I love the idea of the teacher being a doctor as well! I've been desperately trying to learn ways of trying to fix myself up or if anyone gets injured in the dojo I go to lately, mostly because no one's gonna help me if I get hurt. I need to get a hold of modern first aid manuals, try to learn traditional Chinese medicine, and find Motobu Choki's kumite book which had instructions on how to deal with injuries and how to resuscitate someone who got unconscious during sparring.

Prevent injuries in the first place. Because some injuries could last a lifetime and some are disabling.

If I undertand you correctly; controlled sparing as you do, allows students to understand angles of attack, defence, the required amount of force to use, distance etc. Trained in Southern CMA in my youth, we had a similar approach.

I like Pigua too, but I didn't learn it. My basics tutorial has arm rotations, etc. will help with Pigua too.

Basically Mengcun, but also classical Li Dazhong lineage. I learned Baji as an 8-year-old from my master in Tianjin.
