Bass Lines In Minutes - A 'Plug-And-Play' Formula

Being able to make your own bass lines at a moment’s notice is one of the most useful skills you can learn as a bass player.
Think about it - if you can do this, then you’ll have no problem:
Nailing songs you haven’t ever heard
Landing gigs or studio work (there’s always demand for bass players who can pick things up fast)
Playing with people you’ve never played with before
Learning songs blisteringly fast
You only need to know 2 things to create solid, functional bass lines that will work with 80% of the songs that you’ll find ‘in the wild’.
Of course, there are places where the instant bass line formula WON'T work. For example, if there's a specific part that a guitar is playing that you have to play as well, then using this formula isn't a good idea.
For most situations though, this method of writing your own bass lines is perfect.
If you want to take your bass lines beyond 'paint by numbers', then download the bonus video, Next Level Bass Lines. In it, I'll show you how to take the bass lines that we made in this video and elevate them.
You can put your own spin on them using simple tricks that will make them more interesting, more fun and most importantly, they'll make your bass lines better. Click here to get the bonus video: becomeabassist.com/how-to-mak...

I love the 'drop out' demonstration. It shows the value of the bassist keeping time & keeping it simple. Thanks Luke, I'm off to practice!
Really got a lot out of this video! Everyone says 'stay with the kick' but I've never heard it explained so simply - 2 easy steps - which makes it way more understandable and doable. Thanks Luke!
Bah! The thumbnail promised me limit theory.

There are no limits
This is 95% of being a bass player, just playing root notes all day, but if you're a motivated and talented bass player and youve got some good theory knowledge, youll learn to jazz up those notes by using filler notes and throwing in some style, some slap etc. But at its core this is bass playing for a lot of music
I think he’s actually playing in the key of Ahn-Ahn ...

Great video…. But, yes…. Can you remake it without sounding like the third place contestant in a glory hole competition?
Of all the bass lessons on KZread, yours make the most sense. Logical and to the point. 👍

That's exactly what I aim for @Zainad Saad - thanks so much!
I have picked up and set down the bass for over 50 years. I have bought hundreds of dollars worth of books, tapes, cds, DVDs, and equipment. And this what I have been looking for. I can't thank you enough. I'm headed out, right now, to try it again at age 65. When the student is ready, the teacher appears. Thank you, thank you, thank you.💖👍🥰🙋♂️...I'm gonna paint by number....at least to start.😉

Awesome @Ken Hieter! And absolutely nothing wrong with painting by numbers at the start. Use the formulas to lay your foundation, and when you're ready, you can build on top of it.
Great advice, for beginners as well as seasoned bassists, nothing wrong with keeping the bass line simple and in time. Most other musicians will appreciate it.

Absolutely, I've cringed at some bands where the bass player and drummer don't listen to each other. Ruins the song as it sounds just off..
This is the most clear lesson I have seen in a while, thank you!
As a complete beginner, what I love about your approach/videos is that you teach the fundamentals of bass playing that can (depending on skill level and creativity) be applied in differenways. Very different to 'impress your friends with these x most famous bass lines"
I find your tutorials very informative and the explanations are most helpful.
You make everything simple and easier to understand.. Thank you sir
Thank you for this video, which has been by far the most useful to me as a beginner bassist. I now play in a 5 piece folk band, where we dont have a percussionist, but I imagine what a drummer might play as a simple rhythm, and make my bass line follow that. It is surprising how a simple "root notes only" bassline can propel a band......
Love your lessons and enthusiasm. Im a guitarist but your lessons make playing the bass so much fun.
Brilliant. Straightforward stuff, which is what most people are looking for. 👍👏👏👏

Really valuable to me!
Awesome video. Loved the comparisons, helps to get the point. Cheers
Brilliant! You are an inspiration mate. Not only that, but you make the student feel that they can achieve what you demonstrate.
Conveniently explained.. great lesson.
This is truly useful , thanks ..
Awesome, Thank U Luke. Exactly what I needed to learn today. May the Force be with U.
Good stuff. This is pretty much what I do to learn a song for the most part, then add in some walking bass transitions between the roots... :)

Luke great job , looking for some bass lessons for my grand son to follow when I'm on the road . Most are to advanced for him right now and this way he will have someone for instruction when I'm gone. I will be visiting your web site.
nice lesson thank you!
I like how you presented this idea. It's exactly the approach I used when I was transitioning from guitar to bass almost two decades ago. 😁 Keep up the good work! You're videos are helping a lot of people!

Nice and simple, and yeah, really powerful! Another way you can have fun with it is how long you hold the notes. Swapping from playing a "long short" pattern, to a "short long" pattern can really change the feel, even though you are still just playing roots and with the kick drum. Its the power we have!! :D

Absolutely Phil! There's so much you can do with so little - and great insight about the length of notes. It's one of the most important parts of a groove that's often glanced over.
That's exactly how one should teach! Thank you so much for this epic video! No joke! Subscribed!

FANTASTIC... GOOD WAY OF EXPLAINING
Hey! I like your videos; keep them coming! I did notice that the levels between your voice and when you’re playing are very different. When I have your voice at a comfortable level I can not hear your bass, but if I turn it up so I hear the bass, it sounds like your yelling. If you can fix that, I’m sure myself and others would benefit even more. Thanks again for your content!
great

This is exactly how I play bass if I haven't taken the time to learn the original line. It feels good to hear a pro teach it that way.
