A couple of tips: * cut your flat on the short edge instead of the think edge - it stops the gullets of the saw teeth filling up and slowing the cutting speed. * cut box section on the diagonal - it keeps the loading on the blade consistent rather than going from one very thick cut, to two thin cuts, and back to one very thick cut. There is a KZread video somewhere that shows this reduces the cutting time about 30%. * for new blades, reduce your blade speed significantly for the first few cuts to break them in for a longer life.

Just downloaded your horse head template and I’m going to reduce the size by 25% and make it an indoor display, fingers crossed it’ll come out as good as the Ram skull🤞 keep up the good work👍

Great video. I appreciate showing the 45° cut as most reviews dont bother showing that. I'm more inclined to go for this bandsaw because the mitre is adjusted on the saw itself and not just the fence like most. Makes it even more compact because your not moving your length of material. Thanks again. Edit: And also cheers for including the saw blade size. Most sellers don't even specify this.

Finally got to see this, that’s a great tool and I’m surprised some of the other manufacturers don’t have an equivalent ! Scheepacc tools do exist here in Australia but are rare and I have not seen this one. I will look for it!

Thank you Paul. I like it. So far it's working well. One of the pivot nuts came loose and made it go out of alignment which broke my first blade the other day. Otherwise it's easy to fix, maintain, change blades and modify for a cheap price. Cheers J

Also, as I've got more experience cutting steel I've also started appreciating the cut width of various tools. The band saw has a fairly narrow cut of about or less than a mm, while most large discs (whether its abrasive or tungsten) tends to be several mm wide.

Hi Josh, my scheppach bandsaw has just arrived. On reading the manual, I noticed it says, "Never use liquid coolant for the metal bandsaw. The use of liquid coolants causes deposits on the rubber belts and reduces the cutting performance". The only thing they didn't say was, it's Not to be used on metallic materials 🤭 and by the way, my bandsaw came with 2 blades (purchased from Aldi online) made of steel, not rubber 🤣😂🤣 I've found the pump, tube and tap (thanks for the amazon link), so I'm just about to go on the hunt for a stainless steel baking tray and cutting fluid. Just got this saw and I have used it several times, I made the mistake of putting cutting oil on the blade , it was oil specifically for cutting and drilling, not cooling really, but it at first made the drive wheel slip, funny though I eased off the tension and it sort of came back to life. I gave it a good cleaning up after with break cleaning spray.. the test I did was to cut up a drive shaft , I must say it sliced through it like butter, the oil smoked a few times but it was almost cutting under its own weight.. I think the vice cam if kept clean will be okay but perhaps a thread would be a more robust solution, but let’s face it , it’s a home use tool that is just a handy tool for the workshop. It’s not for professional use all the time. I give it the thumbs up..

It's amazing that so many sellers out there that stick their own brand names on these saws , perhaps with slightly different colour casings and all claim them to be their own, I have actually seen probably 5 or 6 different versions of exactly the same saw...

Great video.

I have both saws except my bandsaw is just portable. I really want a bandsaw chop saw because it is cheaper to operate. One thing I can say about the evolution is it works good with coolant. I use a spray bottle and spray every 3-5 seconds and it keeps the temps down and helps make the blade last a bit longer. Thanks for showing this I might do the exact same thing cheers.

Great review! Interested in this saw as well, but the difficult adjustment of cutting angle worries me a bit. Did you find a way to those adjustable bump stops you mentioned?

Not yet but I will on the next job that needs lots of mitres cut. The adjustment is fine for now but just requires a few checks before proceeding to cutting which take a little time. Still faster to adjust than my other chop saw. Cheers J

Iv just bought the lidl parkside tools equivalent to this so im glad u think its alright as iv not had the courage to try mine yet, although i did put it together and had to tighten the bolt of the arm as it was a bit of a wobbler.... But otherwise seems good.... Definitely gonna have to get me a basting tray now!!

use one of these other brand but excactly the same, works great. one point is the clamp, i have repair it twice already. after some time it would not resist the pressure of sawing again the clamp it slips, the material comes lose and the saw will break. dismanteling the clampsystem welding the hole and drilling or filing will repair it. the more expensive one has a spindle to clamp, flawless.!

I have the evolution but i was building a gas forge so got an £80 circular saw for steel a few weeks ago its amazing went through 10 mm mild steel 18" across like a wood one going through 19 mm plywood , under a min easily , was contemplating a battery portaband but not sure i have any use for it , any reason you went plugged instead of battery ?

Hi. I loved my chop saw until I had to replace the blades more often than our industrial band saws at work and they get used every day. Your right though they cut fast with a new blade. This was the only band saw I could find with a decent chop stand for less than £200. All the battery versions didn't have a stand and I didn't see the point in making a stand when this one has one with it. A Milwaukee M18 was a temptation though. Cheers J

Interesting to spot this one in your back catalog, I have the 'aldi' version of this same saw from when they were selling them cheap. I wound up making a vertical stand for mine and designed a 3d printed trigger latch, and a little 'puck' that the handle fits over that made it very fast/easy to set it up on the vertical (both available on thingiverse). It hadn't occurred to me to try adding coolant for use with the table it came with, certainly an interesting setup I'll keep in mind.. Not sure if you're still using the tool a year+ on, after about a year of use the tire on the drive wheel of mine managed to come adrift and get itself wrapped around the axel and snap. It was a massive pain to source replacements so I wound up modelling the wheel/tire and making a 3d printed mold to cast a new one in rubber which is holding up well.

Thank you. Yep still use it especially on thick stuff. I want to make a stand for the suds tray with a depth stop for my new workspace. I love the fact it's light and can pack easily under my bench. Sometimes when I want to use it as a vertical saw I just clamp a bar in a vice and hang it on it. Did that I'm my aluminium pond cover video. Cheers J

If your 3d printer can use it, try using TPU to make the tyre. I'e even used it to make timing belts that will not snap!!! He mentions tuffsaws in this vid & I use them for wood bandsaws & bought blades for this bandsaw & they make a massive difference. I fixed the off center wheel by boring it out on my lathe & added shim stock to fill the gap!!! It's not the shaft, it's the machining on the cast wheel

Great review, I have a Milwaukee hand held bandsaw which I use in a stand and handheld and know how useful they are. This would certainly be up there as an alternative to a bigger floor mounted model when space is at a premium.. thanks Joshua

Thanks for the review. Is there any issue sitting the saw in the coolant? I know the water soluble cutting fluids contain rust inhibitors but just wondering if you've seen any problems after (I'm guessing) a few months?

Hi Matt. It's all still good. However I have noticed the bolt heads on top have started rusting but that's also because my shed condensates water in the air also so I think that would happen in or out of the tray. The cutting fluid I believe is preserving the rest nicely but iv started coating the bolt heads with a protective oil when doing maintenance and cleaning out the tray.

Good review Joshua. Looks quite accurate for a small machine big plus for hobby use is low noise compared to chop saw and it’s not spreading dust around ,add in the cheaper cost of blades also it looked like it got thru that fork tine easily. ? must have one

Thank you. I think with these type of items it's the quality of the consumerbles that is the key. Good quality blades and cutting fluid made the difference. The saw itself just needs to have enough torque and have enough adjustments to be straight which at £198 was great. My chop saw blades are far to expensive to use daily, too noisy and doesn't cut as accurately. Chop saws however do cut faster and cleaner when the blade is new. I expect the band saw blades to last me a few years before I replenish them. Our industrial saws at Suckley engineering use similar blades and last us months and are used every day. Cheers J

Hi, super nice demo, i got a similar bandsaw, but i have a problem that the blade often jumps off the wheel, inside the machine, even if i fasten the band tensioner pretty good. Did you ever have that problem?

Hi Martin. I'm very sorry to hear that but I've not had that problem... How long have you had it and could you take it back? If using cutting fluid are you using water soluble or straight cutting oil? It maybe an alignment issue although the bearing guides should keep the belt on. Are you sure your belts are the correct size or are they slightly loose at all? Cheers J

Great vid! Question: How is the vise clamp doing after a year? And with the cooling fluid don't you have problem due to the saw blade can slides on the wheel/disk? Hi. Clamp still works fine. No blade slipping. I don't have it in the tray anymore as I like to put it away after use but I still use cutting fluid as a spray because it makes the blade last a lot longer. No damage to the rubber on the wheels either. Lots of fluid will cause a little rusting depending on how diluted it is. Cheers J

Agree on the cut-off switch, not so much for safety but so you don't have to babysit the thing on thick cuts.

I have this saw and the only thing which sucks is the vice. After some time, it loses the hold and the rattling is inevitable. I have to modify it or make some different type of holding the piece.

On my Parkside (Lidl) version the blade slips under any load! NB since the blade supplied was actually broken inside the machine I bought a box of Milwaukee blades of the same dimensions, it is those blades which slip - could there be some subtle dimensional difference despite being nominally the same size?

Maybe or the tensioner is Brocken. I would check to see what movement the tensioner has. Or it's labelled for the wrong blades as a typo. Cheers J

Is the pivot adjustable enough to open the saw up to 90 degrees and use the saw as a vertical band saw? Could you make a table to secure in the vice?

The vice of these saws has been heavily criticised elsewhere. Mine does slip at times. The cam action is not the best design. Shame they never used a proper ‘screw’ vice. Overall I love my Workzone version of the bandsaw. It is identical. Great review 👏👏👍😀

Hi Alan. WD40 is no good as a cutting lubricant. I noticed a big difference when using it for drilling and then switching to soluble cutting oil. Your better to use just water than WD40 but it will rust exposed metal obviously. WD40 is great for most things just not cutting. Cheers J

I've got a cheapy HF on a SWAG v3.0 and it works great. I was about to get that Evo for 500 and saw how much the blades cost. I'm just gonna get me another saw with a horizontal base, you can't beat the bandsaw blades. Seriously, $120 a pop on those blades and they last less than the bandsaws, forget it.

Tuffsaws are excellant, I use their bandaw blades for my Joinery business and they are excellant quality. Scheppach use to be a name of quality in the Woodworking business but like many companies it's all made in China/Taiwan now. It never surprises me how many Machines are made in China using the old European names from once quality companies but Chinese quality (or lack of) rather than European quality. Guess people just want cheap rather than quality tools and machinery , look short term rather than longterm . Buy twice cry twice as they say. Really enjoying this channel since subscribing.. 🙂

Nope. You've got to be careful not to get liquids in the electronics I guess. So far all has been fine using proper cutting fluid. Bearings and seals are so far fine and haven't seen any degrading on the rubber wheels as of yet. Bands will last far longer and cut better if you use cutting fluid in my opinion. Cheers J

Just had this video pop up great vid i like the coolant idea i dont have a bandsaw but have used battery one's and a few corded the company i workfor hire in for certain things i personally have a makita 18v 150mm metal cutting saw this gets a lot of use very handy i use 136mm blades cheap ones on ebay also have a evolution 230 metal cuttins saw and a evolution 355 saw all great the 230 is a lump though i get most of the blades of ebay you can get good prices i put cutting wax on the blades seems to help

Sorry in advance if this is a blindingly stupid question - but do any of the metal 'filings' get carried by the fluid into the pump and ruin it? Or are they relatively so heavy that they settle out before reaching the pump?

Hi. The filings are small enough to pass through the pump no problem. The way is positioned makes it difficult for filings to enter anyway. I did think to add a filter but found it unnecessary. Cheers J

I bought a saw based on your clip. thanks alot. I just have a few questions. Has the cooling liquid caused any slipping of the blade? Have you done anything about keeping the swarf out of the pump? Would you still recommend adding the cooling? Thanks Mark

Hi. Not had any slipping. Not done anything about the pump yet. It has gotten blocked in the tube a couple of time but a quick blow and it was fine. I will add a filter of sorts at some point. Only issue I had which broke my first blade was the pivot nut came loose once and so it came out of Alignment. Otherwise it's great and been using to cut all sorts. Cheers J

I had this model sent it back within a month. The blade wouldn't stay on, It wobbled like mad. Didn't cut square, when the blade flew off it took out the guide bearings. The drive wheels have bronze bushes not proper bearings which may explain the wobble.

I got a Chinese blade for the evaluation cost £20 had it for a while now use it every day so we’ll worth it 👍

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's not advisable to using cutting fluid or coolant with these saws, as it will mess up the rubber tires on the drive and idler wheels. Though I do like your pump and tray design. I just have misgivings about long term condition of the tires. Full size bandsaw wheels are all-metal, so don't have that issue.

Using a grinder with a cutting wheel takes a lot of skill to get it right, whatever the angle the cut is at. These bandsaws are more accurate and convenient of course, but there are times only a grinder can be used i.e. large box, large angle iron or I beams etc.. A skill noone can overlook really so don't 'write off' a grinder straight away for your workshop.

Josh, do you still like the Scheppach saw after four months now? Thinking about buying one for my workshop ...

I love it. I've used it lots recently and not change the blade once. Still haven't put adjustable stops on it yet but will soon.

I’ve been looking to buy a metal cutting band saw for a while now but I haven’t been able to find anything at a decent price here in the US if anyone knows of a good brand where I don’t have to spend 2000 that would be cool

Apparently Harbour freight does one but not sure if it comes with a stand. Milwaukee does a stand for theirs but it doesn't do 45° cuts last time I looked. It maybe a standard hand held and a DIY Chop stand until something comes available.

I have a very similar setup made by King Canada. The saw ( KC-8377) and stand (SS-8377) come separately. I have no idea if they are distributed in the US, but maybe worth a check? I bought mine at KMS tools. Maybe they ship across the border? I had three of the same issues with mine: the wheel wobble, the vague angle setting, and the skew at the bottom of a long cut. Not surprising as I think they may come from the same factory. :) I found that supporting the saw through the latter parts of a long cut pretty much eliminates the skew. Seems as the body swings down, the increased weight causes the cut to go a bit sideways. I use a spring clamp on my trigger - open to other ideas for that... Apart from those things though, it has worked great and has been a very good value.

Aren’t these meant to be a dry saw ? Won’t adding fluid make the blade slip ?

Nope it's the same blade type we use on our industrial saws at Suckley engineering which are all lubricated. I would also suggest lubricating a chop saw even though they are dry. Just not with WD-40 and use instead proper cutting oil.

Most portabands are run dry, it depends on the drive traction as most will slip if lubricated or cooled etc👌🏼🤙🏼

hello, after 10 months of use, what can you say about the lubrication. does it damage the blade drive rollers? I have the similar model of the Parkside brand but the user manual advises against lubricating the blade. Thank you.

Just bought one 🤞 I have a dewalt 355mm drycut but cutting any thick material just roasts the blade , so I bought a 250mm cold saw for doing solid stock .. blades are half the price of dewalt… only problem is it’s increadibly unportable 🤣🤣 . Fingers crossed this fills the gap 🤓 they’ve been out of stock almost since you made this video 🙄😖 .. just saw one pop up for under £200 and bought it🤪

Well impressed with it 🤠.. it even fires the chips forward so thier easier to sweep up without having to move the saw 👌🤣🤣 I’ve apsolutelyy hammered the blade . Cutting chromed steel ( which destroys high speed carbide tips ) thru welds thru carbon steel pipe and it’s only lost 4 teeth 🦷 .. probably just the soft ones near the weld 😉.. thanks for pointing this saw out to me 😇👌☺️

@@joshuadelisle Yes, that makes them cheap on the second hand market, everybody wants a bandsaw, but for 250mm cutting capacity bandsaw blades and the saw itself are rather expensive, powerhacksaws in this size are traded for around 300€ without shipping and the blades cost less than 20€ They are very obsolete by now, but if you have a limited budget and the need to cut large stock they are still a good option.

For 200 pounds u couldn't go wrong a brilliant little saw

I have the same saw. The clamping gave up clamping after 2 weeks and the fact that the blade is cutting away from the fixed fence, is a idiotic construction failure! But yes: the blade is good.

So it's worth the money? It was 1 / 3 of the price from some other brand.

to me it is. works well, cheap enough to modify if it needs it, simple enough to fix most problems if it breaks. will have paid for it self quickly. might not last as long as another brand with industrial use. cheers J

And of course, Evolution use their own spindle size so you can't use blades from other manufacturers.

They have a good blade though, best on market for price and Quality and even come in better than the expensive brands. Check in KZread for people testing blades. You'll be very surprised at Evolutions Blades

Unfortunately, blades don't last long with this saw, I've replaced 6 blades in 4 month since I've bought the saw. 5 of 6 blades were bi-metal 14/18TPI and one just plain M42, all blades have cracked and then snapped completely after 30-50cuts (last two blades made only about 15cuts) while all teeth were intact and as sharp as new, however, a non bi-metal blade indeed had lost some teeth afterall. The speed dial has never been set above 2.5 and feed has always been very gentle, so blades had never been even warm let alone hot. The only reason blades quit fast I can think of is that 14/18TPI blades don't like cutting thin (1.5-2mm) square pipe which has too thin walls for this tooth step. Maybe 24TPI blades will stay intact longer, at least I hope so.

Do you use a cutting solution? Thin steel can bind easily so taking it slow and making sure it's not pinching is a good idea. Cheers J

@@joshuadelisle A little bit of WD-40 does the job just fine. Greater amounts of oily fluids can easily lift rubber wheel bandage off the aluminium wheels, this is kind of dangerous situation for a blade because it donesn't simply slips off the wheels, detached bandage can stuck in the cage and block and overstress the blade itself.

@@deepdimdip I think you'll find WD 40 is what's wearing the blades out. For a long time I used it for cutting and eventually discovered it was not great at all and actual cutting fluid is 1000% better. Even plain water is better despite rusting.

@@joshuadelisle Oh, that's interesting. I can try other lubricants, but I can't understand how a particular lubricant is related to wearing blade's body. The problem is the teeth are not wearing out at all, it is the blade's body that's failing. First a small barely noticable crack appears between a couple of teeth, then it gradually grows a bit every time this piece of blade cuts materal and when this happens the entire saw body jumps up with increasing amplitude and finally after few revolutions the blade snaps and then it's over.

@@joshuadelisle p.s. The main reason I went for WD-40 is that it evaporates relatively quickly on its own and shouldn't theoretically create problems in the long run by accumulating on the wheels etc.
