Barbarian Invasion - Lost Factions - Total War

Ойындар

Welcome to some Lost Faction for Rome Total War: Barbarian Invasion which never made it into the game.
Here are the factions I think we were meant to have, after seeing the icons:
Moors and White Huns are for Certain.
Then maybe, Alans, Magyars and either a German Faction or another emergent Romano Faction?
What do you think they were?
We also have some Medieval 2 stuff, and possibly a hint at a Hannibal at the Gates Campaign, but for the original TW!

    At 3:16, the greenish-blue icon isn't actually a horseshoe, it's a torc, a piece of jewelry worn by many Celtic and Germanic peoples. The faction that was supposed to have this icon were the Quadi, who only appear as the name of a rebel faction in the finished game. Also the black shield on the guy at 4:55 reminds me of those beta Julii legionaries I sent to you, so I guess this guy is from a very early stage in the game's development.

    I had a theory that there was an early Middle Ages campaign planned for Barbarian Invasion, sort of like the Age of Charlemagne in Attila. It would explain why factions like the Moors and White Huns exist in the files. Maybe there would have been a campaign set after the Muslim conquests, with a Frankish Empire, Anglo-Saxon England, a new religion headed by the Moors, and a crippled Byzantine Empire trying to hold on to what they have against attacks from all sides.

    They are all named somewhere in the datafiles. The one with the torc (horseshoe) is for the quadi, the one with the horse for the iazyges and the other one for the marcomanni. There are towns for all of them as well on the campaign map (campus quadi, campus iazyges and campus marcomanni) Edit: My theory is that the Moors and White huns would be emergent in some way like the Ostrogoths, Slavs etc. And that they were cut because of the faction limit (You would only have 14 starting factions if this were the case). The Roxolani, Lombardi and Burgundi were added later probably as their replacements. My guess for why they left the other three out is because almost all faction would then directly border the WRE and the area beyond that would be quite bland

  • @francis6775

    @francis6775

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, I'm guessing that the 'Moors' in this case was a planned emergent Arab/Muslim faction. I guess the main issue is that they'd have emerged so late in the game (600AD) 250 years/500 turns after the start date, that they just couldn't be fitted in. It's a real shame, as an Arab 'horde' faction + the Islam religion would have added a whole new pillar to the campaign. Maybe two campaigns were initially planned? One in 363 AD, and one in 600AD?

    5:00 This guy looks like the dude from that early trailer, the one who makes the weird face after stabbing a barbarian. So maybe these were models made for trailers? 8:00 Corsica and Sardinia weren't lost during the First Punic War, but the Romans annexed them shortly afterwards. And then upped Carthage's debt when they complained. So that might've been an objective in a Hannibal campaign. And my guess on the quartermaster would be as an administrative agent that helps boost a city's income, probably with Management as their stat. Reminds me of dignitaries in Rome 2. Priest maybe boosted public order, since all temples do that. Maybe specific temples would train priests with certain bonuses, like a priest of Juno would give a health boost while a priest of Mars would give experience boost.

    @@Lichtenhammer Probably, though the quadi are now considered for either a proto slavic or northern thraco-illirian tribe often mistaken for germanic, many tribes residing in Pannonia, Moravia and the lands east of Elba were considered by default germanic back in the days. Now with the germanic shouvinism waning and the founding of new evidences those things are changing. Most powerfull exaple for this is the tribes of the Goti who are without any doubth the Getae/Geti of old, a thracian tribe. Those very Goti were one of the weapons of the Nazi propaganda for justifying their "reclamation" of old lands.

    TW Attila got it right when it came to magyar symbols. The main mythological symbols in Magyar culture are the Csodaszarvas (can be roughly translated as 'Wonder Stag')or Táltos Csodaszarvas (táltos refers to the fact it has eight legs, which had a sort of magical importance in Tengriist shamanism)and the Turul, the latter one they used in TW Attila for the Magyar faction. The stag motive was, while significant in magyar mythology in relation to the founding of the Magyar nation nowadays known by outsiders as Hungary (the name refers to the Onogur turkic bulgarians, not us) was also widely used by different Avar steppe tribes, so i consider the fact they used the Turul, which the Magyar kings originate themselves from a good choice. It's a symbol more specific to the magyars.

    Here’s some theories on the unknown factions:So starting off with the dark blue thing,it is probably the Alans like what the video says but it could be just another Germanic style nation and the green faction could also just be another Germanic faction because there’s all these campus cities that have there rebel names and one of those cities might of had its own faction like there might of been a Quadi faction of something but the more cool theory about the green guys is that it could be Gaul because a long time ago,the Germans migrated into Gaul and maybe if you conquered France,there would be an event similar to the Romano-British where they spawn in or it could just be another horde faction.The red faction in my opinion is probably the Visigoths because they were also a big gothic thing and they could also be a Nordic faction in a settlement they might of not added in Sweden or Norway because they are on the map and they are reachable.So those are my theories but I’m no expert so yeah
