It bothers me how Europeans look down on the push-rod engine. They call it primitive. But do you know how many times that "Primitive" 7.0L beast won Le Mans? It's not primitive! It's elegant. It's the best damn V8 ever made.

I bought my 04 C5Z 8 months ago. At that time it had 51K on the clock. I’m at 62 now. Stock except for headers/exhaust/mild tune. (Previous owner installed those) Hands down the best car I’ve owned, and it only gets better. No issues whatsoever, except for a door lock actuator, which was cheap and easy to replace. Not the fastest car, nor the most refined, but you’re getting a bulletproof street car, which can handle a track with no issues, for less than the price of a new Civic. Not to mention the simplicity of it all; In a world of lane keep assists, automatic braking, automatic rev matching, etc, this is truly a car that gives you an uninterrupted driving experience. One of the last of its kind.

2004 C5 Z06 owner here. I got mine as the special le mans commemorative edition and I love it. I think it looks better then the c6-7-8. But for the best performance I would take the c6 zo6 anyday. A 427 7.0L LS7 will make any man smile any day. Plus it handles the best in my opinion. The C7 Z06 feels wrong as a track car with that supercharger displacing the weight and the early C7s had major issues with their engines. Also that stuff about the interior that everyone rags on? Massively overstated. The C5, while kinda cheap plastic and crappy leather, holds together and is actually pretty comfortable to ride in. I rode in it all the way from New Hampshire to Virginia. The C4 is much harder to sit in, but not many rag on it. Plus it is pretty easy to change a lot of the interior of the C5 to look and feel modern. I Love all corvettes though. I would take any of them over most other cars.

Lifelong Corvette fan here, so I really enjoyed this video! I just bought my first one (at age 55) a few months ago - and I went for a 38k-mile C6 Grand Sport - 6-speed manual Coupe. That got me the Z06's gorgeous wide body, wider wheels/tires & larger brakes, a suspension setup that's somewhere between the base C6 and the Z06, and the dry-sump 6.2L LS3 engine (hand-assembled at GM's Wixom Performance Build Center (before it was moved to Bowling Green) alongside the Z06 and ZR-1 engines. That put me squarely between the C5 Z06 and the C6 Z06 horsepower/torque-wise, but with the better interior, better overall fit & finish, and better ride quality of the C6 (though I still love the looks of the C5 too). I was tempted to go C6 Z06, but wanted to stay in the mid $30k price range and I didn't want to have to deal with the LS7 valvetrain issues (surprised this serious issue wasn't mentioned in the video) - even though it's relatively easy to fix (for another $3k or so). I've already autocrossed my GS at a couple of events and plan to do an occasional HPDE. It's a sweet car!

Currently at 42k miles with no valve guide, head problems. Black on black with Forgeline wheels fitted with Michelin 345/30 non run flat delivering a much quieter, more compliant ride with better grip than oem Goodyear F1 eagles. In 2020, rotors turned, pads replaced with ceramic carbon composite delivered amazing stopping power with greatly reduced brake dust over oem pads. Clutch master cylinders have a propensity to fail. I'm on my 3rd. Purchased new, it is still a great car and still scary fast. ❤️

It has not lost any of its raw, American Corvetteness. Just ask anyone who's driven both or owned both. Just wondering but since when does adding a supercharger diminish its American muscle heritage. I am all about NA as well but when a supercharger fits...eg.SVT Cobra (Terminator) and SVT F-150⚡? Collectibles today. Anyway that's my opinion and you got yours.

@@Biebs74 : That's cool. Hang on to your Z because the manuals aren't coming back. l still have my '18 Z06/Z07 M7 that I bought during the summer of '18. Great car but I barely have time to drive it. I only have 15,998 miles on it now (though I'm leaving next Saturday for a 1,200+ mile road trip). I wouldn't mind checking out a C8 Z like you did to see how it compares. But like you I don't have any plans to get rid of my Z. Not to mention the fact that I think the C8 Z06 prices are ridiculous but that's another story.

I would love to see this same format with a C5, C6 and C7 base model. I drive a C7 manual with no Z-51 package and no magnetic ride control and I think it is an amazing bargain performance car. I even tracked this car and had a blast.

Awesome comparison of the three Generations.. My wife and I did a frame off restoration of a 1963 Corvette Split Window. It's a 327/340 hp with power windows. In January 2018 we bought a 2016 Stingray with 12,200 miles on it. It's an 8 speed automatic. Love the 1963 but what a difference driving the 2016 Stingray. Not a Zo6 but drives and handles GREAT.Love them both.

(In my area) C4 owners are on crack. Some ask 5k,some ask 15k for what's essentially the same car. C4 zr1s are worth about 25k. You can get a solid c5 for 15k. A solid c5z for 20k. You can get a solid c6 for 20k. A solid c6z for 30k. A solid c6 zr1 for 60k. You can get a solid c7 for 40k. A solid c7z for 70k. I've been seeing c8s going for right around 120k used. Absolute crack.

Bear in mind, the Nurburgring in 2003 was standing start and that's 2003 era rubber. Put Cup 2's on it and a flying start and you've got 15 sec across a lap at the ring, for certain. I've owned 7 Corvettes, and do mostly C5 and C6 content on my channel...even have some parts specifically for those cars coming, available nowhere else. I am glad this video did the car justice or I'd have to get live...lol.
