    @erepsekahs a liver blow is one of the most effective blows at debilitating and flat out shutting your opponent down. Fighting through not one, not two, but three liver kicks(and punches) would be like gettin gut shot then standin up to fight.

    @@erepsekahs If you have ever felt the unfortunate pain of being hit in the liver you would agree that the pain is insane. It has a delay to it.. You take the shot and about 3 seconds later your liver seizes up on you...If you put a gun to my head and gave me the choice to be hit in the liver or the nuts I would have a hard time deciding lol.

    And he's also bigger and taller than 98% of the people he's defeated. Pretty much like Jon Jones situation: already very gifted but he's also blessed with OUTLIER physical attributes that put 99.9% of all others at a disadvantage. Not sure how great that is, on a per unit, per capita basis... compared to someone very small like Demetrius Johnson who's almost always fighting as the smaller guy, even if his opponents also are elite...

  • @The_Sacred_Grove

    @The_Sacred_Grove

    Жыл бұрын

    @@kiabtoomlauj6249 Jones is far larger than Bas, and Bas isn't as much of a weight bully as you're making him sound. All but 2-3 of Bas' opponents were within 3-4 inches of height of him--in several cases having Bas as the *smaller* fighter--which is entirely normal for any weight class/organization, and lots of people were gasheads at the time. ""FightMetric, the official statistics provider for the UFC, ran the numbers on Rutten’s career. They back up the Dutchman’s inclusion into the UFC Hall of Fame and then some. In the 4-hours, 27-minutes and 8-seconds he spent as a pro fighter, Rutten scored 13 knockdowns without getting dropped himself, his significant strike accuracy was 70.6%, the highest FightMetric has ever recorded, attempted a record 53 submissions and successfully swept his opponents a record 46 times." " You don't get these stats from simply being tall or heavy. Jon Jones is a genuinely towering human being, at 6'4 and a freakish 84 inch wingspan, his natural benefits are far beyond Bas'. I'd also like to note that Bas fought at the same weight classes as Jones, where Bas was notably smaller than Jon. In today's sport, Bas' height is literally seen on fucking welterweights. Bas being 6'1 at Light Heavyweight/Heavyweight is actually very modest now. In today's sport, Bas' body would land him in Middleweight. Your characterization is simply not historically true, and doesn't account for Bas' incredible stats and abilities. Putting that aside, I agree that Mighty Mouse is incredible, and he can't be appreciated enough. Additionally, I think weight bullying (and therefore weight cutting) is one of the dumbest parts of this sport, and should be fucking banned. Lastly, I think having reach and height caps on weight classes would force the sport to have far more fairness, honour, and lead to much better health standards for the athletes. A sport built on unfair advantages is hardly sportsmen-like.

    MMA, especially back in the bare knuckle days, in the end is safer than boxing, Kick boxing and MT. The Boxing gloves are not designed to protect the fighters head, they are designed to protect the fighters hands. With padded gloves you can throw hard punches without worry of breaking your hand, in bare knuckle you have to be selective and take the power off. Yes, bare knuckle, and 4 oz MMA gloves cause more cuts and blood, but the brain damage is minimized. With MMA you also have more brain safe ways to lose, submissions, even chokes cause no damage to the brain if the ref is doing his job, you just lose track of time lol.

  • @bosnbruce5837

    @bosnbruce5837

    Жыл бұрын

    @@andrewwood9067 I don't think that's it. You might have an iffy point that a boxer does not need to be concerned about hurting his hand. But then again I remained unconvinced that MMA fighters are concerned with the hand injury so much that they would willingly tone down their punches. Also, you're wrong about the potential brain injury: Padded gloves will hit you with less force. Your head and brain will accelerate more gradually than if the exactly same punch was delivered w/o padding. Boxers are more proficient with punches than mma fighters and their volume is higher so that might even out or tip the odds of traumatic brain injury. The main risk comes from uneven pairing (skill, weight) like we saw in the early UFC days.

    It is ruthless and violent but I personally enjoy this fight style as well as technical fights. These bouts take technical skill but brutality is massive. These men know and agree to give and take punishment.

    John look into palm strikes. I was a kick boxer and now a striking coach for mma fighters. Some of these were open hand slaps but palm strikes are different animal. To the nose or right under the chin are a couple favorite spots, the body is nice too, especially the liver.

    Bas Rutten was called a cyborg for his strength and painlessness in Pancrase. I don't remember who he fought against, but he won and the ring doctor was called and he was taken to the hospital on a stretcher, expressionless. In fact, it turns out that his leg was broken in the middle of the fight. In a martial arts magazine at the time, a reporter wrote that he looked like a cyborg.

    What makes Bas so intimidating was how strong Katsuomi was. If you haven't felt it before, I can tell you a liver punch is complete shut down of pure pain, like a migrane in your balls, Katsuomi handled several brutal fight-ending kicks and hooks right to the liver. Absolutely inhuman, now imagine how scary the man who took him down must be.
