    An amazing unboxing, Sam. The Adderley Hall was a beautifull model, with a very nice perfomace, an impressive detailing. You were right with the value, it is a great price for a budget loco that has more detail and a better perfomance than the rest of the Railroad models, even its original was still worth it for being such an excellent engine. Anyways, I hope you're having a good time, and I'll see you very soon.

    yes, the Halls were two cylinder locos, The tender on Olton Hall is also a Collett tender (a 4000 gallon tender whereas Adderley Halls tender is only 3500 gallons), it was developed a few years after the original 3500 gallon tender to give the locos more range. what an outstanding loco, extremely tempted to get my own now especially for that price. if it were possible I would give the performance a 6/5 ;) great review mate.

    Hi Sam , only just come across your channel and I must say I am enjoying your reviews which for me coming back into the model railway world after a 15 year break they are very informative. I think the Hornby Railroad range are excellent value and I am looking at getting the DCC fitted version as still a little nervous of opening up a loco to put it in myself. What are your views on the Railroad coaches ?

  • @SamsTrains

    @SamsTrains

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hi Kevin, thanks very much for that, always lovely to hear! Generally speaking the Railroad coaches are re-issues of much older rolling stock. Usually they're very well made, cheap, and less fragile than the main range. They're also much less detailed, but if you're looking to get started fast and cheaply, they're a great option! Thanks for watching - Sam :)

    The Hall Class is my favourite steam locomotive. I love them, because they look so cool and unique. I couldn’t find them by Hornby before, but saw a couple by Bachmann, that looked really nice. I love the Hall Class, I saw Pitchford Hall at the Great Central Railway, and Dumbleton Hall at the South Devon Railway. Some people say that the Modified Hall Class is the same sort of locomotive, but no, they are Hawksworth designed locomotives, but they look relatively similar. 258 were built I think, with a further 71 Modified Halls built too.

    Hello again Sam, That is an outstanding review of the Hornby Railroad Great Western Hall Class. For a Hornby Railroad Model, she does have a bit of good detail, the running performance is excellent & so is the strength. I can see 5 Great Western 4-6-0s in the sidings and the odd one out is the Hornby LMS Patriot 4-6-0 Bradshaw. £49.00 for Hornby Railroad Tender Engine is amazing, Hattons are really good with their bargains and you got a great bargain, oh speaking of bargain, yesterday I've treated myself to a Hornby Edward the No.2 Blue Engine from Rails of Sheffield, their original retail price is £87.99, but they are selling them for £49.50, an excellent bargain. I give your video as usual. 10/10 5 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 😉

    Good review of a real bargin there Sam. Interestingly they have modeled the water scoop in the down position ready for a trough. Never seen that before. Jon PS, re the tenders, both are collet tenders, but 4901s is the 3,500 gallon 'small' tender based on the earier Churchward design, where as the others are the standard collet 4,000 gallon tenders that were introduced in the early 1930's on the Halls (previously they were used exclusivly on Kings and Castles. In the end most if not all the halls ended up with the standards and the smaller ones removed and fitted behind new build smaller locos like the Manors and the 2260 class Collet goods

Before that, in Llangollen Station Shop, I bought a Bachmann Model of another scrapped Hall, Sketty Hall. @@SamsTrains I have run my Bachmann and Hornby Hall Class engines together. They both run smoothly, couple up to rolling stock as slowly as they should and have a perfectly slow start, when it comes to pulling a train slowly forwards. Both are excellent performers when gradually building up speed, and running at normal speed. They gave me no problems at all, when I gave them a test run, and have performed excellently ever since. Overall, I give them 20 out of 10. See if you can top it.

    the halls were a 2 cylinder loco but the valve gear was inside the frame intact the county which were the last gwr 2 cylinder locos matched the power of the 4 cylinder castle and they were effectively a hall with a 8f firebox and bigger boiler which is the basis of the new build. the tender on oltan hall is the Colett and the other one is a churchward tender.

    Difficult to tell on a phone screen, is there a thin black line in between the two orange ones on the cab side and tender side? I'm also not sure whether the red and black shading on the tender lettering is missing, and black shading on the buffer beam. Definitely wouldn't expect any of that on a Railroad loco, but helps to justify the three star rating. I also think the back of the tender should be lined in this livery. I'm wondering if the tender is an older moulding than the loco with the moulded handrails. It is a Churchward 3500 gallon tender as opposed to the Collett 4000 gallon tender fitted to your other Halls.

  • @SamsTrains

    @SamsTrains

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hi there, as far as I can tell, the black lining only appears on the boiler/firebox - the gab between the lining on the cab and tender is just left unpainted, so the green shows through. I was wondering that too - but I can't find this tender on any of my older Hornby models - definitely quite odd that! Thanks for watching - Sam :)

P.S there is a Bachmann on the Hattons bargain page now ;) May i ask you a question on the controllers you use? as i only have the very basic Hornby controllers from the starter sets,is it worth splashing out on a better controller like a Gaugemaster or Hornby controller?Do they improve the running of engines? Thanks Sam.

    Hi Michael - I felt much the same - very surprised and very pleased! I use the Hornby HM2000 controllers - overall they're a little less harsh than the Hornby starter set controllers, and I hear the Gaugemaster controllers are very good too - If you use either of those, you will notice quieter running, possibly smoother running too! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)

    You're almost right about the "design clever" aspect. This Hall class, as well as the P2 and the Duke of Gloucester, were all intorduced in 2013 with two standards of detail. A basic model in the Railroad range and a more detailed model in the main range. There was a backlash because the compromises made for the Railroad versions meant the main range versions weren't up to the standard of the usual new toolings.
