Yes and a head and intake design change. Ls3 dropped cathedral ports for rectangle port heads. Both are great engines but mod for mod the ls3 generally is going to make 40 to 60 more rwhp. That said you can put rec port heads on the ls2.

It was added information regarding differences between the LS2 and LS3, try to keep up. BTW I have owned a 08 C6 Z06 for several years now, and am well aware of the engine my own car has (even has fixed heads).

@@YEOTTI it has been amazing, I daily drive the car on a 156 mile commute, and even after 3 years I still look forward to the drive every day. The fix was about $5k based on where I had it done and how. I had a dealership fix it, under an extended warranty where I had to pay half or about $2.8k; as the warranty company only wanted to machine the stock heads they allowed me to upgrade at my cost. The car has been great in the 30k miles since the heads were fixed, and with just ported fixed heads, Vararam, and a tune put down 508 rwhp (on a bit of a happy dyno since that same dyno read 463 rwhp stock). The cost of the repair will of course vary with the options you choose, but generally runs between $2.5k -$5k range depending on head choices and whether you do the swap (labor) yourself. Good luck!

Very nice Z06! I picked up a clean one owner base 3LT 2009 convertible 6spd a couple of years ago for $21k and the previous owner had already had a professionally built 7.0L LS3 based engine installed, long tube headers, corsa exhaust, short throw shifter, wheels and tires, etc. Makes 550rwhp and I couldn’t pass up that deal. Some days I long for the wide body looks or the cool factor of a Z06...but then I put the top down, row through the gears, and realize what I have is pretty awesome!

"Base C6 Corvette vs C6 ZO6 Corvette?" Easy, buy a C6 Grand Sport.🤭 Joking aside. You can't beat the LS3 for reliability and performance. Remember, it has the same bare block as the ZR1. Save the Wave🙋🏼‍♂️

Agreed, but I wasn't saying to buy a ZR1. The GS would be the better choice at a price lower than the ZO6 ='s a better bang for the buck. But if the GS's wide-body costs you more than you want to spend, get a 2008 or newer base C6. They all have the same remarkable LS3 engine.

Peter Carey grand sports from what i’ve seen go for around 30k which around the same price as early year c6 z06s so for me personally choosing between a z and a GS is a no brainer...

I'm kind of going the same way I like the generation C7 Z06 but I'm not sure I want a supercharger it's just something else to go wrong I've been going back and forth between them. I know it will be a Z06

The LS7 horror stories about the valve drop issues aside (reason enough to leave that one alone) ... I fully enjoy my C6 LS2

I am partial to an LS2 or LS3 Z51... MUCH cheaper than a Z06, and with a couple bolt-ons, cam & a tune, you have a street monster with a lot of coin left in your pocket. Not that the LS7 is a bad motor, but the LS2/3 is just more reliable.

True but the base cars are stout enough to kill someone new to sports cars East enough as well. The confidence in the turning on a decent tire is so high. I’m a huge proponent of people starting with a mustang gt or camaro ss they’re so predictable. For a very young driver I like to recommend the old 2v mustang. She’s slow but feels fast, parts are cheap, and the car will teach you most of what you need to know for the faster cars.

With traction control the power is pretty manageable. Its saved me several times already.

I think for a lot of people who are concerned with the ls7 engine but want the wide body and removable top and other stuff the grand sport is a great fit. Little more expensive because theyre 2010-13. Me personally Im looking for the Z06. I want the LS7 and super light weight 3147 curb.

C6 GS, for sure! Get the looks, handling and the power!

Both are great values right now. The zr1 is becoming a great value. The gs is the only one that’s in a weird limbo. On a budget I’d recommend an ls2 z51 package car. Otherwise you could save a bit and go ls3 z51 package or pony up and do the heads and throw a cam into a z06. My ls3 with a cam and supporting mods is a mountain monster but an ls7 with a similar setup including heads would be nuts!

i’m 18 so i think im going with the c6 base for the budget . sporty enough and they are great cars regardless that have a great amount of power .

Valve guide issue is very important and a 2-3 for a repair is very concerning

The deal breaker is you cant remove the roof on a Z06 or take it down either and being able to remove the roof and simply store it in the rear so easily .. That is what driving a corvette is all about man..

They are really good cars, C 6 LS3 and 7 litres Corvettes are the ones that in my opinion will hold value more than a C7. As you mentioned the issue of the valve is an easy fix or buy package from Texas speed or RPM, and you will have a reliable monster. Even the LS3 package you will have a 500+ wheel HP car. C6's are lighter than C7's. They do not suffer from displacement on demand with the hydraulic issues on the lifters. The C6's are very simple car, analog cars. That's why people love them. Don't be afraid to put miles on them, I rebuld one Ls engine after 265k. New Piston rings, rod and crank bearings, usin the old pistons rods etc. They are so good, after that ready for 200k more miles.

@@CaylebPletos so do I, I doesn't matter who you choose both are great, the difference is the Texas speed manufacture their own parts, dyno and tune. RPM have their kit manufacture by other companies. 650 hp after a kit installed, naturally aspirated in a 7.0 litre at 7k rpms priceless 👍👍👍👍

I do think the grand sport and the z are pretty close in price enough that many people are opting for the z. But yes I do notice that as well the z06’s have been gaining some clout lately and the price hasn’t really gone down. Which is another reason to opt for the z since you won’t loose much if you decide to resell

@ 3:10 the LS2 is a 6.0L.

Don't forgotte, zo6 doesn't come in automatic. If you have a wife / girlfriend. Makes a big difference.

2005-6 had the 4L65 and 2007-up had the 6L80

The valve issue and no convertible is what stopped me from purchasing the Z06. Went with a supercharged LS3 convertible. All the bells and whistles I wanted with more power.. Nice car though..

They did make the 427 Vette, which is essentially a convertible Z06. But they cost a ton due to how rare they are.

EDIT! Hey everyone, one element that I forgot to bring up in this video is the T-top and convertible that the base has to offer. The Z06 of this year does NOT come with a convertible option or a T-top option. Hope this helps!

The prices are up so much even on the base, 30k and up just for the base ls3

For anyone that sees this, buy the c6 z06. I made the mistake of getting the ls3. While I still love my base model I wish I would've forked up the extra money and just got the z06

I bought a cheap base model ls2. I’m planning on tearing everything out with custom components. I’m hoping for 1,600hp

2005-2008 ls2 is a 6.0 liter v8 pushing 400 hp and 2009+ had the ls3 6.2 with 430-436 hp. I love the c6 zo6 and c6 zr1. Before I bought my first two cars which #1 was my 2019 Camaro ss 10 speed for $50k FBO 650bhp n/an and #2 2018 Camaro zl1 6 speed 750bhp bolt ons for $60k. I was thinking of getting a c5 zo6 with the 5.7 ls6 405 hp for $20k with 100k miles or $30k for a c5 zo6 with 40k miles. Both 2004 I was looking at. But too old for me. So then I got thinking of a c6 and I don’t like base model anything. So the ls2 or ls3 were out anyway and it all came down to a c6 zo6 and zr1. I can’t afford the c6 zr1’s in 2023-2024 as they’re $90k-$130k at most. Definitely no c7’s I don’t like them and their 8 speed auto and 7 speed manual. But I can afford now and even 2 years ago a c6 zo6 around the $50k mark even $60k my zl1 now is paid for. Still worth $55k to $60k

What is the valve issue and how can you tell if it has been done or not?

To be honest, there is no way to tell unless you open the motor, or have information from the owner or a car fax or something like that

Get the best of both worlds C6 Grand Sport (manual or automatic) they’re both great to play with and drive for a lot less than the Z06 .

Buying a Z06 would be scary. That engine valve mishap that could happen at anytime pushes a lot of people away from it. That would be too costly, which the speaker said a couple of thousands. Wrong, try 10,000 plus dollars. You might have to replace the engine and parts of the exhaust also

Base model can come with the upgraded Bose system with the 3LT package.

Ls3 is 6.2 the z06 is the 427 7.0 I have an 05 ls2 auto

i would go for base with LS3 ... it looks sporty enough.. its fast enough. ls7 is remarkable engine.. but less reliable right? in the long term, LS3 will be easier and cheaper to maintain and look after with simply a lot more parts available at reasonable price.

You are correct the LS3 is much cheaper to maintain due to the LS7 unreliable issues with the heads

2 things. The LS2 is a 6.0 and a stock C6Z is not 450 to 470 wheel. Lol. Most I’ve seen in mid 440s

You can both eff yourselves. A base w/ procharger will handle your z06...And just to be clear, 505 crank vs. 600 wheel. Fuck you.

LS7 and weighs 3160 lbs, I see why you couldn’t go back down from that to a LS3 Vette I had to edit my statement after you addressed the LS7 valve issue, I’m glad you mentioned that because that is a big deal that needs to be included in your budget when considering which vette

4ever Young as someone who’s recently tried both, you NEED to try the Z06 before you make your decision... the Z06 is leaps and bounds ahead performance wise and you can more often than not not find them with the heads already done on the used market... given the grandsport is a bit more comfortable for long distance rides

I’ve noticed many people choose the Grand Sport as a turbo platform because the 6.2 takes boost better and you still get many performance track features. But yes I would 100% recommend trying the z06 in your shopping spree

Of course the C6 Z06 is a better choice and it’s a better car because I own a 2003 C5 Z06 and I know for a fact to spend a few dollars more you can get a better car and horsepower you want thanks

Im really in debate like you. I currently have a 2010 2ss with an zl1 supercharger, but I want a Vette as well because I have always wanted one. Im debating between a supercharged Grandsport or a cammed and heads z06. This may sound lame but I dont really want this one to be manual, but I am not totally against it. Love the car man!

To do a GS right with hard & heavy hp, you're well into 5-digit $$ numbers. I just got quoted from a race shop A&A supercharger, upgraded cam, titanium parts, dual valve springs, Kooks headers & X-pipe among other goodies with a tune at $16k.

This guy constantly taking his hands off the wheel is making me quite nervous. Lmao

C6 zo6’s are not $30k they are more like $30k at cheapest to $80k at most and $50k on average in 2023-2024

I have owned a C6 Z51 in manual and now I own a 2015 C7 Z51 2LT in Automatic the C7 Automatic Is way better but 2.5X the price... just like the C6 VS C6Z is x2 the price when money doesnt matter of course you buy the better car...

Few hundred on a intake and tune you would have the ls3 performing better then the ls7 z06. Also the head issue with the ls7 is a real thing valve drop. Get your heads done asap!

beg to differ, my neighbor has a GS, LS3 to the wheels stock is 370ish, Z06 are 440-460 on average, you'll need more than a intake/tune on a LS3 for the 6.2 motor to perform better. I got my 06Z back in february, the head issues is definitely a real issue, as is the clutch dropping to the floor which happened to me when i was driving it to the shop for heads/cam etc.

A few hundred bucks to bring an LS3 base model above the performance level of a Z?! A full Bolton LS3 will get it close to matching, but you need H/C or FI in order to pull on a stock Z06. And even then the suspension is still lacking.
