    Need a manifold near the carb with two valves one for air and the other for the wood gas. Kinda like a one spout water faucet with a hot and cold valve then you can adjust the air fuel mixture when running!!

    Those rivnuts can really be a problem with some age. They get corrosion and trying to remove the bolt the whole thing turns. My jaguar has them. And if you're able to get them removed without destroying anything, you still have to come up with a way to reassemble everything.

    Thanks for more ideas to help pay for your laser. I believe the issue is with the viscosity of the paint being too "wet". There is a place for a wet brushing and a time for using a spray and this is the time for spraying.... AND, after removing the stencil letter tape, you really need to use a roller and *roll the remaining tape FLAT* to make sure the letter "edges" are in complete contact with the wood.... There are undoubtedly lifted tape edges after just ripping off the tape letters.... That is 98% of the problem right there....

    @@joshuadelisle very nice. can't wait for an update on that. it will make a big help in stability. i have been searching for you on stoichiometry ( or stoichiometric coefficient ), you can check some thing like producer gas, or coal gas, water gas, and all is pretty low compaired with propane. so expect to turn it a lot rich-er than on propane. second thing is pressure, these propane tanks have a 50 mbar regulator. so your conversion kit should work on a low pressure. if your engine is running hot because of lean burn, you can change the air fuel mixture on the conversion kit regulator pretty easy. also gas buffer would be helpfull like the blue bad you tried. that will also be a plus on stability. but be a ware of the first part of the gas that is comming out also contains water and oxygen. you don't want to store oxygen and a hydrogen etc mix to gether.... so waiting a bit before storing gas, would be a good idea. also heating the wood in the ground is not helpfull, the ground will take a lot of heat a way, and a lot when wet and raining. hope for a nice update in a while....

    Just dropping in with a tip. I was having some interference issues on my plasma table using my cheap Arduino card controller and laptop. A guy suggested I use a USB isolator. He said that's probably all it is. I haven't tried it yet but thought maybe you would like to know. Apparently a USB isolator prohibits interference making its way back to the computer.

    I have always measured heat in BTUs, not watts. At 1500 watts per 5000 BTUs the standard for electric heat, 8kwatts should put out 47 000 BTU. Looking at the other spects, I would say that the claims here are an exageration. Just the claims for heat being expressed in "watts" tells me this video is full of it. A non deceptive way to measure the output would be in BTUs per liter per hour. I don't see that here.

    I think if you have a larger coolng coil with a tar trap at the bottom. Also if you try a cotton cloth as an air filter I think that it would work like a filter on a cigarette. Also if you connect to the gasline going to the carburetor you may be able to adjust the air to gas mixture using the the built-in needle valves.

    Dont forget one of main reasons its more efficient is it's heating the air directly- electricity produced by a power station is very inefficient, sometimes as much as 50% along with distribution losses etc. Its one of my biggest bugbears with electric cars - great idea but in practise doesn't meet the claims made about CO2 reduction if fossil fuels are used to generate electricity compared to an internal combustion engine

    Another great video. Now I want to test a laser and I'm not even done fine tuning my plasma cutter. Which brings me to another question. When do you think they will offer hobby lasers for cutting 3mm mild steel? I would love a laser for sign making. Plasma is nice but messy and warpage is always an issue too. Great vid. You're no slouch when it comes to tackling the tough jobs like forging. Must have taken some time to do that part. Thanks.

    Thank you. Those lasers do exist but they are very pricey. Personally if you're sign making as a business I would just pay a profile cutting company with a 10kw laser to do it for me and pass the cost to the customer. Saves me using up valuable space for the machine and storing material and scrap. You'll see in my next video coming soon what I mean by that. Cheers J

    @@joshuadelisle Indeed time is money. I don't have a sign making business, but I like the idea of making them - which is why I built a plasma cutter after watching your video on how to do it - still working out some bugs but it's pretty awesome. My laptop goes buggy during cuts and the machine responds accordingly. Need a more sheilded setup and/or a tower computer in a case, working on it. Much less trouble running the print off an SD card on the board (rather than directly from Open Builds Control, but I highly reccomend them for the FREE Cam (online) and Control (downloadable) software. Easy to use and OBCam will convert any SVG into a tool path and g-code.) Bought some sheilded wires to run to the motors, grounded the machine as you did (grounded to the case but maybe a better spot?) I also had wrapped the torch lead in tinfoil which seemed to be the biggest help for preventing the HF antenna effect, but I'm going to make a better sheilded lead cover using faraday fabric. Peace!

    i see your pinned comment, but even assuming it is outputting 8kw of heating, you should also compare that a electric heater (reverse cycle/heat pump/whatever you call them in the UK). usually something outputting 8kw of heat, would use about 1.2-1.5kwh from your electric company. and yes, this diesel heater probably outputs the equivalent of 4-5kw of heat. so comparing that to an equivalent electric aircon system, would be equal to about 0.8-1.0kwh. so fairly close. but the electric powered unit should have less operating costs (dont forget the cost of oil and filters), less noise, and zero input needed from the user (fuel fills, filter cleaning and replacing, fuel pump replacements, oil). the diesel heaters are great as way to have heating in a caravan, or off-grid dwelling though.

    Very interesting video but for what you are trying to achieve you are going about it the wrong way. You are saying look at this lovely charcoal by-product but there should be no charcoal byproduct. You want to make gas, charcoal is what you need to make it. In a gasifier you cook the wood above your burning charcoal grate and the only way out for the smoke (and crap) from the wood should be by going through the 1000+Degree charcoal. The charcoal is so hungry for oxygen it strips some O’s off the CO2. Making CO syngas. And , if you get it right it can also strip the O from the H2O in the wood and give you some nice hydrogen as well. The high temperatures of the charcoal bed will crack the tars a fare bit and this will leave you able to spin out the carbon dust in the next step- a centrifuge. Cool the gas, clean the gas, big wood wool filter and away you go. There is a guy on KZread that has an open “drizzler” gasifier running a VW engine generator. Hopper fed, continuous run, so he doesn’t need to store the gas. My first build got so hot it melted the fibreglass insulation so I am rebuilding with ceramic blanket and using a crucible for the heath instead of a S’steel cullender. Looking forward to your next video.

    You are promoting tree mutilation, apalling and for people who doesnt know how to do it, and to heat a cold place instead moving away to warm climates where concentrated solar does the same without chopping forests Apalling

  • @joshuadelisle
    @joshuadelisle6 күн бұрын

    Coppicing doesn't harm the trees it actually increases the health and encourages bio diversity. An uncoppiced hazel for example will only live for 50 years or so whilst coppiced hazel has been recorded to live longer than a thousand years and was once an important industry that made the forests increase in abundance for local communities. The UK has some of the best fertility in the world because of its plentiful water and well protected ecosystems it just lacks consistent sunshine. Solar btw isn't easily recycled at the end of its life other than the glass and aluminum content and they actually use coal fired processing plants to create the silicone used in the pv cells ironically whilst a simple engine generator is 100% easily recycled back into new engines. Cheers J

    Keep up the hard work. In my HHO gas generation we split gas across a tank of water and electric plates. I'm wondering if your valve up top that you vent off and light from time to time is working as a gas splitter taking off the lighter gas and sending the heavy goods to the carb on your generatior.

Hence, worse than the cost of electricity (you mention 35p/kWh) which is a far versatile source of energy. (Sorry for my Bad english, I am french. But I can't resist clarifying such stories).

You could vent the gas from the beginning off until it turns flammable and then run it trough the filters and into the gasometer.

    I know I am late to the party - but it sounds like your fuel/gass ration is not right, its pushing too much gas and not enough air. If you could push access pressure back to the storage and send just the right amount of gas and fuel into the generator it would ran better and longer. Amazing progress!!!

    The one thing I have concluded from seeing quite a few of these builds is that each design has it's sweet spot. Dialing them in seems to be the challenge no matter the design. The one thing I have noticed is that moisture within the system decreases efficiency, and the seal in the gas chamber is key as well. When powering any gas engine the fuel/air mix and the way it's achieved seems to depend on the environment that the system is being used. In wet cold climates feeding the gas into the carburetor through a closed case seems to be the trick. I'm assuming it's because in a wet environment your forcing damp air into the carburetor. After seeing so many get so close I have wondered why they didn't just use the gas they are producing to power a steam engine. I imagine you could break down a generator and create a direct drive from the steam engine. The problem for me is this stuff is like that tune you can't get out of your head. Once I see videos like this a hundred ideas swim around in my brain soup.

  • @joshuadelisle
    @joshuadelisle8 күн бұрын

    Thank you. I'll be addressing all those points in the next part. There's a good reason why we moved from steam to combustion which started with gasification over 100 years ago, we moved from gasification to petroleum fuels because it has a higher calorific value, cheaper to produce at scale and the system is much easier to start, maintain and is compact. The battery car was also old tech but recently made a comeback because of modern materials, so my thoughts are to use modern materials for gasification and see if it will make a comeback. Cheers J
