So well summed up to this version without selling Judy up the river. The Beaty of it all is have these two singer singing there own version and each being beautifully valid in there own right. That is called spoilt for choice. I appreciate you love for and there voices and the music.

I have not heard miss Streisand sing this song. Wow! Her own remdistion of the song, two great vocals Judy and Barbara, Judy once said when you sing a song make it your own and miss Barbara did. Great performance . Nothing else to say from this very very talented singer. One of the best we have ever had .

When they worked together, Barbra and Judy discovered they shared a favorite composer: Harold Arlen (aka Hyman Arluck). He composed the songs for "The Wizard Of Oz" and a number of the songs, including this one, for Judy's version of "A Star Is Born" in 1954. Barbra appeared on the only album recorded by Arlen where he sang, 1966's "Harold Arlen Sings (With Friend)". She duetted with him on "Ding Dong, The Witch is Dead" and sang "House of Flowers". ("House Of Flowers" was a play based on a book by Truman Capote. Truman and Harold wrote they lyrics for the songs and, of course, Harold the music.) I don't know if it was the same night as this performance, but when Liza Minelli attended one of Barbra's concerts during her '93/'94 tour, Barbra said something to the effect, "this is for your mother, Liza". Barbra also did a dedication to Judy prior to singing "Over The Rainbow" during her 1986 fundraiser/concert "Once Voice".

Ms Streisand also did a cover of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" at a concert in 1986, also very different from the many versions Ms Garland has sung, that might interest you.

Barbra, in her Prime, was the BEST. She wasn't quite her "best" in the mid 90s..but still Transcendly Beautiful.

If you want to hear her tour de force song you have to check out Make It Like A Memory from the Guilty Album. She channels some Patti Labelle realness in that song. You will not be disappointed. Hardly anyone reacts to it but everyone that does has been blown away. Love your reviews and your content! ❤

I love Cher. And she's a much better singer than even she seems to think. But that Bittersweet album is TERRIBLE. Cher is more than capable of singing those standards - and did many on her TV show - but the album arrangements are beyond awful. It's no accident that the album was a massive flop.

Would you do a video on Streisand's "Be Aware" from Burt Bacharach's television special in 1971? It's on KZread. She does "Close to You" with Burt and then "Be Aware" on her own.

I like Judy's version better as she highlights the song as much as she highlights her own singing. Barbra's version is in some ways more about herself than about the song and the work of Harold Arlen. I find the same thing happens when I listen to some of Celine Dion's work. It's Dion first and the song second. My apologies to both divas if they are offended.

And "add on" to my comments: to me Barbra is one of the most wonderful vocalists of all time. I have a number of her albums. Celine is one of my country's greatest singers. "Oh Canada!" Judy was one of a kind, a product of her own age. All singers have their strengths and weaknesses and that makes the world of music all the more interesting. By the way, I managed to attend live performances of both Judy and Barbra. Yes, I am an old fart.

@joshsmith4560 there is no argument that Streisand has better voice no argument here, but no need to tell you that when someone mentions this song tittle "Tha man that got away" Judy Garland's version will pop up, just because this song alongside Over the Rainbow, Have yourself a very merry Christmas, Get Happy, among other tune's Judy Garland owes them, they belong to her and fortunately only her. It is like to say that nobody owns People, The way we were among many others nobody but Barbra Streisand. This is simply the way it is..!

Garland was far better, a bigger sound - Streisand was too whiney, though Barbara's high notes - not exhibited here - were immense.

@@SS-do3zv Rubbish. Her voice was a nasal whine with zero agility. Her strength was sustained note holding and piercing notes in her high range. But flat foot singing - chest belting - Barbara has nothing in Garland, Franklin, Houston etc..

@@markdrinkwater1508that’s insane Barbra’s voice is in stratosphere. Garland sounds like she’s trying to yell with short sloppy notes that sound loud and clunky trying to carry a note with too much vibrato. She can’t even sing a D5 lifted for 19 seconds. Get out of here with that nonsense. Barbra’s voice is clearer and way more dynamic.
