    Just to clarify something in the video. I make it sound like gatherable food is a finite resource. As long as there are trees, more gatherables will always spawn. The point I was making is that if you have more gatherers than you do food spawning, they'll pick the forest clean and go idle. Thus, cutting my number of gatherers in half will not cut my food income by half while still yielding me two extra workers to help get the next phase of the town's construction complete quickly. Once the forest is at maximum or near-maximum density (which we'll get to in the next video), the gatherable spawn rate will be high enough to keep 4 gatherers busy year-round. Because (to my knowledge) deer spawning and behavior is not directly related to forest thickness, having 3/3 hunters would be just as effective with or without a fully dense forest so I kept all 3 workers in as I want the maximum income of both venison and leather; both are very useful in a town's early life.

    The other case of course is that at the beginning with around 10 or 15 citizens, you don't need full food production or variety yet, whereas you do need different people to be doing different jobs. So at the beginning at least it's definitely a case of you need to switch workers in and out to do different things to get the village going

    Nice insights. I *had* been putting my housing, stockpile, woodcutter, and barn in the same cluster where you're putting the blacksmith and tailor, but this video clearly shows that using a few forest squares for those buildings doesn't really choke your food at all, and the population boom you get from the quick development is extraordinary. Kudos.

    I'm a relatively new banished player and found your crossroads build in a written form on Reddit. I'm so glad I came and found the videos. There are differences between the written and your build here. Following this, I'm much more successful. Autumn year 3 with 7 laborers, ~1500 food, and built through the school. I have started to gather iron outside the forest because there was only one small deposit in. I wanted to say thank you because I have struggled with hard starts but prefer them for the flexibility in building. This is a great guide!

    You definitely want your own limits, but that limit depends on how you develop your village. But as a general example I increment food limits in 5000 and then later 10,000. The reason for that is I don't want my people bringing in excessive food when I need them to be doing labor type jobs. Of course the definition of excessive is up to you, but for me it's definitely possible to be making a lot of food sources in the early game. I don't need all that food compared to needing them to work at other jobs , but if I do need it then I increase the limit

    The CC mod still can start out this way , and as you get more villagers and more Production chains going, then you bring in the CC stuff ,so I don't think there's really any reason to do tutorial on starting out a new village with CC mod.

    Thanks a lot for the video. Quick question if you're still paying attention after all this time, there were several jobs where you checked to see if someone was educated. If they weren't, would you have tried to get someone who was, or just left it alone?

  • @pershop4950

    @pershop4950

    3 жыл бұрын

    The game picks and chooses who should work at a job. You have a little bit of influence by trying to put a house near the job, but the game itself can even change who lives in that house, so while you can try to change it, it's a bit more micromanaging than is necessary, only to be foiled in the next 30 seconds or 60 seconds when the game changes which villagers working at that job again. The main thing to know is that you want your educated percentage to be as high as you can, and even if you have a high uneducated percentage then just make additional jobs or buildings to match what you need in your village. For example in the early game , you can feed your people with uneducated farmers. As your population grows, if you still have uneducated farmers, then you just have to make another 25 to 30% more farms to keep up with the higher demand of food. It is possible to play a game of banished with iron tools or no tools and uneducated workers. You just have to adapt your production lines accordingly.

    I'm trying to follow your guidance in my own game, though I'm finding it much harder than you make it look. One problem I have is that for some reason I started with one less adult than you did. Nobody has died, so I assume there must be a slight variation possible in the mix of adults and children at the start. The net result is that it threw some of the human resource recommendations a bit out of kilter. Not a big deal but it made things a bit more interesting and delayed the final completion of the crossroad settlement. The other thing thats worrying me at the moment is that so far I haven't noticed any deer in the forest, and my hunters don't seem to be having any luck either. I'm hoping that will resolve itself otherwise the tailor will be a bit short of leather.

  • @Pinstar

    @Pinstar

    10 жыл бұрын

    Every seed is a bit different, and I've noticed that the seed impact your starting adult/child ratio. Deer availability can be an issue, but again it is difficult to control that. If you are short an adult, you can probably poach one worker off of your hunting lodge. Once a hunting lodge nabs a deer, it can't get another one for 2 months. More workers only increases the chances of getting one, rather than the raw output. 2 workers are almost as effective as 1 in that regard.

  • @MrDidz

    Pinstar I was watching your video and where you were getting over 1,000 food from your gathers and hunters. I was getting at most about 300 on my map, and that has pretty much been the theme on my game developed to the point where yesterday I began losing citizens to starvation. The bottom line seems to be that there simply is enough to gather or hunt on my map. I've seen gatherers wandering about doing labouring even though the food reserves are depleted. I suspect it was just a bad starting position or something.

  • @Pinstar

    @Pinstar

    10 жыл бұрын

    David Hatch Lacking deer spawns will make your hunters under-perform certainly. How thick was your initial forest? If it was too barren, you might not bring in much in the way of gatherables. There are some seeds that this start won't work on. One other alternative is to get your hunter and gatherer built ASAP but assign only 1 worker to each. They'll both be at maximum benefit per person while still leaving you plenty of other adults to build and gather resources.

    Although this video started in a spot where it was not mostly covered with trees, but there would definitely be more spots on your map that are probably covered with trees. This is the area where there's more stuff on the ground to be gathered.

    At this point i have the first question: Because u say a blacksmith and a tailor produce more, when they are educated, I try to have them educated. I have to bother with them living in the right house and being an educated person and after some minutes I may work this out. BUT as soon as i built one more house (or some houses) everybody searches himself a new job and a new home. People rotate and all of the sudden my blacksmith, who just was educated is replaced by someone else, who is not. I would have to bother with this everytime i build a new house. How can i make someone stick to the home and job i gave them?

    AND people marry laborers and builders all the time and those occupy my home-slots. For example i built the tailor and blacksmith and a schoolhouse like u did and then i built 2 houses so those people can move near their workplace. but two of them take 1 house each and marry a laborer so the third one has to move somewhere else. and people marry other people and THEN i think they can not move to their workplace anymore without taking their partner with them. and the partner may have a workplace somewhere else. those people are really dumb...

    DrawingGamingAndStuff currently the game tries to optimize the work load for maximum efficiency so if you need x amount of educated workers but you have less than that the game can't reach the optimal maximum efficiency. As it stands the player can't assign specific roles to specific people all the player can do is have the optimal setup.

    I don't make clothes because I don't use animal products in Banished. I just wanted to see if it was possible in the game. It is. I play on hard and nobody ever dies from the cold. They all have ragged clothes even hundreds of years in. I think they have to "warm up" more often so they are less efficient. I don't think there's any impact beyond that. If I could grow cotton I'd make clothes out of that. One game I bought sheep but I could not figure out a way to avoid mutton.

    Just one comment. Laborers, builders and unassigned workers build dirt roads. No need to "assign" a builder to build dirt roads. Stone roads do require a builder however. If the laborers are busy though, the builder will build the dirt roads. Be careful laying out too much road as this cannot be paused. All available laborers and builders will work on the road network before critical buildings such as blacksmith and tailor. I like the way you use the priority tool. www.banishedforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1602
