This is the EXACT information I was searching for. So many of these LS7s end up with full heads/cam/intake packages when they go in for this fix (and I obviously see why), but I was looking for the cost if I wanted to simply remedy the issue with good components and not go for an all out 600 RWHP build. Additionally, Speed Inc is the most local to my state, so this video knocked it out of the park for me. Thank you so much!

If you have ever so much as entertained the thought "should I go ahead and do a cam?" - the answer is 100%, yes, do it. It's worth doing while it's already apart... Even if it is only a slightly different from stock spec'd cam, it's the time to do it. (Remember: you don't have to go for a huge, choppy cam) Doing an aftermarket camshaft affords a good chance to upgrade to a more robust timing chain/sprocket set, as well, for extra "insurance"...or even to just replace yours with a 0 miles oem timing set, which is not much of an added expense, especially for how important of a component it is! So yeah, unless you're CERTAIN that you'll only want a factory ls7 cam - like...forever - then definitely take this opportunity to go ahead and do an aftermarket camshaft while you do the valve guide stuff. 👍🏻

  • @therealjoshtodd

Never heard of headers making a difference except for power... Interesting statement. Anyway, yes, headers - in conjunction with an intake and a tune - can give significant gains in the neighborhood of 70 rwhp. If you ONLY bolt on some headers, it won't make much difference as it takes a tune to make the difference and it needs to be able to breathe with an intake

But even better, one of their lead techs has same also, races it, while driving across US. He's met the developer of the LS7 at SEMA. Call Davenport Motorsports in Calgary and ask for Namala. He estimates they've done about 50 cars with now returns. Namala answered all my valve/guide ect questions in full confidence. Mine Z06 is booked for end of April :-) P.S. my buds cars has plenty of hard track days with about 700 rear horse, and no issues. I'm looking for stock reliability, and feel confident this is THE fix. Best of luck Thor

You were blessed. I’m scheduled to have basically the same thing done in the Baton Rouge area and my cost is $6,034 dollars. Car was sent to Lingenfelter 8 months after it was purchased new and they installed super charger, cam, headers and full exhaust. I can not phantom why they didn’t address the valve issue while this work was being done. My cost is a little higher because the supper charger has to be R&Rd. I hate to spend that much but If the engine were to get ruined I couldn’t afford to spend 20k plus right now to repair the engine. Great video.

I was looking at doing this to an ‘07. Emailed and called GM and Vette specialty shops that I trust and was wanting to fix the issue because of all the info on the internet. I was ready and willing to spend for the peace of mind. They wouldn’t take my money and said it’s a non-issue with my year/VIN. If I wanted to upgrade the parts, that’s another story. I still have mixed feelings about the whole situation.

Everything there is a reasonable cost. All you save is the shop labor of $750 Idk why they used copper plugs? They dont last al long as platinum. 25k miles for std copper. Really Gm should pay to have these heads fixed, but i guess like ford with 5.4L 3 valve engine they won't cover their own upgraded parts.

Truly expensive hobby, but it doesn’t make any sense to go through all of that labor and not upgrade to a better set of heads and cam, headers, and exhaust at least do the upgraded heads and camshaft. You could do the headers and exhaust yourself, but it is a very expensive hobby. and you missed a great opportunity at the end of the video to show the car laying down a patch.
