike to inspect it and tried to manipulate it to close the crack and see about repairing with a weld. That action caused the rear cylinder header to tear away from the collector on the front edge of the weld using very little force with my bare hands (no tools, no clamps)! This was after only about 14 months and 10,000 miles of use! Never again, Bassani. Cheap steel. I'm going to try a FuelMoto Jackpot stainless steel 2-1-2 header now. I wish I could show pictures here of the Bassani.

Yah, we know V&H says that and we are a distributor for V&H. They are being cautious and they don't want the tech support emails etc...We disagree a bit and run auto tune regardless of the O2 sensors being close. We have no cross-talk problems and have auto tuned a ton of bikes with the FP3 with many set ups. You choose.

Ryan Urlacher interesting. Before I called support I was trying auto tune and seemed to be doing good and had learned 98 green blocks, I noticed a big increese in power and response and running much much cooler, then I put a screaming eagle high flow filter kit on and had a question for them so I called them and they told me the same about not using auto tune and they would map it so that's what I did and it still seems to run the same but gets hot af again... so I should go back and finish my auto tune and not use there map so I can get it cooled back down and maybe even get better performance ? Thanks in advance for any further info regarding this . I'm mechanically inclined but not so much on tuning my 16 sgs.

If you remove your gaskets, you can make your own tool for under 5.00 to seat the new gaskets. A bolt, two washers and a nut is all you need. It works as well as the 45.00 version.

Hey Ryan, I bought the same pipes for my 2015 Amber Whiskey Street Glide Special. Your video came in real handy getting the install completed!! One question, did Lurch have any exhaust leakage at the heads?? I installed without getting new exhaust gaskets and couldn't get them to seal. I have an inch pounds torque wrench and tightened to factory specs, 110 inch pounds. I had exhaust leakage from the back cylinder, tried tightening a little more with no luck. I am getting gassed at every stop light if the wind isn't blowing! I went to the dealer and bought new HD crush exhaust gaskets and repeated the process without any luck, still leaks exhaust. Called and emailed Bassani, they never returned any messages. Any suggestions???

As always Ryan your videos are A+ in quality of content. Question: are these pipes going to flow better than stock and are they suitable for stage performance upgrades ( say stage 2 ) ? Thanks in advance for answer . Also , I would appreciate anyone’s opinion as well . Thx

First Great Video! Now the questions, First any Harley warranty issues with replacing these headers? Second question, hard to tell if your bike had an upgraded air intake on it, was it stock or did I just miss that part? I have a 2016 Road Glide Ultra, I already replaced the stock slip-ons with the High Output V&H, great sound and looks.

Thanks Kenny. Yes the bike has an upgraded intake. It's the Vance and Hines VO2 naked intake. shop.lawabidingbiker.com/collections/air-fuel-exhaust/products/vance-hines-vo2-intake-naked-for-harley-davidson Check with your local HD shop about the warranty. Most won't care, but we have heard some horror stories.

Hi Ryan. I now have these pipes on my bike with a stage2 SE torque cam upgrade 457 . I used the Harley pro street tuner but also added the smarttunepro which uses 18mm O2 sensors . Did so for warranty and also I figured Harley techs where I go know how to set all this stuff up Question: I know you recommend fuel pak for tuning but in your opinion how much am I losing out in terms of performance and tune ability going the Harley route verses fuelpak? Is it a whole lot of HP ??

I have similar set up with a decat headpipe.... long story short V&H said they had to set my map because the bung holes are to close together and will give false readings while trying auto tune. So if you want to tweak it yourself for maximum performance using auto tune ya better get a different head pipe. In not sure what one I want to try yet. If anyone knows more on this subject please comment.

Tried to install the Bassani headers on my '23 HD Road Glide Special today and it didn't go well. The O2 sensors on the Bassani headers are not even close to the factory locations. The Bassani bungs are both at the top of the pipe close to the cylinders. i decided to return them instead of trying to find an extended sensor and starting over. The rear bung may have reached but the front is way too short. Have to question why Bassani didn't duplicate the O2 bungs location on the factory '23. With your help, I installed Bassani headers on my '18 Road Glide like you did in this video and I had NO problems whatsoever! Very disappointed in Bassani.
