Brilliant, thank you ☺️now I feel I’ve seen what I was expecting to see on Saturday but was so disappointed in television coverage. I watched the full coronation ceremony and was looking forward to the parade. I wish the television people had filmed the parade in its entirety as it happened but it all seemed like a bit here, back to carriage, a bit there, back to carriage and so on. Confusing. This was great and I do know that even this was not all of the parade so it must have been fantastic. Thank you so much for this!😊

Agree 100%. Thank goodness for the numerous KZread videographers. TV coverage of the main parade was very poor, concentrating on the gold coach as it made its way along the route. The view was, of course, essentially the same wherever it was, whereas many elements of the parade remained invisible.

As a retired band teacher in Canada, I was fascinated by this. A couple of observations: 1). Marching bassoons are not common here. Baritone saxes, yes; bassoons, no. They’re considered a “stationary” instrument. 2). Some of the musicians must have had loose chops by the end, just like many marchers, musicians or not, were exhausted. You could see it in their strides and the carriage of their bodies. Well done.

As a band teacher you may not have the knowledge of military band history, especially with the Guards Bands. My father was in the Canadian Guards Band, I played saxophone withe the Ceremonial Guards Band and the GGFG. The Guards always dressed in red tunics and Bearskins (however in this video some of the Guards bands are not wearing bearskins, not sure why) definitely have bassoons on parade but it would depend on the musical program. Generally I would say the bassoons would be used for larger parades, ceremonies, Royal visits etc. On other occasions some bassoon players would play clarinet on parade for normal duties, however during my time with CG one of the bassoon players also substituted on alto sax. But the Grenadier Guards, Coldstream Guards and all other Regimental Guards Bands in the UK all utilize bassoons, I can't speak for Air Force or other branches of the Service. Loose chops? I would say no to that. Military band members undergo the same training as all other Service members. The ability to march and play, it's definitely not easy, but you learn and I think if you compare the Guards Bands with the others, you will notice how much better they are, louder, stronger brass and woodwinds, since the Guards are part of the British Army's King's Household Division and therefore perform more ceremonial duties.
