This video helped me so much. Did not know you need to add the vlans on the sw2 for sw1 to communicate properly with the router. Thanks!

It's awesome, concept completely cleared. Perfect...!!! One more suggestion though, If we add one more PC to any of the switch to the port which do not have any VLAN tag, that PC should not get any ip addresses from both the DHCP pools. Can we do that?

Hi sir. This video class was very interesting for me. The only constructive critic, and again this my opinion, is that you take the procedures very slow, which I get because of people who are entering the cisco world. Now here's what I still don't get it: On SW1 and 2, we only created vlans, with no ip address. In a way makes sense because they are L3 addresses. And also you binded switchports to vlans. However I didn't fully understand how this works. As far as vlan routing goes, I get that when you issued the encapsulation dot1Q command and the vlan tag that the router can understand what vlan goes to which sub-interface, but that's all. Thank you

Very good video I just subscribed into your channel I will share this video with my classmates,but I want to let you know that I follow all the steps but my DHCP protocol did not work because Im using the latest version of the packet tracer and according to this(or with the error Im getting) I need to use the (ip helper-address)command but I don't know how-or-where to use that command!??Thanks for taking the time to make this videos greetings and blessings from Costa Rica.

Fernando Alpizar make sure you have the trunk link configured on sw1 on fa0/24 also make sure you have BOTH trunk links configured on SW2. One that hooks up to the router, and the other one that goes to SW1. Also make sure that you have a cross over connection running between the 2 switches that are connected to eachother. Do not use a straight thru cable because the cross over is used when the two devices you are connecting are the same type.

What if we have total ten vlans then do we need to set 10 subinterface?
@CitizenPerkins
4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you need as many subinterfaces as you have VLANs. That's because each subinterface becomes the Gateway (or Default Router) for each VLAN/Subnet. That's also why he NAMED each subinterface with its VLAN name (int FA 0/0.10 for VLAN-10).

I also had this problem. I think inter-VLAN routing must be setup by having the trunk link allow VLAN 10-20.

@@SamAndrew27 -- That usually means you made 1 tiny boo-boo. It should work if you: - Did a "no shut" on R1's int FA 0/0 - Made 2 subinterfaces on int FA 0/0, one for VLAN10 and one for VLAN20; turned on dot1q encapsulation and assigned IPs - Created 2 VLANs on each switch (vlan 10; name SALES; vlan 20; name ACCOUNTS) - Changed the port on the switch that connects to the router to a Trunking port (switchport mode trunk), then the default is for your trunk to carry ALL VLANs. - Also, changed the ports any PCs (or VoIP phones) are using to be Access ports with the correct VLAN assigned (ex: switchport mode access; switchport access vlan 10). - Checked that your PCs picked up a valid DHCP address (and not one that starts with 169.254).
