I'm living in the Basque Country guy from Ireland. Can confirm after one year it's the hardest place to get any... 'Dating' I've been to yet. Lovely people but they are incredibly forward and incredibly withdrawn in the opposite ways to Irish people. All the comments here are generally true. Beautiful scenery. Great culture. But if youre a foreigner and like physical intimacy I'd suggest elsewhere 😅

I think the thing that makes basques so "complicated" is that we tend to take our commitments to heart, not just romantic relationships. Life is already hard enough by itself without taking dumb life decisions that we don't even know we'll be able to honor. So it's better to take things slow than regretting shit later.

Also, it takes us forever to say "I love you" for the first time to our partner (or anybody else), those are big words for us and we don't say them easily, not even to friends or family. I was shocked by how often and easily Americans say it!

My grandpa is 100% basque and I lived with him most of my life. He was American born but came from immigrants from the Basque Country. He is very protective of the ladies in the family. It’s been rough bringing in our guys. He is very straight forward so if he doesn’t like you he won’t fake it. As he aged dementia has been kinder on our partners. Also side note; do you have any great basque KZread channels of people speaking basque? He is desperately trying to find someone to talk too. I think a cool video or movie you know of might be interesting to him. I know there’s dialects which also make it tricky. He never taught us besides the greetings. Also a great way to tell dirty jokes without your granddaughter understanding. 😂

The dating game in the Basque country is very strongly influenced by politics and ethnicity. Now, if you are not Spanish/French or pro-Spain/France... you'll be seen as a novelty and interesting. Now, if you are thinking about a long-lasting relationship... then we have many more social factors that come into the picture... as in regular dating.

hi . I come from one of the oldest names in ireland . surname connor . my hair is black and my eyes are blue sometimes green with an orange ring in the centre I have very wide cheek bones and with no excersize I am allways very muscular even tho I am very slim . people refer to me as black irish also sharing my dna similar to the earliest inhabitants of ireland . i have been doing research into origins and it appears that the basque people inhabited ireland many thousands of years ago . I wonder if any basque people share my features and possibly the orange ring in the centre of the eye . I have reached a level of mythology in researching my heritage and now I am here

Since starting this KZread channel, I've read many comments about Basques having a ring around their pupils. But before venturing into KZread, I'd never ever heard of this theory. Very curious. Super cool that you're interested in Basque topics! Researchers have found a connection between the Basques and the Irish, but I need to familiarize myself more with the literature. Glad you found the channel.

@@HellaBasque OMG.. wait, what?? That is what all of my relatives have it makes their eyes look hazel if their eyes are brown ! But it is a blue ring around the pupil? I have the blue ring but my eyes are very dark, it is on the outer edges. My mother had hers looked at because I was worried it was something genetic that could be bad. The doctor said no, it was not and he did not know what it was, he assumed it was her natural eye color. I mean we have had her looked at several times. She said she had it pretty much her whole life. It really does make her eyes look either green or blue even though her eyes are a light brown..Same with her brother. Holy Moley! Everyone at least on her father's side has it. We know our heritage I am Basque/Galician on both sides and of course type O. I have never heard that about the Basques how interesting that, that is a possible inherited trait from our people! :D Thank you so much for your channel.

Hey there I see this was awhile ago. I thought I would drop a line, as I thought you might be interested in the latest research in genetics. They have found the link that the Basque are the ancestors of the Irish and other Celtic people of the UK. The Basque left for Ireland in a time beyond measure, to colonize Ireland. You are our family. What is interesting is that both tribes still remember this break and this story has been passed down orally over the ages. It is only now that science is catching up to what we already knew, we are truly family. Your features are classic Basque FYI if that is you in the photo. Have you had your blood type done? It might tell you even more most Basques and Galicians are type O. You may indeed still be type O. :D

I am Basque/Australian and I think that Basque people are fairly conservative, compared to US dating culture. People hang out in cuadrillas for a long time, and men like in most cultures have much more sexual freedom than women. There is acceptance of dating at first, but you don't want to be a woman who has been known to have lots of sexual partners. The thing is society has changed since my parents were young. My mother married my dad after 5 years of being his sweetheart. She was 20 years old and he was 23. Pre marital sex was frowned upon, so young men were keen to have an early wedding. These days people seem to want to go from their parents home to one of their own, without having to pay rent to another person. It means saving for a deposit for very expensive tiny apartments, so they often do not marry until they can afford to enter the housing market and so they are often in their late thirties. This means fertility has wound down for most women, so that often their is only one child in the marriage. With luck perhaps two. Babies seem to be very precious, and often spoken about as "Our baby" by other family members.

Basically "dating multiple persons" is typically American haha in Europa in general it works a bit differently so I think in basque country it is too ^^ If in America you think it's totally normal, here it can be seen as a "bad thing", you can be considered as a "not serious person" if you do that and if you do that too much. Really original but interesting topic jaja Musu from basque country 😁

I think the same thing and a lot of people (family mostly) think it is *OKAY* to date multiple people and they think I am *strange* for thinking it is more normal to date one person at a time. But I am glad that people in Europe see relationships in my perspective too, because I am serious about relationships and I cannot find anyone serious here in America :( Maybe I should move to Europe? lol. Dating multiple people is indeed an American thing and I think Basque people who think it is okay to date multiple people are mostly the American Basques who say that, lol. idk, that's my opinion though!

@@HellaBasque We DEFINITELY don't date more than one person at a time! No way! It's true that we are slow and shy in picking up people, and also, it takes us a long time to start going out with somebody seriously. We are in a relationship with somebody for MANY YEARS before we get married. Marriage is a very serious thing here, not like in the USA where it is usual that people get married shortly (a year or sometimes less) after getting together. That's a big cultural difference, I'd say. And we're not romantic at all, no marriage proposals or anything like in the movies, that'd be too embarrasing for us, haha...
