Getting awesome photos of you in cosplay is actually super easy! All you need is a friend, a DSLR (borrowed or your own) and a lens with a fixed focal length! Thanks a lot to my amazing model Naraku for helping me with this tutorial!
Check her out on FB: NarakuCostumes
My equipment was a Canon 6D and a Canon 50mm/1.2f lens, though Canon T5i (700d) and a 50mm/1.8f does the same job as well for example! No need for expensive equipment. You can even borrow or share it with your cosplay friends!
Additionally I use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
The location was Druidenhain in the Fränkischer Schweiz, Germany.
Let me know if you have any questions! :)

Thanks for showing that photoshop's not an evil tool. Too often, I get comments from people on my pictures that say "That looks photoshopped" and I wonder what the big deal is. So what if it's photoshopped? That's how we can be creative with lightning, corrections and other fun stuff. I don't understand why it's considered "bad" to some people when photoshop is used. It's like they just discovered a big "secret" and want to blurt it to the world. "This girl uses photoshop to enhance her pictures!"

Photoshop get's a bad rep because of the model industry. I'm always open about that I photoshop the crap out of me in every picture. :)

The thing is photoshop can make things look unnatural in an unpleasant way. It can also, and in most cases, make things look more natural and pleasant, so it depends.
Out on a whim I searched "cosplay photography" on KZread and was led to this video and for such a brief video I have to say it was soo informative and I really learned a lot . so with that, thanks so much and keep it up :)
Having taken college Photoshop courses (many years ago on systems that are surely slower than my current phone), these tutorial that you guys put out are amazing and better than many of the classes I took. Thank you!
Another amazing photo tutorial!!! So happy to see you doing videos again.
You need to do Rye and Kylo there when it snows! That place looks just like the movie.
OMG thank you for this amazing tutorial
This was so helpful!!! Thank you! Especially telling us what equipment and software you use! :D I really appreciate it! Is there any chance you could someday do a video on how to be the model for the cosplay during the shoot? Stuff like lighting, posing positions, angles, do's and don'ts etc. Anything that might help if you don't have an experienced photographer to guide you :) x
The 50mm 1.2 is really a gem that everyone should have! If I had to choose only one lens to use ultimately I would pick it (aside from the 70-200 2.8 IS L)
You did an amazing job! Love it
With this quick video, I already learned 10 more things about Lightroom, thanks!
This is a very quick and easy to understand video! Thanks so much for posting something like this. Also thanks for posting the little tidbits about Adobe Lightroom!
So nice tips!! ^^ I love cosplay photography (and I dream with that camera, oh my gosh...) and that tip of the gradients in Lightroom is awesome!!! I edit and make everything with photoshop btw, but is nice to know all of this!!

Could you do a Video similar to this but how to pose for cosplay photoshoots? I love cosplay but have issues feeling (and looking) comfortable in any of the poses I copy from the source and can't find any natural poses!
Thank you so much! :D
Das war echt informativ! Hast du die Location im Allgäu genommen? Und Hündin ist einfach mega niedlich danke das du von ihm mehr rein bringst 😍
Thanks a lot for shearing
I personally won't open the aperture all the way open but just slightly close since usually lens isn't its sharpest when open all the way
If I want to take my own photos of myself do you recommend use those two programs or only with photoshop I’m ready?
You are so good.

Hi!

How did you copy the settings in light room and paste them onto another photo? I’ve been trying to figure that out and it’s been a struggle.

It's usually on the left lower side. There should be a copy settings tab.
